Review of the Christopher Ward Bel Canto

- Christopher Ward put the watch world on notice when it released the Bel Canto, a striking hour watch at a relatively approachable price point.
The question is do you lose anything saving the money, or has Christopher Ward really brought a quality mechanical chiming watches to the world.
I came for the butchering of French and German words. I stayed for the beautiful macro shots and insightful commentary.

Thanks for the enjoyable and clear eyed review of this unique watch. Kudos to CW for democratizing this unusual complications. As Mark discussed, a sonnerie au passage is a delightful and interactive companion, at once engaging our senses and reminding us of the inexorable passing of time.

My only gripe with the watch is the dial and bland case back design. The radial gloss finish on the dial, and the standard catalogue color options, dont do the watch any justice imo. Its crying out for more luxurious style choices. They can do aventurine dials on their moonphase for gods sake...give me one of those on this watch even!

The Bel Canto Act II has the Roman numerals & guilloche dial.
Those were nice additions, I think the Roman numerals work best
Do you know of this issue worth the day disc jumping when pulling the crown in 2nd position with the 7750 and its variants? 🤔
Wow the striking hour strikes every hour. That was something I never thought I'd learn, said absolutely no one.
No mention of the bird.
Do people not see it?
When its eating/picking off the ground the sound is off/bird cant sing cuz beak full.
Tail down, beak up, bird will sing!
Silly me but I was expecting it to strike the hours, ie 4 o'clock 4 strikes and not once. I'll pass
You are looking for a Grande Sonnerie that does that. A MUCH more complicated movement that will cost you many times what the Bel Canto does
