I just got into Weiss over Christmas. I got my first two trail decks and after practicing by myself since I have no friends (which is sad) I’m getting a hang of it

Honestly such a good video. I can agree with how Weiss is the most balanced out of all the card games I have played as well. Good video!

a cool thing is that its a good conversation starter. since each deck is a different IP, you get to understand what kind of person the other person is and their interest. You can spark a conversation about the show the deck is based on. i had so many cool conversations just from playing and learning something new

    I love hot takes.
    Here’s mine.
I agree that this game, at its core, is fundamentally balanced and skill dependent. There is luck but to anyone who says that’s all Weiss is, play more games and better your understanding of it. Card games are luck dependent. It’s about hedging your bets. Competitively, it’s about fine tuning and perfecting a build that is both rewarding to pilot but actively engages you and your opponent to outmaneuver it. For other folks, it’s playing your favorite show or game and favorite characters. Some games have it but not like Weiss, and they’ll never touch it in that regard and niche.
Cost is pretty good too, especially if you can control which sets to get into,… which I don’t.
This community is one of the best and most organic, down to earth groups I’ve been a part of. There are some bad apples, but they’re fewer and farther between in comparison to others. As a former TO, I’m happy to have also built my communities from the ground up, connect groups that would have been isolated and just see how happy folks have gotten from making those game defining plays, or pulling an SP for the first time from a couple of packs. It’s such a good feeling to be able to take part in this awesome group and endeavor.

I think you did a great job explaining, I share a lot of the same sentiments. I have played many card games over the past 13yrs and Weiss has consistently been a fun time, I picked it up back in 2017 and dont plan to stop playing any time soon!

    My take on this one:
Weiss is one of the most fun TCGs I've played, but for pure competitive viability I would look elsewhere. Weiss feels more "balanced" than other games only because of the RNG element that, let's be real, is bigger than in some other games - and that is absolutely fine. I play Weiss competitively and while I love doing that, let's not pretend to ourselves that it's a great competitive game, there is still too much RNG to make that the case.
Compared to MTG, YGO etc. it's a veeeery different experience. If you're trying to be the best, or care so much for pure skill expression, Weiss is probably a perfect game for you.
The fact that Weiss is so cheap is actually wonderful. The cost of the game is a really great thing, and other TCGs I've mentioned are WAY too expensive.
Helps if you like anime too, because waifus give it a pretty big plus.

    • @BaseDamage
      @BaseDamage  Год назад +2

I completely agree! And yes, there is way more RNG than other tcgs, by far XD

I'd argue that MTG is extremely RNG dependent as well due to land, but I completely agree that Weiss is super RNG heavy

I can feel most of the points in your video. Although some people complain it's not fair the they skip level 3 thanks to triple-Gura, it's still more fun than being OTK'd in Yu-Gi-Oh or playing against a heavy control Deck in MTG. Even at regional events you happen to see more different deckbuilds, which is quite refreshing. Even if you don't want to play competitive, you can still have fun and win some games. Regarding the price, I think it's great that you can get playsets pretty cheap those days, but the prices of higher rarities... those really exploded and it makes me kinda sad. I play since the start of Weiß Schwarz English, my wife started playing around when AoT 2 released and since back then we could make some really close friends within the (small) community, hell, initially I got into close contact with my wife because of Weiß 😅 So yeah, even if I have a really unlucky day playing Weiß, it's still an enjoyable day.

    • @BaseDamage
      @BaseDamage  Год назад +2

Agreed! I've been on the receiving end of several crazy lv3 boards, but I'll take those any day compared to not being able to even play the game. I got a video coming out soon emphasizing this point too
Thank you so much for the comment! ^~^

A Friend of ours recently bought two Trials of Avatar (and some singles) to start the game. We do not go easy on him (even using Decks like Alice), but he still likes the game and is happy about the fact, that he is able to win (a few times).

