You are absolutely correct. I don't think these problems are accidental either. Every way in which an individual, family and community can be harmed is being harmed systematically and relentlessly.

Emergent phenomena. Look at the fall of Rome and we're experiencing much the same thing. We've had it too good for too long and we've voted ourselves into this mess by demanding socialist policies, and turning people like Enoch into pariahs.

I am sixty, and even though life is very hard I sure am grateful that I am NOT in my thirties or younger. I don't think I'd survive all the trials and tribulations they are faced with all the time. My life is private. I can walk away from social media and my cell phone. No, thanks!

Thank you so much for making this. Me and my partner are in our 20s and we constantly talk about this stuff, especially the growing feeling that things are getting worse or that “something” must happen to change things. We don’t see a future here. To hear you talk about the exact same things was really affirming. Also this style of commentary video really suits you. Please do more because you sound very switched on. ❤️

Thanks! I have some very clear examples of things getting worse in my mind from my own life. Twice I have moved off boats and onto a normal private rental on dry land over the last decade, and now I know for a fact that it would be far more expensive to do so, compared to the wage increases over the years, plus the amount of suitable properties available to rent have dwindled into the 0-5 region on right move on more than one occasion, I don’t have a direct comparison for that number but I know it used to a genuine choice of places! I certainly didn’t have to attend an open day with dozens of other viewers for a single place in a small market town either!

Hey SOI, loving the photos lately (I honestly feel you capture the ideal canal life (that being beautiful solitude) better than anybody). My 2 cents: yes, it seems everything is getting worse - but every generation has probably felt that way! (we're of similar age). I believe this just means we need to take agency more than ever in our lives, and focus on what we believe is important and meaningful, and disregard the nonsense, noise, hustle/bustle, and cheap thrills (never mind the bollocks? I'm from North America). We're getting on, after all, and we're maturing, even though we've got a good grip on our inner child - and that's good! Perspective is reality and this is our life! It's ours to live as we like, in person, in real time, doing what we love, with those we love.

A younger brother left at 16 and has set up house with his long-term girlfriend. The council in my area ripped out the food plants i put into a neglected community planter, at the cost of 25£ put in annuals, ripped out whatever plants people had put in themselves over the decade. And paid a contractor to do the work, at a cost of thousands. Waste of money

Yes, I’m not sure if you have seen the video about when my other half fainted and fractured her eye socket etc… but we had just such an occasion, at first she couldn’t even sit up while remaining conscious, and couldn’t move an inch on her own because of neck pain, so I phoned an ambulance but in the two hours that passed she recovered enough to get her about 60 feet way to the car instead. If she hadn’t have recovered who knows how long it would have been. Somebody was waiting 7 hours in a local supernarket, on the floor covered in blankets. Very sad times.

That said, I cut it off shortly before the end because it forced me to question how I, part of the older generation, could have done something to stop the downhill trundle from supporting the common good into the welter of solipsism, self-promotion, and feigned outrage which teems in the world. It doesn’t need to be this way.

I agree with everything you said. Me and my father was having the same conversation today
There was a reason the baby boomers had loads of kids and no one is having kids today
In the 60s 70s80s housing was affordable with one income and your wife would run the house and look after the kids
The minute it started taking two wages to run the house and your wife had to go to work to who was going to have the kids ?
And now with 0 hours contracts and no real stable work it’s even harder.
My 50 year old friend is renting a flat and the landlord wanted 3 months rent as a deposit and five years checkable work history.

From Florida. You have hit the nail on the head. I'll give you an example of apartment (flat) rental management and how I believe it works to maximize profit. Some say it is just a matter of supply and demand. I say it's collusion nearing exploitation. It seems that complexes here in my area are all connected on the network to monitor "inventory" and as the less apartments become available, the higher the rental prices. "Equity" companies. Even large areas now have homes built just for rental.
I am in my early 80s, I don't know how young people are going to make it. It's going to get worse, yes? Yes. The silver lining was that beautiful video.

I agree with you Dan. Right now I don't see a future for Britain, but I feel that I should stay and try and change that, rather than emigrating to a country that may be a decade or two behind that same curve. This is a global problem that we can't keep running away from. I'm torn between the easy and the hard option.

Every time I come ashore, I see it: things have changed; stuff has happened. Sometimes it is obvious; sometimes subtle. For a reality check, I avoid cities, villages. For me. they are illusions-Man's attempt to improve a kind of life. A walk in the woods, a stroll at the beach, time at sea all give perspective on what is true and that which is not real. It can take courage to sort it all out. Good luck!

