I think that phrase you used: "Judge the sin, not the sinner" used to be stated this way: "Hate the sin, not the sinner" I think that one is probably more appropriate. But what the heck do I know.
For you are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness; evil cannot remain with you. Those who brag cannot stand before your eyes, you hate all who do evil, Tehillim (Psa) 5:5-6 God hates the sinner too. Thank God for mercy. So are we to say, “It is unjust for God to do this”? Christians are _begotten_ by God, not adopted(1 Pet. 1:3). The "adoption" belief is based on translated bibles erroneously rendering "sonship" as "adoption". The Holy Spirit is the very DNA of God, as Peter so eloquently put it(2 Pet. 1:4). Having the Holy Spirit is what make someone His child.

Along the theme of people becoming angels, I sometimes hear people saying when someone passes - especially a child - that “God must have needed another Angel”. Not only is that unbiblical but it’s also insulting to the grieving parents. Great video btw! I’m sure we can find many other bad cliches when we look more closely at various sermons, especially those with humanist undertones.
I was waiting to hear "God's timing is always perfect". When a new ministry, a new job, or a new relationship don't work out, it's very easy to say "Well, it wasn't God's timing" or "We didn't wait for God's timing". It is very difficult to look in the mirror and say "You know what, I (we) didn't do a good job of planning or executing that idea".
I saw the mispronouncing more as intentional irony. The acceptance people have that believes the clichés to be truthful and Biblical without question, also made people believe that they may have been mispronouncing cliché incorrectly. It caught one’s attention and perked the ears to listen to the video. Or, it could just be mispronounced, like many, many words I hear people use everyday.
Thank you!! I have heard all of these many times (and in my early walk with Christ, I may have regurgitated one or two), BUT thank the LORD I’ve grown and studied the truth of the Bible. “Jesus is my homeboy…my pal, my buddy” has to be the WORST one and makes my skin crawl. There’s one A-list celebrity who says this all the time and it’s probably why he’s still A-list and not D-List. Jesus is Holy and our Lord and Savior, not one of our mates. ✨🙌🏼
This seems appropriate as a commentary on 1 Peter 2:12. Our very lives reflect who we are and a Christian is identified by his fruit (Luke 6:43-45). Words have to be in concert with behavior (Colossians 4:5-6). If one speaks the Gospel and lives as a pagan, it is hypocrisy. Behaving properly is itself a witness and can be a key to open doors. The saying does not preclude the need to speak. The usual rendering of the saying is, "Preach the gospel at all times and when necessary, use words." It is sad that many use this "clich" 😉 to support an idea that words are not necessary at all, since it seems to have a useful point.
This is a good one. Too many people don't live what they preach. We all need Jesus. If your Spirit is encouraged when you hear this one, that's good. We should strive to be holier in our actions, our heart, from the inside out. The words will come to. And probably less but more powerful.
Another thing I see in Churches, is the acceptance of gay lifestyle. Most real Churches wouldn't accept adulterous lifestyle as an acceptable lifestyle or homosexuals. Another cliche phrase is come as you are, but they don't tell people, that God doesn't want them to stay in the lifestyle of sin.
@user-sz7sw7ys1m You say: "I'd say NO real churches would accept those lifestyles, at least not after being confronted about it with Scripture" (edited). Your comment above does not seem to appear on the public platform, although I received it personally in my inbox, so not sure if it is a technical difficulty or it is purposely hidden or "edited" from view, as it does say "edited" in brackets. Nonetheless, my reply will make little sense if it is published without the original comment from yourself which engendered it, so I have re-typed it above for clarity. There seems to be a lot of disappearing comments lately, on this 'public' site. At any rate, if you are referring to people who commit adultery in the churches that I cited occurs ubiquitously without the same censure as homosexuality etc., because usually those issues are more closer to home and thus less likely to be condemned vehemently from the pulpit, then I would say from my own observation that heterosexual immorality is rarely highlighted. My own mother commited adultery when I was 12 leaving my twin brother, my father and I with nothing to eat on Christmas Day whilst she dashed down the road with my younger siater aged 7 with the roast turkey to meet the man who would eventually become her second husband. 😪 In later life she was hesitant to join the Church for the very attitude you cite above, in that she knew she would not be welcome as an adulteress into any professing Christian congregation. However, she was invited to become an elder in the Church of Scotland (Presbyterian) where she was then living, and when she asked the minister about her background re re-marrying in adulterous circumstances, she was told that they needed "real people" in the church. 🙃🤯🤔 Yes, people do encounter very "real" issues in their lives that can render them inadmissible to the Christian Church, so you seem to suggest that only "real" churches would stand up enough to say "No" to their admittance. Although once a "couple" arrives at church very few would question, as heterosexual couples tend to "blend in" more successfully that the likes of a same-sex couple. The technical bar on adulterers will automatically exclude quite a chunk of heterosexual society, including those who are not atheist, so basically if one does not measure up to a certain level of morality one is not "elegible" to join the ranks of the Church, although a few may slip in. At least that solves the dilemma for some people after which they can just dwell in more detached non-atheistic secular "lifestyles," whether being "confronted by Scripture" or not. I find that even Christians who are "confronted by Scripture" on a great many matters that they may personally not upkeep in their "lifestyles," either through ignorance or by denominational interpretation, will still dismiss that confrontation and continue with the very things that have been pointed out to them, especially in the area of doctrine, observance and Scriptural TRUTH. This includes the area of many of their non-Biblical ecclesiastical man-made traditions. 😑
@user-sz7sw7ys1m Yes, the mystery of disappearing texts is still not solved... 🤔 You seem to present a foolproof method to ensure that wilful unrepentant sin is kept from polluting the Church. The question is, how is "sin" measured? In the book of Revelation it says that "ALL LIARS" will be cast into the lake of fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Yet, even within the churches there are many, including parents, 'Sun'-day school teachers and ministers behind the pulpit telling children about Santa Claus and his flying reindeer which is a LIE, and this is repeated wilfully and unrepentedly year in year out, so is that LIE not a sin? 🙃 There seems to many hidden or not so obvious sins that are either covered up or explained away just because they do not match more obvious sins such as open adultery or fornication. The important thing is whether "ALL LIARS" means "ALL LIARS" or can Christians lie without consequence because if their "saved" status? I was told two stories about December 25th by my parents as a child, one "being good" for "Father Christmas" and the other about a baby born in a stable. Obviously consistent lying causes the listener to eventually decide if they are being deceived. Of course both stories sound true until a child grows up and realises the untruths.

