I just wanted to comment and say, well, you're terrific. I really mean that. Your videos are an absolute delight to watch. I don't care what you're reviewing, I just want to hear what you have to say about it because you always find a way to make things fun and somehow still seriously informative and insightful at the same time. Not knowing when these videos are going to transition between outright ridiculousness and sincere is what keeps me hooked. You bring levity to what is often a pretty self important industry and it's done in a respectful way. Keep doing what you're doing!
I ditto that. Your video's are a great combination of the key details regarding the watch, your personal take that extends to solutions / suggestions of things you don't like or where improvements can be made (except this video - where due respect you stated that you didn't know the solution to improving the legibility of the time, as you don't know how changes may impact the watch in various areas, or even if possible, which is the case for all of us), most of the time you include information on similar time pieces or give us some context, they are well shot and finally, and probably my favourite bit, your mixture of dry, sarcastic and sometimes 'left field' humour which is perfectly balanced with the aforementioned. Please can you start another channel where you give you take on golf equipment - this being my other passion - where humour is essential or you will lose your sanity due to how infuriating the game can be. Thank you, and keep up the terrific work @you'reterrific Tom
I had one of the first batch of blue ones. Really stunning finishing. Really stunning. Like amazing. When I would hear the sound it would send a little thrill down my spine. Showed it to my Dad before he passed away and he was charmed by it. Great watch.
Love the direction CW is taking with watches like these. They’re really starting to evolve, and I love what they’re doing, excited to see what they have in store in the next few years
Always love the clever and snappy repartee combined with excellent information. My purple Bel Canto is on order for the fall....this makes me look forward to it even more.
On top of the mechanical innovation, there is also the artistic innovation that packages it -- the chiming mechanism IS IN THE SHAPE OF A BIRD. The hammer is the tail feathers; the on/off indicator is the beak.
Fantastic review of a terrific piece from a great, undervalued brand. Also, the quality of 7 inch wrist references in this video was top notch, maybe the best ever. It's for sure my favorite ongoing joke on any YT channel haha. Your 7 inch wrist references are right up there with Adrian's plugs for the Bark & Jack shop. Very fun for longtime fans haha. What a spectacular release from CW, and the Twelve, albeit much less original, looks to keep the momentum! (I have one on preorder in titanium)
I attended the WIND UP WATCH FAIR in SF this past weekend. Christopher Ward booth was packed. Christopher Ward has some pretty cool products available. Very impressed.
Wait wait wait, they made the most desirable and most standard version limited? That's the only thing I disagree with, the rest? Incredible. Very impressed. I knew these guys were good but damn. As an Italian I can say that that was a bel canto indeed. I also agree that having something that dings once an hour is oddly useful. Helps you not lose track of time. Then again mine was a €80 Casio. Great watch. Still have it after more than 10 years. And fantastic video.
Dude, a photo with James Stacey!? Man, that's awesome. Very envious and happy for you, plus so happy to see these videos keep coming. Love this model and really want one. Such a good watch and just fun.
As an artist I appreciate your use of color composition and shapes. You either have formal training or one hell of an eye for it, both of which are useless in a practical sense, like a neon green sweatshirt, but make for pleasing videos.
What good content. So good comments, beautiful footage and as always good sense of humor. I feel you really know us all and speak as we always meet here or there. Keep going!! Cheers
Been loving your videos ever since I discovered the channel (via your review of the steel dial Aqua Terra, which I had just bought). I was very lucky to get this blue Bel Canto (#66) and it's been centre of my collection since last November. Such a unique, unusual and beautiful watch, which continues to delight every time I hear that chime 😍Keep up with the great reviews... thanks👍
Christopher Ward has been doing some crazy things recently; I really like their new "12" watches. It's always great to see a new and really well thought out integrated bracelet sports watch. The one thing that stops me from getting the bel canto is a lack of a second hand. I know this is a bit of a nitpick, obviously this watch is not really supposed to be about the second hand. Being able to accurately set a watch is extremely important to me and if you can never tell where are the seconds are, then it's impossible to set this watch down to the second unless you pull the crown on an hour. This is the same problem I have with those Cartier tanks that lack a second hand and it's also the same reason why I'll never buy an automatic watch without hacking or without the torque method of stopping the seconds. It's just a personal bug bear which maybe eventually I'll get over but I'm hoping that whenever they create a second version of this watch they will add a second hand.
