@dcassin77 I have the Hall Johnson book this is from, and am singing it tonight (Good Friday). The parts that you believe are a cappella are, in fact, accompanied with simple treble notes. Yes, it might not be necessary to play them, but they are written into the music. Excellent Randye! Miss you at Ascension!
From Dr. Timothy Newton, the pianist: I can assure you that neither Miss Jones nor I added or detracted anything from the printed text. The notes you claim are extraneous actually are intended to harmonize delicately with the voice. Be sure you have the appropriate score in front of you when you level criticism. Say what you want, but it's a truly moving performance by a very well-prepared singer. Brava, Randye.
I disagree dcassin. The pianist doesn't play some of the notes at the beginning of different phrases. Nor does the singer sound like she needed any help staying in tune.
Absolutely stunning and very expressive of the text
I am truly moved to tears. #Iwilljustwavemy hand