@@saigoevangelises3072 Serving God is a by-product of first knowing and loving Him. The Apostle Paul’s chief desire was to know (ginosko - to know by experience) Him (Phil 3:10). We are not staff merely to serve but are family, adult-sons, redeemed to grow intimately more acquainted with the heart of the Father. The more a believer gets to know God, the more we love Him and want to serve Him. The Apostle Paul also wrote that we are not to “give until it hurts” but rather wrote For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have (2 Cor 8:12). My point here meaning one does not give to the point, usually through emotional appeal or manipulation, where basic bills are not are not paid and we end up actually dishonoring the name of Christ.

Lol...he doesn't talk to me anymore, but I still say hi to him...God bless you, my friend 😊
It is older than that. Algernon Sidney used that phrase in _Discourses Concerning Government_ in 1698. Franklin just repeated it in 1736. The idea is much older, going back even to ancient Greece and China where pagan religions taught that gods respond to the morality and efforts of man.
There are many more verses picked from their context and misused that you could have included, like: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” or “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you” or “Ask for anything in My name” or “Money is the root of all evil” or “I can do all things through Christ” or “God works all things work together for the good of those who love him.” These are all part of a “Folk Theology” that ultimately tricks many people into a religion they think is Christianity.
Good points! Cliches aren’t problem (even some of theese 10 can be any problem). Problem is within US. Within wicked human heart. Problem is people want to use and believe in cliches and schemes - instead of trust God.
@Ken Chilton I was in full agreement with your interpretation of the text, but until recently, I'm split. God is certainly not only with the believers during judgement of a sinning brother. The holy ghost has indwelt believers, so God is present with them when two or more are gathered. Consider also the text doesn't stop at two or three, "And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. Matthew 18:17 KJV Is God not present with them, when they tell it to the church? Certainly, He is omni present. I believe it to be a general assertion for gathered believers that also happens to be applied to witnesses, but not limited to witness. You cannot disprove that God is not present when two or more believers are gathered in His name.
@@med4699 "God is not certainly"? WHAT? THE POINT IS THAT THE CONTEXT IS DISCIPLINE AND NOT PRAYER OR GOD BEING WITH US. God is in me so I dont need other saints for him to be with me. That is THE POINT. The passage is about discipline.

