the movie that sank kevin costner's career . 😊the rescue diver hanging in the corner of the screen during one of the underwater scenes is probably the most famous moment of the movie! what a shame it was digitally erased when the movie came out on disc!.. 😂

For a great Costner movie that few people remember, check out No Way Out from 1987. Will Patton is in that one with him (Gen Bethlehem from The Postman)...as well as a few big names, like Gene Hackman among others.

This movie is ridiculous, but I love it!

A lot of the discontinuity happened because a typhoon wiped out the set, and had to be rebuilt. The problem was, ALL the building material in the area was also wiped out in the storm, so production struggled after that massive hit to the budget.

Aw yeah! If you are gonna watch The Postman, you GOTTA watch Waterworld...and vice versa of course...it is practically canonical law for Costeranians. (I just made that up, but I bet it is actually true somewhere in the world. LOL)
I cannot think of a Costner movie that is an obvious choice to put into a trilogy of "Costner's Caca", or whatever you would call such a trilogy...though one personal choice I would make for the third would be 13 Days, due to how it mangles the facts of the Cuban Missile Crisis. LOL

Yeah, with all the production nightmares and budget over-runs, this movie got a lot of bad attention, but just like The Postman (1997), I view it as an epic tale and a grand vision. Not a lot of post-apocalyptic movies go for the aquatic thing.

Great reaction. This film is so much better than people give it credit for. The story is unique and engaging, the acting good for the most part and it's entertaining.

19:49 How long would the air last? Interesting question so I looked it up; A 2.4 diameter bubble (about the size of this one) there would air to last 1 person about 6 hours before breathing became laboured & 13 hours before they were unconscious. However the increase in CO2 would be a more pressing matter & the person would be quickly experiencing difficulty breathing & be dead in about 2 hours.

This would have made a good streaming show of about 16 episodes. That way, the characters could be more fleshed out and more world-building could have occurred.

You have to have engineers and builders to survive to re-create all that mechanical needs and machines. Those that can't turn to stealing from those that can.

Great reaction, I agree this is better than The Postman in many ways.
I have a very rare extended version of this (real hard to find) and one of the extra scenes at the end when they are on top of the mountain watching him leave, it pans down to show a plaque at their feet that was from an ascent of that mountain long ago...Mount Everest, of course.

That quad gun is known as the "meat chopper" and is a slightly remodelled M45 Quad mount (4x M2 Brownings). Though introduced in 1944, they were still in use as a low anti-air/close ground defense platform by some NATO countries well into the '80s.
As for why they'd want to kill a mutant? Just old fashioned bigotry as far as I can tell. People have always been afraid of people that are different and no more so than when society isn't doing too well, and this society is post-collapse, so...
As for not randomly finding a small island in a world wide ocean? If it is not only not in any of the larger currents but also quite some distance from any current, randomly dropping in on it wouldn't be very likely. It could in fact be positioned in between strong main currents that keep random ships from getting close unless they actually push to travel through its position. Also, as an example, when Iceland was discovered by the Vikings, they didn't tell anyone else about it for a good long time. They kept that info to themselves. A small safe harbor unknown to others directly north of Scotland, with hot springs and good for sheep? They wanted no visitors. Just to be safe they called it Iceland just to make it sound inhospitable.

I was entertained by this when I saw it in the theater on release, but I understand why many had a problem with it due to too many plot holes.
Hopper was always good when he plyed a crazy bad guy(see Speed).

    Completely avoidable.

lol, saw the behind the scenes of this movie 2 days ago, the trailer shot where he is standing on top of the mast was kinda dangerous!when they started shooting the scene, the wind was kinda still, when they started filming, the wind picked up!no real safety harness and at speed, so the boat rocked a bit and was really hauling ass!so they had to sail about 1½ miles into the not so windy side of the island so he could get down safely!

"I don't know science like this" yeaaa... Neither do we, but this scene is evidently a plot flaw for those who do. Greetings from the Mile High City! And, if you know Denver, Colorado well, they are clearly showing the ruined city he's showing off is Denver. (A clear shot of the Cash register/Wells Fargo building is an obvious one as he dives down) The problem is, there's not enough water on the planet to put Colorado under water. If you melt EVERYTHING on Earth, we're still happily above the waves. They made a big deal about it on the local news when the movie came out. :)

Worst case scenario wouldn't have water levels rise that high. There isn't enough water in the world - just like there isn't enough for Noah's flood either. This doesn't mean rising sea levels wouldn't displace hundreds of millions and greatly reduce food producing land.

Our planet is mostly water. More then half. My personal belief is a mostly water planet blew up and Earth's orbit carried it threw the giant water drops and that caused 'a great flood' which greatly reduced the land mass of the planet. Just a thought.

Suspend disbelief. Who cares if the origin story is scientific. It's a post apocalyptic mad max water world. Same m0r0ns will watch Marvel/DC movies and not bat an eye. silly. Even if their explanation is wrong, the explanation is done through the main character. It is biased. It could just be his belief or be the "common myth." Once you get over that, it's a great post-ap movie with amazing creativity and theme and symbology and story.

Man, I can't even stand going through the reaction to this dog of a movie. The premise just kills any suspension of disbelief since there isn't enough ice to cause the land to be submerged. At worst, it will be like "The Expanse". Just a terrible premise all in all.
