- Ya know, it's interesting to revisit my videos years after I've made them...and to read the comments from those who have stopped by to view them. It's like visiting little islands in space and time. There is my original intent and vision...and then the atmosphere that is created by the people who visit.
This video in particular is precious to me. It was made at a dark time in my life. Not dark as in sad, hopeless, or haunted...dark because (I will spare us all the details) I was on my way to being blind.
So...that's what I was drawing on when I made this video.
Not long after, by no effort of my own, I ended up in the office of a brilliant surgeon who was able to give me more years with my eyes. Some called it luck. Not me. It was an act of grace. It was a saving grace. It was my saving grace at the time. And that surgeon? Well...he...he was different...I don't know where he is now. There are days when I wonder if he was ever 'really' 'here'. But he was...at least for a minute or two.
Winter's people watching
As I sail from season's four
To join some crazy ladies
In a game upon the shore
None of them with broken wings
But still refuse to fly
So with sweetness on my lips
I smile a last goodbye
And now I spend my life
On the velvet side of hell
Aimlessly here searching
For what I cannot tell
The quietness is terrible
It's more than I can stand
But thousands now stand cheering
As my blood flows in the sand
Spoken:
You're not the child
You thought you were
You wake up in the night
And know you're blind
And yet they keep on pushing
Trying the insides of your mind
Forever, forever arresting to control
Until the emptiness of heaven
Welcomes your weary soul
Rise up with the new dawn's early morning
Feel the sunshine warm upon your face
Tomorrow's come a long, long way to help you
Yes, it's your saving grace
Every day, every way
Tomorrow, it's your saving grace
Well, now got no time to worry
Cause I've got no time to hurry
Baby, it's your saving grace
Now don't you lay those blames on me
Don't you play those games on me
Cause baby it's your saving grace
You got to need a little lovin'
I was born in 53. Steves early pre-pop does not get talked about a whole lot. This song is a standout.
Sailor was a mystical musical ride. Ahhh those were the days. Kudos
We're close to the same age and I couldn't agree more.
This album was released in November 1969 and I keep coming back to it. Specifically this song.
Great track!!!!
Love this song!
"Tomorrow's come a long long way to help you." That lyric makes this forever one of my favorite "gospel songs." Thank you for this magnificent video! Much love to one who loves the best period of the Steve Miller Band.
Aww, thanks John. The truly great ones really are like prayers aren't they?
Song blares wild in my pickup along Highway 54 across Kansas to Wichita.
I'm imagining it right now!
I wish they would remaster, remix, re-release all these old priceless gems from Stevie!
forty years of "hell yeah",
talk about a song with spirit
Tomorrow's come a long long way to help you...
Indeed
My absolute favorite Steve Miller song!
yep! Draw Sword! Fox! Rock's Czar! "Tomorrow's come a long long way to help you." Cottage of The Crone! Nice Work! Sadly Mistaken! We FIGHT! QX Undercover! 4:05 Yea That There Was This Worldwide Cataclysmic Mudflood 1810-12circa..and We've Got The Many Pillared Structures Ta Prove It! Hello mikerobbins!
Outstanding imagery to compliment an old favorite song. Thanks, Julia
The most glorious images, Deb! Where do you find them? I forget, sometimes, about how wonderful Steve Miller Band was then. Such a treat, this one...
I adored this period of the Steve Miller Band. I truly just luck out on images, I find one then the rest find me...it's a dance of sorts :-)
***** I agree, the imagery is superb, as is the song, with Tim Davis handling the lead vocal, not Steve.
Ahhh, my favorite Steve Miller song from the "old" band (pre-"The Joker" era). Wonderful imagery to go with it, too, Deb. I loved the Willy Wonka/childhood theme, and the "wolf in sheep's 'clothing'"...I get it (or I think I do) LOL!
Thanks for a great video to go with a beloved song.
You're so welcome. Ya know...I still have a bottle of Heaven Scent...the large round one...with the angel on the front.
Steve. All the pre-Joker music was SUBLIME.
Abracadabra!
My fav from SMB
Outstanding video for a beautiful song, well done Cottage of the Crone!
BIRISHPM What a nice thing to say. Thank You!

I totally forgot this song!
Don't you love it when that happens!
I can't find a live version of this....
Real nice spiritually, to bad it cant be on a regular play list again, or known of on any of the listening three ring circus' these days.
I hear ya...don't get me started on contemporary music...hell, don't get me started on contemporary anything
Interesting to read this song means lots to other people too. Was tough living it when rocking down angels woke me up to being Michael (Number 9 too or 11.) and on what thought it said, "been 1000's mile with cheering as blood boils in the sand."
Tomorrow's come a long, long way to help you
Yes, it's your saving grace
Welcome home
@@CottageOfTheCrone Dank jewel. It's this generation saving grace that will take to wake "church" up.
@@MichaelDewey Which generation? We are all children. We are all ancient.

@@CottageOfTheCrone Yes, in travels driven on,,, one remember was Hastings I-owe-wa?, with not stop light and a bar next door to chicken coop turned in hangout, after month there man says, "you look like long haired preacher." "We all children children of dog," with bartender agreeing. Had hit town with a descent ride than Learch the Leach, never to have stroke this 62 year old has now,,, or than. That was 1995 before SSDI IBEW days were not allowed to drive sober too. With another barmaid almost dated back than Caroline,,, and Learch just left for last time with me. He couldn't even pay 35 bucks a year for private San Jose Leoburg pool Club with 100 ball 14.1 runners. He just showed up at Abbey Road condo, down st from cool Club 40's tough pool bar,,, but chick threw me out for.....Miller sang it all. A couple Hurricane carters too.
What was I starting to say?
Dank Jewel for video. Only word of Dutch learned in 7 years in Antwerpen playing 3-cushion billiards with fine Flemish Cafe folks, until my habits given Marie, made me a widowrer May 5-2017. "They are getting where story of this and new way space cowboy stuff is at." Kid's have great respect for my game.
Great video. Too bad the music is washed out. Oh and it's.. Your saving grace.
Probably my favorite song of his. "Kow Kow Calculator" was not a bad song either. I wasn't to big a fan of his top 40 hits of the 70s except for maybe "jet airliner".
Can you tell me what the still pic at 4:12 is from?
It is from the movie "Big Fish".

I love this comment so much