He is not a daddy but a mighty Father. Second, because the word daddy has been corrupted by perverse people so that I can no longer say it without feeling sick.

@@wacerahchege8 He is saying that forgiving doesnt wipe out his memory of the offense. And to that I say we musn't harbor it in our hearts so that it turns into unforgiveness again but we just dont put ourselves in the situation again for that person to hurt us. We have learned from our past so to speak.
Forgiveness is the restoration of the relationship to where it was before the sin was committed. You cannot be expected to forget, but you can be expected to love. God did not forget our sins when Christ died on the cross, but laid on him the full punishment. He put our sins far from us, as far as east from west is distant. He does not remember our sin every time he sees us, but instead sees his son's righteousness. When we look upon a brother we have forgiven, we should think of Christ and how we are forgiven. In the same way we expect God to forgive our sins, we must forgive those who sin against us, and it is only in God's love that we also can see repentance as the end of that old man and the birth of a brother.
"God helps those who help themselves" isn't a point being made about salvation, but about work ethic. In that regard, it's absolutely a biblical concept. I also think the notion of "we are friends of God" is said (biblically) in contrast to us formally being ENEMIES, not that we are "buddies". We are no longer enemies but friends of God. It's a shame that so many translations use the word "friend" because it paints a confusing picture that leads to this misconception.

It was by Jericho; in Jericho, so the word is; in it by faith and hope, though as yet he had not begun to lay siege to it; in it in thought and expectation; or in the fields of Jericho, hard by the city. There, it should seem, he was all alone, fearless of danger, because sure of the divine protection. There he was (some think) meditating and praying; and to those who are so employed God often graciously manifests himself. Or perhaps there he was to take a view of the city, to observe its fortifications, and contrive how to attack it; and perhaps he was at a loss within himself how to make his approaches, when God came and directed him. Note, God will help those that help themselves. Vigilantibus non dormientibus succurrit lex-The law succours those who watch, not those who sleep. I had to re-watch the one for #10. Cause all the other points made sense, but I didn't get your grievance the first time, it took a bit of thought. But I guess when you put it in the form of "God will give you things you can't do on your, but you'll be perfectly capable with his power." Then it makes sense. Afterall, we can't do anything without God truly. We can't save ourselves, and he holds each of our breaths in the palm of his hand. I feel like God likes to work out sanctification by progressively give us heavier loads. Sort of like with weight training and other exercise. You don't start benching 200lbs or 100 push ups in a set right away. Especially if you haven't kept yourself in shape. But you can progressively get stronger with regular practice, and eventually reach goals like that and beyond with enough dedication.

What about "do not tell God you have a big problem but tell your problem you have a big God"? I do agree with the second part of this statement because during time we must mature spiritually to do so but why are we not allowed to pour out our hearts to God. The bible teaches that we shoul cast our wories upon Him...
We ought to ask, "Why do any good things happen to any bad people (includes all of us)?" The answer: by the grace and mercy of God. And then, His kindness should lead us to repentance.

