Hi Wayne! Thank you for posting this, I came back to this video after one of my worst showings last week, and felt inspired to try again with a better and humbler attitude. I went back out last night excited to be there and make some saves. I performed much better, and I have your positive attitude to thank. I know you're not in the youtube or goalie game anymore, but this video helped me a ton. Thank you!!
Thanks for your Comment! Sorry to hear that you're going through a rough patch! Hopefully this video helps! Sometimes, even a bad day on the ice is a better than a day with no ice!
This is an excellent topic, especially for younger goalies. We are all our own worst critic when it comes to our performance. Wayne is right about a hype video, pregame music list, a routine or anything consistent. Watch NHL goalies after they let in a goal. At this point in their career, they have literally let in thousands of goals, and they reset after each one. Some skate the goal line, some just drink some water, whether they are thirsty or not, some will tap the post in a very specific way. It’s unique to them, but it’s how they mentally reset. It is literally the hardest part about being a goalie, because we will constantly fail, and always bounce back. Pro beer league tip for anyone reading. Because we are the mentally toughest people on the ice, we can get in the heads of our opponents and mess their game up, but they can’t get into ours. We can also be key in building our team up, so shout out your guys whenever possible.
