Pretty spot on review! Removing the parking sensors is plain stupid although I do not miss the pinball sounds while going through a drive thru. Those get super annoying as the sensors were always way too sensitive on my Model 3. They also seemed to be part of the problem with phantom braking when I got it. Like a sensor would think something was there when it wasn’t.
You forgot to mention heated windshield wipers! These should be standard on ALL cars simply as a safety feature.
The low rumble hurts my ears. I find it beyond annoying and something Tesla can absolutely find and fix.
Other than that, this car is so much better than my 2019 Model 3 and I’m glad with the switch.

Totally agree with how auto-pilot accelerates so fast and waits until the very last second to brake in stop-and-go traffic. I was so scared that the car would not stop on time, so I ended up tapping on the brake by myself and thus disabled auto-pilot. I wish the car would slow down and stop more gradually.

I was one of the suckers who bought the model Y in December. Leaving that debacle aside, it's incredulous why Musk would remove the proximity sensors, particularly on the front where there isn't a camera - a week after I bought the car I allowed my friend to drive the vehicle to a movie - she drove into a multistory and while parking inched closer to the wall - I realized, as a Toyota driver, she was waiting to hear a PS alarm. I shouted but too late, she hit the wall and scratched the front. It is beyond stupid to remove these sensors, and I fail to see how they can be reinstated over the air sometime in the future as the feature requires hardware. Even at the rear, sensors should be installed. I'm shocked, it appears to be what we call in the UK, 'A Brain Fart.' A $67,000 car without sensors - madness!

Also maybe wait to congratulate Tesla for removing the sensors until AFTER they’ve added the substitute. Right now these cars have no parking aids. No vision sensors nor USS. Common sense would dictate if you’re going to remove the sensors, do it after you have your replacement feature live. Right now it’s been 4 months that there’s nothing at all. Anybody would take a semi-working sensor over no sensor whatsoever. Smart Summon, Summon, and Autopark literally do not even work right now on these current vehicles because there is no replacement feature. There is nothing at all to congratulate Tesla on for doing this prior to going live on whatever the substitute would be.

I did Tesla model Y test driving in last two weeks. As a 10 year owner of BMW xDrive30i, I was excited to do the test drive and I wanted to buy one. The first test drive is on MYL with 20” wheels, using Chill mode, and braking mode as “Roll”. I felt a little bit dizzy (from bumpy suspension?) after test driving. The road noise (from other car and wind) was not pleasant. The regeneration braking did not make it smooth. My wife also felt uncomfortable. She said her head felt some uneasy pressure from car vibration and bumpy motion. Then I tested Mode 3 also, it felt much better. I thought maybe I was not familiar with driving MY initially or 19” wheels will make it better. So I called Tesla to find a location to test MYL with 19” wheels. This time it was better, with all above feelings to lesser degree. I also tested MYP with 20” wheels. It felt better than MYL, still not to the degree that I would call it good driving experience. One week later I tested driving MYL with 20” wheels again, with my wife. By then I was relatively familiar with MY and did not make much jerky motions. Both of us felt it was better than the first time, but still a little bit unpleasant. We kind of concluded that it came from the car not all from my driving since when I was driving on the high way, there was not much handling I need to do. After test driving we immediately drove our own 2008 Lexus IS350, and it felt better than MY. We were totally surprised with our experience, considering so many glorious reviews and so many people buy it as family car. Now we are planning test drive other SUVs.

I got an Austin build Model Y in August 2022. Immediately took a 1400 mile road trip with no issues whatever. Car was packed with luggage and I did not notice the rumble. When I emptied the car, not only did I hear a rumble, but also a boominess in the cabin that was very uncomfortable. I tried several remedies that were offered on the Tesla Owners Club, and some of my own, with little impact. Long story short - insert a lubricated 5/16" OD PVC tubing into the whole length of the rear hatch gasket to stiffen it up. Investment - about $20. Boominess totally gone. Rumble still noticeable on some road surfaces, but not too bad and easily drowned out by music at normal listening levels. 10,000 miles on the car now and loving it.

