    I hope everyone is enjoying the tour video!
    I should have done this long ago, but if you want to support the channel you can now ‘buy me a coffee’ I even set up a membership there if you are an absolute mega legend and want to help me out even more!

    I love that most people in Europe will show up for the support act; almost no one does here in Australia and it’s so frustrating. I’ve seen some incredible opening acts (Dust and Moaning Lisa come to mind) with half filled venues, but when the headliner starts suddenly it’s shoulder to shoulder packed. Massive shame.

    • @thesethingsmakenoises
      @thesethingsmakenoises  8 месяцев назад

      Ahh no way? It might also be due to the fans being older too?

      I’ve always loved getting in to see the support. Found October Drift by doing that and many other great bands.

    Great video. Sounds like an absolute blast. You are right about being there to sell merch. It’s always nice as a supporter to be able to say thank you in person to the band members over the merch stall. Without fail in my experience artists appreciate not just the merch buying but also thanks in person for the gig and music.

    We just recently played our first proper venue and what you're saying is so true. We had our own dressing room, fridge filled with beer and other non alcoholic drinks. The food was amazing AND healthy. So yeah, that was an unreal experience for us as a tiny little local band :)

      Thanks so much, there was points in the 10 hr drives I was a little less enthusiastic haha! But thanks so much. We should be out next year.

    Man I hope my band gets big enough to tour and do huge venues. Will keep these tips in mind for sure, they’re pretty helpful even for a not touring band. Since we’re so small the catering we got at a venue was a mansion that had two slices of American cheese for our bassist lmao.

  • @mrdumbass3064
    @mrdumbass3064 8 месяцев назад +1

    Completely right about America our closest venues are 45 minutes away an they are all fairly small biggest one that’s close is like an hour or two

    This is a brilliant watch. I’ve followed all the tour updates and now to see it all brought together and with your commentary Dan is superb. Glad you didn’t have any problems with customs as you hear about other bands unloading all the gear and even having Merch confiscated. And you are right re talking to fans at the end and being there in person to sell your Merch. It makes a big difference. Thanks for all of this 👍🏻

    Hmm… I only watch your shorts and didn’t know you had a band. lol. I’m going to check you guys out in a bit. Assuming you’re on Spotify.
    These types of videos kind of made me realize I don’t actually want to be in a touring band. I just want to do local/regional gigs and do instagram stuff. Playing music is fun.
    Also, “you’ll be living in a van down by the river” lol. Idk if you’ll get that reference

    Def makes me far more likely to want to stay engaged with a band if they've been around chatting/selling their own merch after a show

    Sounds like you had a great time on the road! I totally agree with choice of food. Junk food wears you down so quickly and the bloating is by far worse than when you're getting your nutrition from healthier food sources. It's a bit crazy with the bureaucracy surrounding going abroad; the need to list everything you're bringing in minute detail. I talked to a friend of mine who is a booker here in Denmark and he said that it made going to the UK so much extra work. Cool you got to go, though. And thanks for sharing the experiences with us! :D

    • @thesethingsmakenoises
      @thesethingsmakenoises  8 месяцев назад

      Yeah 100%! Back home when we’re on tour I always find it hard to avoid the junk food as it’s often the closest choice to the venue and normally weirdly cheaper too!
      Yeah, I hope over time it gets easier!

    It takes a lot of effort to get your music out.
    Nowadays touring is supporting the music/album, while long long time ago it was the very opposite.
    On the road in particular you need a certain balance between sleep, food and logistics 😢
    Thanks for sharing.

    Most Americans don't understand that entire European countries are the same size as a U.S. state. The U.S. market and European markets for music are also totally different; many bands that are big in one are unknown in the other, and vice versa.American bands with small followings in their own country can do very well playing in Asia or Europe.
    A couple of hours one way is one thing, but I rather dislike spending entire days travelling long distances.