I wonder how it was that we (as a country) used to be able to afford free dentists, free university (plus grant!), ease of seeing Dr / hospital, cheap housing, affordable utilities yet nowadays it has all gone and we are kept occupied by small colourful boxes that make a noise - glass beads for the natives. Real life being swapped for virtual.

I feel like we've got so much more now than 20 years ago. More stuff, more comfort, more entertainment. But at the same time seem to be increasingly lacking the essentials. I feel like it's not a matter of the amount of stuff overall, but a matter of distribution and priorities. And sometimes a lack of collective willingness to make trade-offs and invest at the right places.

I agree, and while it's been decades in the making, it's all started to come to a head over the last 5 years or so. I also was someone who embraced and loved technology and felt that it had a big part to play in enhancing lives, even work in the industry but it's now going to far. AI and automation is finding it's way into areas that it has no business being in and is becoming increasingly intrusive, controlling and taking over in a bad way.

Ive been saying this for a few years and finally those around me have begun to realise it too. I was just ahead of the curve. Frankly, as a society, weve had it - collectively if not individually - too good, for too long. We're weak, and that's why we've voted for Demagogues. Our currency is being debased at an enormous rate, £90,000,000,000 a year minimum, in national debt service, and the solition to those in power, is to support mass import of people who will supposedly help alleviate this kssue, but who instead are a nrt financial burden and often cause societal upheval with sectarian politics, due to cultural values that are a world apart from ours. I don't hate, I'm just concerned, and i get accused of all sorts of heinous things for raising those concerns.
The people levelling those accusations are the ones angry at me shouting "iceberg ahead!" Because it interrupts their peace and quiet...
I'm preparing a life oat for my family and I'll continue shouting iceberg until the impact is imminent...at which point I'll row away and pray for those onboard. 🙏😢

One one hand I can understand you not wanting to have bitter political arguments in the comments.
But for me personally, you can't ask the question of why this country has come to feel so crappy and so negative (which it clearly has over the last 15 years), without looking at what was done by the people who were in charge.
How can we clearly discuss why people feel negative, whilst ignoring the fact that over 10% of our entire population are suffering for month after month on waiting lists? And the ruin of the NHS is just one example.
It feels like you want to have a discussion about why a cake tastes bad, but saying that we can't discuss the ingredients.
Why would you even try to rule out politics from this kind of question?
Is it because your own political beliefs make it uncomfortable for you to examine the real world changes in this country caused by politicians over the last 15 years?

I disagree. Every generation looks back to the good old days, and young generations somehow buy into the fact that things were easier for those who came before. However, the reality is it's not worse it's just different. Young people these days mostly have warmth, food, internet, phones and everything those pieces of tech give you. It's easy to compare yourself with everyone else and conclude that most people are doing better than you. That's simply not the case. Nobody has ever achieved anything through feeling sorry for themselves and giving up. Bloody minded determination to reach a goal can overcome even the most extreme hurdles. Unfortunately, having an easy upbringing makes us lazy, and it's easy to expect things to just happen because we feel we're owed it.
The world is still a wonderful and amazing place, despite everything. You have a wonderful gift of communication, and it's clear that people warm to your personality. You have a lot going for you, more than many. Make the most of it, and enjoy the moments of success. Remember, your life is only a series of moments like this one. Don't waste them, they will run out all too soon.

I agree with a lot of what you say, a huge amount in fact, but I know myself that it would be harder now to do what I’ve done in the last decade if I had to do it now.
Just the disparity in cost increase versus income increase alone would make that the case. (I’m not even saying it’s not a short term blip as the world sorts itself out after some “disruption” around 2020-21)
If you look at the statistics on house prices vs wage inflation over the last few decades it also shows a significant disparity.
Even on a basic “human need” level young people today are having less “intimacy” than ever as online temptation is playing havoc with our feeble human minds!
The biggest thing to me that sounds the alarm (and I’m totally open to any number of causes for this) is the ever increasing number of lonely desperate men who are deciding to “check out”
Sorry for having to use “RUclips friendly” terms here, the last few years there have been a shocking amount of people “going over” the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, so many in fact there are now multiple Samaritans placards placed on the approach either side.
Like I say the causes are probably varied and too complex for RUclips, but it certainly doesn’t paint a positive picture of the last decade or so.