Great summary Ryan, thanks! I have found the same issue with using AP on congested roads. This illustrates one of the obstacles to implementing a fully autonomous vehicles IMO. These systems are adaptive but not predictive. You and I can look at our environment and what’s happening. Our minds can also predict what will happen in the future based on the scene in front of us and our human intuition of how other humans will behave (mind reading). AP systems can only respond to the present situation in the moment. So you will accelerate slowly knowing that the car in front is only able to move a short distance, whereas the AP system will plant the gas pedal and then need to brake hard. FSD zealots vastly underestimate the complexity of driving a car and the power of the human mind to predict future events. Understandable, since as humans we find driving to be a “mindless” activity. We can do it, whilst listening to music or holding a conversation with our passengers. Clever aren’t we? 😉

Automotive sensors have to be able to detect near and distant. The vehicle needs the sensors in front, in the rear and on each side. That is just to sense what is around you. The technology has to be improved upon. Sensors do not enable a vehicle to drive alone. They can assist the driver to protect the driver. There are many existing technologies that can work together to help the safety of driver and passengers. With time, these technologies can continue to improve. For a very good reason, I don't understand camera vision. I find it impossible for someone to hook up a camera to a computer and allow that computer to see. Human beings can see and use our judgement. If someone tells me that they can make a car stay in the same lane or change lanes, I also believe that is impossible. Technology is great but it has it's limitations. You can only do so much. If you agree or disagree I understand.

@@sidoliveira3246 Elon's reason was apparently because "a human can do it, so then so can a computer". I find this dumb to say the least? Make a computer only be able to only see like a human and.. it will drive like a human. Humans that cause accidents roughly 800 times per day. And you're right by saying a computer can only do so much. The AI can hardly tell what a car's brake lights mean, much less understand it quickly and be able to react to it. I've heard rumors Tesla may be switching back to radar, hopefully for the best.

    • @sidoliveira3246
      @sidoliveira3246 Год назад

@@robblly8112 I understand that Elon and his team are trying to do something that will help mankind. They want to develop a system that will protect human beings when they are traveling in a vehicle. When I think about AI it means artificial intelligence. Someone told me that the term artificial intelligence was something that people created during the birth of the computer age. People thought that eventually computers would be able to think like human beings. Those people did not have a technical background. Today's computers are very impressive. Mini computers and supercomputers and everything in between. In my opinion sensors are key. I believe with time that GPS technology will improve and become helpful. I am familiar with radar but I think about the air when I think of that technology. I like cameras and believe that they can assist you see on a monitor what is in front, side, and back of you. Good computer systems can be installed in vehicles to allow all electronic devices to help the driver drive and navigate the vehicle. Using every single technology that exists in order to protect people is the goal.

Another excellent video. Thanks for your time and effort, greatly appreciated! I've got two issues that are bugging me. Maybe you've got some insights.
    1) When the cameras are recording an "incident" the doors won't open. When I get my phone out and get ready to open the app, the doors unlock. It knows my phone, why doesn't it let me in my car. I live near Seattle, when it's raining and I've got a couple of grocery bags in my arms, it's really annoying to have to fish out my phone.
    2) The frunk is great, but it's hard plastic. I'm a photographer and it would be great to be able to put stuff in it. But if I take a hard turn, my gear might crash into the hard plastic and be damaged (yes, I can only put well protected camera bags into frunk, but that almost defeats the purpose). I've spent a few hours looking for solutions. There are lots of cushy bottoms for the frunk, but I've only found one that has soft sides. The trunk isn't padded, but had "carpet" on the sides. Thanks for listening.

Tesla model Y long range 2023 owner here. I very much like the technology and the energy savings due to the fact that I produce an abundance of extra solar on my roof daily. I am a tech guy so this type of technology with efficiency is important to me. There are a couple of things that I find just unacceptable. The first being the fact that the headrest does not adjust. I find myself constantly hitting the back of my head on the headrest. Next is the ride quality which it best sucks, the car on rough or uneven roads porpoises front to back making the headrest issue even worse. I feel like i am in a go cart or a golf cart with no suspension. I also own a Ford Explorer and a Subaru outback both rides are exponentially superior. Next would be the lack of back up sensors and curb sensors to me this is basics when it comes to what is being called a luxury car. As you covered the phantom braking is something that needs to be addressed. Ambient lighting at night would also increase aesthetic value. As far as build quality goes my model Y was made in Austin. This is a new factory. There are many fit issues that need to be fixed. This is also unacceptable. The reliance on plastic on many of the finishes add to a cheap looking product.

WARNING on the lack of a functioning back up camera on all 2023 Model Ys. How could they not release software at the same time that they change the location of the sensors? !
I just finished putting 8,000 miles in two months on 2022 Model Y’s, and probably went to 75 T superchargers. The precision of the back up camera as well as the thoughtful laying out of curbs to prevent backing into anything was what I expected when I test drove the 2023Y performance. When I backed the vehicle back into a parking space which didn’t have any curb and no definition of three dimensional depth, I was fully expecting the screen to show distance which it did not. The result was I hit the wall at 1 mile an hour. Now Tesla wants $2400 to fix the damages. Trusting Tesla will come to his senses, and graciously write off the damages, while they scramble to rectify this potentially dangerous (and expensive) miscue.