I wish Todd would go into more depth about the whole angel misconception. It seems to happen quite often when someone passes from this earth that people seem to believe that people become angels.
Yeshua, later re-named "Jesus" by the Gentiles, said to the woman who had had five husbands about which husband she would be with in heaven, "Do you not know that you will be like the angels in heaven, neither marrying nor giving in marriage." Seems pretty angel-like to me. 🕊
@@scented-leafpelargonium3366 The sentence basically explained itself. We will be like angels because neither they have husbands nor wives. In that sense we will be like them, not that we will turn into them. Don't fantasize.
@@Bea-xc7wy Okay then, we shall be human non-angels just like them with no husbands or wives. I wasn't fantasizing, I was simply making a comment. It's obvious why humans will never be angels even in heaven, as they are a little bit too impertinent for that. Eternity with nit-picking cheeky Christians isn't that great a prospect from what I perceive.
@@scented-leafpelargonium3366 I don't know which god and what kind of heaven you believe in, but in the real heaven there will certainly not be what you mention because there will only be holy people without any sin. It seems to me that you are looking at all this from a sci-fi and egoistic perspective. If you are looking forward to the next life because you think you will be an angel or have some super powers, you are on the wrong path. The point is not that we should be powerful and that everything revolves around us, God should be in the center and everything should revolve around him both in this and in the next life. And if your comments are just some kind of joke, I don't find them funny.
@@Bea-xc7wy You hit back at me again in another attack. You seem to have strayed from the fact that I had replied originally to another comment by someone else, not YOU, who said: "It seems to happen quite often when someone passes from this earth that people seem to believe that people become angels." That person was "Diverdean59," not "user-ul7nn9wv3s." So my reply was directed to that person, not you, as he made a reference to how some people think people become angels. I replied citing Yeshua's reference to humans being "like angels" in heaven, and without marrying spouses as He was answering a woman who had had several husbands, (so which one would she "be with" in the next life?). I was not saying that we become all powerful sci-fi angels, but I simply affirmed Yeshua's words, that His description sounded pretty "angel-like" to me, as He said exactly that we would be LIKE the angels in heaven, at which point you attacked me for "fantasizing." I objected to you calling me a fantasist, and then agreed in terms closer to what you pointed out that we would not be actual angels in heaven, and so I confirmed that we would be "human non-angels with no husbands or wives," as per your own doctrine about it. Again you bounced back with a retort saying you did not know what god (with a small "g", implying I believe in a false "god" and not the True God) or what heaven I believed in, but that in the "REAL HEAVEN," (implying again that I believe in a false heaven) there will certainly NOT be what "I mention" (which was human non-angels - as you chastised me for saying like Yeshua that we would be LIKE angels, which is "angel-like" - who will not have husbands or wives) "because there will only be HOLY PEOPLE WITHOUT SIN," (which still sounds pretty "angel-LIKE" to me). You then attack me further, taking my comments completely out of context, and making the false allegation that I am "looking at all this from a SCI-FI and EGOTISTICAL perspective"! 🤯 I simply quoted Yeshua then agreed with you that we would not be TOO "angel-like" as humans. You then accuse me of looking forward to the next life "because I think I WILL BE AN ANGEL OR HAVE SOME SUPER POWERS," which I never said at any point in my conversation, so I wonder who is really "fantasizing" here?! I was REPLYING to someone who was saying that some people believe they turn into angels after they die, I was NOT saying that myself, rather I quoted what the Son of God said on the matter, which was being LIKE angels, not being SUPER POWERS. If I was seeking "super powers" why would I bring up the limitation of a celibate spouseless eternity? 🙃 That is hardly an example of "POWER," but rather of SUBMISSION to those new divine dictates. You go even further by re-emphasizing that we should not be focussing on being POWERFUL or that "EVERYTHING REVOLVES AROUND US," which I at no point said or implied ("fantasy" again?) and that "God should be at the center and everything should revolve around him (small "h" yours) both in this life and in the next life," which I NEVER said that God would not be our main focus. I am perceiving by the non-UK spelling of "centre" as "center" that I am reading the reply of someone from outside of the UK who does not appreciate the nuances of British dry wit, hence your caustic remark at the end of your text referring to you not finding jokes "funny." God help us all if heaven is going to filled with such serious "holy people" who are neither angels nor human but are celibate for all eternity without a sense of humour. What a prospect. I thing I would converse with the angels and leave the Christians to themselves. 👼

A bad one “Always preach the gospel and use words only when necessary.”
I have never heard "Jesus is my homeboy" before. Sounds totally disrespectful to me.
Another thing I see in Churches, is the acceptance of gay lifestyle. Most real Churches wouldn't accept adulterous lifestyle as an acceptable lifestyle or homosexuals. Another cliche phrase is come as you are, but they don't tell people, that God doesn't want them to stay in the lifestyle of sin.
come as you are to Jesus, He doesn't hate you enough to leave you as you are
How is being gay compared to adultery? 🙃 Anyhow the churches are full of adulterers anyhow.
In later life she was hesitant to join the Church for the very attitude you cite above, in that she knew she would not be welcome as an adulteress into any professing Christian congregation.
However, she was invited to become an elder in the Church of Scotland (Presbyterian) where she was then living, and when she asked the minister about her background re re-marrying in adulterous circumstances, she was told that they needed "real people" in the church. 🙃🤯🤔
Yes, people do encounter very "real" issues in their lives that can render them inadmissible to the Christian Church, so you seem to suggest that only "real" churches would stand up enough to say "No" to their admittance.
You seem to present a foolproof method to ensure that wilful unrepentant sin is kept from polluting the Church. The question is, how is "sin" measured?
In the book of Revelation it says that "ALL LIARS" will be cast into the lake of fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yet, even within the churches there are many, including parents, 'Sun'-day school teachers and ministers behind the pulpit telling children about Santa Claus and his flying reindeer which is a LIE, and this is repeated wilfully and unrepentedly year in year out, so is that LIE not a sin? 🙃
There seems to many hidden or not so obvious sins that are either covered up or explained away just because they do not match more obvious sins such as open adultery or fornication.

