Apple needs to add the ability to force hold the iPad Battery Charge Level at 80% so when it is being used in the desktop mode that Stage Manager allows in an all-day setting, the battery won’t get worn from being charged chuck-full all the time.
Agreed. To get around this current limitation, I use a Homekit smart plug and an automation that prevents the iPad from charging above 80% and below 25%.
This is one of the very few videos that I have come across that actually point out SOME of the key areas where iPadOS falls short as a desktop replacement setup. We feel we made a mistake by listening to some of the other youtubers (who seem to only highlight and speak about the *cool* features in the new iPadOS that allows them to use it instead of a regular desktop/laptop WITHOUT pointing out any real world limitations) and ended up purchasing 2 11" iPad Pros, 1 12.9" iPad Pro (all M1), thunderbolt docks etc. thinking that our high school kids could use that as their primary compute devices. Granted that the flexibility is neat when they can be working on the tablet on their desk and then simply disconnect the thunderbolt cable and take the tablet in bed and continue working / sketching (w/ pencil) etc. However, the limitations and just how slow Apple (and App developers) have been in maturing iPadOS and applications are getting painfully aware the more we use. For instance, my daughter wanted to use the Zoom App to join an study group over the weekend and even though she could install and run the Zoom App on the external monitor, she was unable to use her logitech C920 camera and we only got confirmation of that limitation after watching this video. In fact, the Zoom app started using the built-in camera in Center stage mode and any of the notification pop-ups could not be dismissed via the mouse. I had to "move" the App back to the tablet screen and then dismiss it by touch-only. Needless to say, quite a bit of panic and frustration and she switched back to using the "family" Chromebook which (also has touch screen when needed) and costs far less than the iPad at around $300. Thank you for the relatively unbiased video pointing out the limitations and confirming that iPad is not yet quite ready to be used as a primary (and only) compute device. 👍
you can format flashdrives in ipados 17 however you cant really choose file format. Also, external display only max out at 60hz regardless of resolution which is a bummer given i used a gaming monitor which max out at 144hz. things i which ipados 18 would improve upon: 1. allow higher refreshrate for external monitor 2. ability to safely removed drives 3. support for other file formats (read and write) 4. ability to switch off ipad screen when connected to external display 5. ability to customized mouse keys without assistive touch 6. control for battery charging limits 7. better control for audio output and option to used ipad built in speaker when connected to an external display
I used a 12.9 only for a few years. A month ago I downsized to a M! Air 5 and love it. It is so portable and when I need a larger screen I can use an external monitor. No regrets at all. I had been using the 12.9 magic keyboard fir years as well. For the air I decided to try the logitech combo touch and that is amazing as well.
it was perfect but the annoying thing is theres still no unFullscreen option of an app that is on Fullscreen mode when using it on a monitor display and you have to hover your mouse right below or edge of the app then drag and unFullscreen the App, unless they add it in the next beta for an unFullscreen option on the 3 dot middle above
It's strange that the systemwide shortcuts (either Globe key + F or CTRL + CMD + F) do not work to exit fullscreen. but they do work to enter into full screen mode. CMD+M is a workaround but not ideal.
Sadly I didn’t understand most of this. Could you speak slower. I do love your videos but you do speak so fast it’s hard to catch alot of what you’re explaining.

Thanks!
Any idea whether an external camera is finally working flawlessly with Zoom and other conferencing apps?
I think we'll see this very shortly after it is released next month.

did you manage to get Studio Display camera to work with the ipad?
iTab?
5:09 link for that fire lamp thing on the left?
Will a iPad Air provide 120hz when connected with a 120hz monitor?
No, the display should run in compatibility mode bringing down the refresh rate to 60Hz.
@@ItsCaputo so if we connect a 120hz monitor with a iPad Pro which comes with Pro motion then it’ll work on 120hz
