Just discovered your channel and subscribed thanks to the historical fiction videos. Saved them to my playlist to jot down all your references and the promised authors and themes. Saludos desde Puerto Rico.
I loved "I, Cleopatra." Read it as a teenager and looked for it in vain every now and then--up through my 40"s! Just got it on Kindle. Hooray. Have you read Nemesis, by Peter Evans, about Ari Onasis, Jackie O, Maria Callas? So good.
That was interesting and a lot of fun! Ovid and God is an Englishman sounds like something I want to read as soon as possible, thank you for the recommendation!
Great recommendations! I actually picked up a copy of God is an Englishman just a few weeks ago for 50¢! I wasn't sure about it when I purchased it but you've made me excited to get to it! Thanks!
I just discovered your channel. I am going to look for the books you recommend at the library and through ILL. I am a huge fan of historical fiction. The Physician is one of my all time favs. Thanks for the great recommendations.
Lovely recommendations. I have a first printing of Renault's The King Must Die on my shelf, but am too scared to read it due to its condition. You also sold me on Delderfield with 'sweeping family saga' as those tend to be my favorite reads. Thanks for the great video.
Oh, Steve, you mentioned Robert Graves's "I, Claudius". It was such a wonderful book and the ending...I was laughing out loud at Claudius's priorities. Have you read "Wife to Mr Milotn"? I picked it up at used bookstore recently solely on the fact that I loved "I, Claudius", but I haven't had the chance to read it yet.
Late to yet another party... An Arthurian video? When? Where? Delderfield’s historicals are available on kindle. Thank heavens: my paperbacks were in sad shape.
I found Delderfield at Book Depository and wow the covers they did for the last reprint are a bit scary. Would never have looked at them without your recommendation. Ebook might be the way if they are available.
+kiwiflowa Oh, don't get me STARTED on that last horrendous reprint run! I have no idea why they couldn't simply use the gorgeous, inviting painted covers of the old paperbacks - surely after all this time there wouldn't have been any problem with copyrights ...but NO! Instead we got those horrible, boring new covers ...
The Physician is about the boy who goes from England to Persia to learn medicine from the famous physician of that time called "Avicenna". It's not about arabic world. Instead, It's about the Middle ages in England and Persia.
Lord! I love vintage historical novels! Thank you!
Nice finds! Nothing better than old books. Love em!

Julian and Burr are my favorite Gore Vidal novels

Some of these books are available from Amazon in print or e-format. I bought I, Cleopatra for my kindle at a low price.
I just went to restaurant with such a great pretentious menu and had the "Kitty Adair" grouper.....oh well...