"God helps those who help themselves" is from Benjamin Franklin.
It is older than that. Algernon Sidney used that phrase in _Discourses Concerning Government_ in 1698. Franklin just repeated it in 1736. The idea is much older, going back even to ancient Greece and China where pagan religions taught that gods respond to the morality and efforts of man.

Cliches aren’t problem (even some of theese 10 can be any problem). Problem is within US. Within wicked human heart. Problem is people want to use and believe in cliches and schemes - instead of trust God.
Justin Peters has some videos on those topics. :)
@Ken Chilton I was in full agreement with your interpretation of the text, but until recently, I'm split. God is certainly not only with the believers during judgement of a sinning brother. The holy ghost has indwelt believers, so God is present with them when two or more are gathered. Consider also the text doesn't stop at two or three,
"And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.
Matthew 18:17 KJV
Is God not present with them, when they tell it to the church? Certainly, He is omni present. I believe it to be a general assertion for gathered believers that also happens to be applied to witnesses, but not limited to witness. You cannot disprove that God is not present when two or more believers are gathered in His name.

Exactly. Another one is "if you forgive you will forget" That if you remember the wrong done you never forgave. This one annoys me lol.
Could you elaborate
@@wacerahchege8 He is saying that forgiving doesnt wipe out his memory of the offense. And to that I say we musn't harbor it in our hearts so that it turns into unforgiveness again but we just dont put ourselves in the situation again for that person to hurt us. We have learned from our past so to speak.
@@gigiis526 I see. Thank you.
“God helps those who help themselves”-Matthew Henry in his commentary on Joshua
Exact quote, “II. The place where he had this vision. It was made famous by Ben Franklin.

"Our father, who art in Heaven, HALLOWED be thy name."
Reverential fear, respect. Bible tells us to fear God. Make sure to use SCRIPTURE as your main argument. Because some don't listen to wise words. But the Bible always has power. I commend you for you dedication to The Truth, and bravery. Make no man an idol. I'm glad to see you can/will (God willing) address this issue. HOWEVER. The Bible says to respect your elders (not obey them if they're wrong) and to correct an older man's mistakes with the gentle kindness of speaking to your father. THE BEST WAY to do this, is make a statement in the form of a question. [read "Tactics" by Greg KoukL]
My pastor told me of another churches pastor, who didn't have a problem with /-/0/\/\ose×uaLity.
But he didn't say anything, cause it wasn't his church.
I asked my pastor.. but... aren't all churches supposed to be one big connectes body? and shouldn't you and other pastors have confronted him? or protected his flock (Jesus flock) from his errors?
He agreed. I was right.
Because (St.)Paul went and corrected the wrong beliefs of people at a church he did Not start.
Ultimately, this may come down to personal preference, or some childhood trauma, or neuroses that makes him think it's ok. And we do have Liberty in Christ. And we will disagree on issues, like Paul and Silas? Mark?
Matthew 23
9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
Exactly brother…it’s all unbiblical rubbish.
You seem to have strayed from the fact that I had replied originally to another comment by someone else, not YOU, who said: "It seems to happen quite often when someone passes from this earth that people seem to believe that people become angels." That person was "Diverdean59," not "user-ul7nn9wv3s."
So my reply was directed to that person, not you, as he made a reference to how some people think people become angels.
I simply quoted Yeshua then agreed with you that we would not be TOO "angel-like" as humans.
That is hardly an example of "POWER," but rather of SUBMISSION to those new divine dictates.
I am perceiving by the non-UK spelling of "centre" as "center" that I am reading the reply of someone from outside of the UK who does not appreciate the nuances of British dry wit, hence your caustic remark at the end of your text referring to you not finding jokes "funny."
God help us all if heaven is going to filled with such serious "holy people" who are neither angels nor human but are celibate for all eternity without a sense of humour.
What a prospect.
I thing I would converse with the angels and leave the Christians to themselves.

Here in India, I have never heard that #9 cliché.

Kinda eye opening.
"The Lord helps those who help themselves" is actually a Benjamin Franklin quote. I didn't actually watch the whole video, so he may have mentioned this.