Evan, I love your videos but I think you are under selling this Bel Canto because the hype is deserved and real. Game changing even perhaps (that's IF the snooty watch industry allows it to be). When you mention that the finishing isn't particularly special, I had to make a comment to explain to you that the finishing is astounding for the price. We are talking a chiming watch selling for the price of an entry level Tudor. The dial is made by a company called Positive Coating and the finishing on the chiming mechanism is done by a company called Chronode. Both these companies also make the dial and finishing for the MB&F Legacy machine as well as finish dial components from brands like Urban Jurgenson, Czapek and HYT. We're talking industry leading finishing at the hyper end of the market (beyond AP, Vacheron or Patek) Yes! It's true! And these high end independent brands as you mentioned are often 80 - 100 times more than this Bel Canto. I think it has potential to be game changing because CW are showing everyone that these expensive watch brands are literally being expensive for the sake of being expensive... Which is why upon its release last year, very few major watch publications (Hodinkee, Monochrome etc,) covered and promoted it. I suspect the large independent brands and publications hate CW for revealing these suppliers to the public as it makes the whole industry seem even more over priced than it already is. Sorry for long post. But yes, the hype is deserved.
With you on the standard of finish... I've looked at mine under the loupe many times and it's just superbly polished and finished all over that top dial (platine?). I've only disabled the chime a few times since getting it (over five months now) and it still sounds as beautiful as the very first day 😍
When this watch was released I didn’t notice the mechanical bird and that the chiming mechanism was the birds tail and the red arrow was its beak. Really beautiful design.
Excellent.Waiting for mine in Cielo.A pedantic point I recently learnt is that it is a strike not a chime because its only one note.Courtesy of the clock expert on the UK Antiques Roadshow.Enjoying the wry commentary.
It's a looker, and has a great feature that is surprisingly useful day to day - because one doesn't have to check the watch to get notified as time passes. In my case I'm the one that needs to get reminded that time passes and get stuff done according to some sort of schedule. As for the lack of high horology finishing, I don't think it's necessary, it's such a clean design it looks expensive anyway, a joy to behold. So even though I may be reminded of the passage of time without having to look I will want to anyway.
I was waiting for some Bird jokes 🐦 regarding that bird shaped chiming mechanism with a red beak. Evan, kill me or make more videos, choose one. You're efffin terrific.
Best watch youtuber out there. Every video is engaging and fun. I really dislike CW and don’t much care about this watch, though I must concede it’s pretty unique. But this review was very very entertaining to watch. Kudos 🙌
I have the Black dial variation on order w/deposit. Due in October! Cannot wait. Also: That caseback was designed to help propagate the "Ding" - so it really has a purpose.
I have had the purple Ti with Ti bracelet on order for a while. Other than the lack of contrast between the hands and the bridge, I am much looking forward to receiving it.
I really want one, but can you answer me this... can you read the time? there honestly doesn't seem to be enough contrast on the dial vs hands to read the time.
I cannot wait to get my hands on the purple one I ordered. It's like something Max Busser would do. Unfortunately there are still 8 months to go before expected delivery!!
Great review of a cool piece by CW. Nice to see something different that’s somewhat affordable. The closest to this would be the Meistersinger Bell Hora (that I reviewed last year 😉)
That’s also made by CW / Synergies Horlogères, using the JJ01 module to activate the hourly chime. The mechanics are a lot simpler though as everything is hidden under the dial.

One of your best vids. As for the watch, totally conflicted on this one. I really like a LOT about it. Complication, design, price, outside the box-ed-ness. All great. The lack of legibility and understandable thiccness, not so much. Still, that price for a handsome hourly chime….🤔
07:53 - low legibility forces you to bring your watch closer to your eyes and requires some dedicated time to read it, allowing you to appreciate the design again and again, this action also let’s others around you to notice your watch;)