I just bought a Model Y--the cheapest version. I'm not so sure about the comments comparing it to a luxury car. The car next to it in the garage is a Lexus 460. That's a luxury SUV. However, i cannot buy a 2023 GX460 for close to the price of the Tesla. When I was cross shopping, a RAV 4 Prime (+ dealer markup) cost more than the MY I purchased--way more if you take into account the $7500 rebate. The median cost for a Ford (Ford!) is now over $50,000. An AWD Ionic/EV6 should be competitive with a Model Y but when I shopped them the Korean cars were way more expensive. Also a comment about the late braking: Do you have the driver preferences set for "sport" or "chill"? I'm guessing the behaviour is partly due to you telling the car to drive aggressively.

It's definitely a fun car to drive. A one hour test drive was not enough to get the hang of all the systems but I didn't expect it to be. The rear visibility is terrible and I do hope there's some kind of camera replacement for the ultrasonic sensor delete. I loved the white interior but have opted for black due to cleanliness concerns. Build quality seemed okay but I would have hoped for something better at that price range. Here are a few basic questions not covered in a love fest review:
Is it true Tesla has you sign a waiver at purchase that you will not sue them in open court?
How much more costly is the auto insurance and does the giga press part approach for very large parts raise or lower the repair cost?
What are the battery health and performance issues in a place with very high summer temps like Phoenix?
Is the vehicle basically a throw away model after 8 years because of the battery? (Long life Toyota owners want to know.)

We got our MYP in Mar 2022 and already put 18k miles on it. I agree with your comments about the acceleration and braking on autopilot when in traffic. Autopilot works so nicely otherwise and I use it as often as is practical, but my wife asks me to turn it off when she's in the passenger seat while we're in traffic because it makes her car sick with how quickly it accelerates and brakes. I wish they added configuration options for this, much like you can set autopilot following distance.
Definitely agree that the frunk should be powered, but we're used to it being manual at this point.

Although there are many compelling reasons to own a Telsa Model Y, I certainly don't think luxury is one of those reasons. I recently pruchase a Grand Cherokee 4xe Summit Reserve. Two reasons, electrification and comfort. When you look at this vehicle, there is no question that luxury was considered in the design and features. I stand firm that the Model Y and 3 are very utility based designs. Low cost of ownership and reliability would be great reasons to own the Model Y.

    1. Lights on handles: new passengers in the dark have no clue how to open the doors, on dark paint job, handle invisible!
    2. Autowipe sensor is disgraceful. it seems bipolar. Very slow when its pouring and going mad fast when there is no rain. In winter when using cruise control, the autowipe is compulsory on and is plain unsafe. Scenario- Winter - salt smear on screen. wash windscreen with quick screenwash, 2 -3 wipes should be enough, but auto goes for 10-20 - doing nothing but smudge more salt spray all over the screen. have no choice but to turn off cruise control and turn off auto wipe.
    3. Screen Font size: Many of us need reading glasses that are not suitable for driving (seeing into the distance) Easily solved by being able to increase the size of the font slightly on the screen, so message & info are clearly legible.

I agree with how the auto-pilot accelerates too fast at times and waits too long to brake in stop-and-go traffic. I took control a bunch of times. I find the car in the previous update stayed in the lane better, now if is either Right or Left and then back to the middle. Not by much, but usually just the opposite of what I would do. Left turns to seem better than right. Also, a little scary when it stops and then thinks it should turn in front of oncoming traffic (left turn). I find that EAP on the highway is better than FSD, it stays in the HOV lane and changes lanes quicker when I signal. FSD is still cool, but glad I didn't buy and can rent it by the month, think Feb is my last month for a while. 360 view would be great. Agree he shouldn't have killed USS until Vision worked. Phantom Braking isn't too bad, just weird that sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't in the same place. Does anyone else with FSD notice that it changes lanes in the intersection, how could they miss that is illegal? Although I can get items from my phone, XM, etc. I would like to see the app store. I like how quiet the car is and I find the ride smooth. The touch screen is quick and works great. So far the AC works well, but we are not at S FL summer yet. I agree cooling seating would be nice. I find the front dual pane windows great and the back single pane sound like could break when you close the doors. Sentry mode is great just in case. Lots of room in the car.