I never played Weiss Schwartz because I’m still in school and I can’t really order stuff but all the stuff u said about Yugioh is so true. I have normal store bought Yugioh decks and cards and stuff but I mainly play master duel and mostly everyone who plays rank uses a otk deck and I just sit there wonder how I can win then I just forfeit

One thing I admire about Weiss Schwarz is how every series is limited to itself. If you're playing Attack on Titan, you only have to worry about Attack on Titan cards. If you're playing Love Live, you only have to worry about the Love Live cards.
It keeps the barrier to entry pretty low, especially since every series tends to get a Trial Deck from what I've seen. Helps get people in the door.
It's not like Magic's eternal formats or Yugioh as a whole where you'll frequently need some card that was released 8 years ago that's never gotten a reprint. It still happens with the series that get multiple sets, sure, but it's much less common than in other card games.
And since series are restricted to themselves, it keeps prices of cards in that set tied to the viability/playability/collectibility of that series by itself. Which is neat.

just recently got into WS. Also found it very enjoyable because of the fair play and price. I bought my first box for $50 and got enough cards to make a decent deck while also pulling a signed card. When I got into the deckbuilding part I found it more fun than other card games as it requires a bit more creativity in my opinion. And even though decks don't necessarily need to be meta since RNG basically can balance a lot of decks most playable cards can be bought for prices below the $10 mark. Overall, I found it enjoyable as a collector to see special variants of cards to hopefully chase after in sets while also having access to regular variants of the same card to use in play.

I 100% agree with you on many of the points you've mentioned here! I myself come from yugioh and yes weiss is much more fair, price comparison is usually better, community thus far is less toxic compared to others etc. And, what other game out there were you can have like idols face titans from attack on titan? The titles in this game is amazing as well. Thanks for this.
On a side note, what is that? That's going on in the background? Is this some sort or online game version of schwarz? I'm interested if you know what it is and how to install/play. Currently I have to use tabletop simulator to play online with others. Which is difficult as you have to buy it, mod it, and use it in a way manually, were as that simulation seems to do more automatically.
    Thanks again.

I just wish there were more ways to stop damage from being taken outside of "just cancel bro"
And to be fair, we are getting more Backups and Counters that do so, but they should be more splashable or non color restricted.
I like Weiss myself, but often times it just feels like you're just hoping RNG-esus would be on your side and just cancel out of situations you would have normally won if you can just control your damage taken in some capacity.

I buy a pair of decks and treat like a non-colectable game with my friends. FaB I play not many times. WS I start to play recently, I have Suisei deck and Korone deck. But GA turn into my favorite. For me it's because of how chill and non stressful it is. There is a chance for me to suddenly win and suddenly lose so it actually loosen my nerves. Unlike yugioh when I use my brain to 500% capacity only to scoop because I have no hand traps lol.

It's like watching online chess where you see the gauge saying how much advantage each side has. It can change at any point
But i see so many games in yugioh just end cause the person drew a bad hand. I don't think any game should just come down to a dice roll

This Simulator isn't bad, just sadly some of the cards aren't coded in properly :(
And the shuffler can be god awful, you either draw 2-3 climax in your starting hands, have multiple copies of a card stacked on top of your deck, or the climax are all at the very bottom.

As a MtG player my problems with the game are the stupidest card. varients, the weird crossovers, and the sheer amount of product that is released. I can’t remember the last time I got excited for a new MtG product.

  • @pepperonization

    What i like about WS
    1. cheap to enter into the format even competitive compared to MTG (shocklands, fetchlands, etc)
    2. more fair (less mana screw, no counterspells, etc)
    3. not as toxic as other TCGs
    4. artwork is way way better than MTG
    5. card quality is so much better than MTG (like 1000% better)
    6. rewards skill over luck
    7. way way less pay to win
    The only con is :
    1. English set needs to be released faster, can't really read japanese and need to keep refering to heart of cards for the translation for JP sets.

But I continued playing all the way up through every format until they got to links. that's when i scooped and left the game because of all the issues I stated in the video. I played for well over 20 years dude XD

Talking about "community" is such a moot statement.. I get it, but it's subjective and completely specific to your experiences.
Aside from that, it's such a simplistic design that it's hard to hate.
I agree YuGiOh has become a nightmare, but Magic has more "options" to its approach (just because people don't like blue does it make it a bad game).
Games like Weiss are a dime a dozen. Like a Chinese Copycat taking a more popular product and reproducing the basic parts, doing it to death with no semblance of creativity added to it.
But the more power to you.

A click bait and basically a biased opinion. As you mentioned, everyone has their own opinion, but not every opinion is correct. And no i'm not here to point out mtg as the best tcg, as a matter of fact, i consider Transformers (dead game i know) tcg as the best. Digimon has the best resource management, mtg is the most complex, i can go on and on, but weiss is far from being the top. Not to sound rude, but you're merely being biased for your own content.

    • @BaseDamage
      @BaseDamage  10 месяцев назад +1

What part of it is clickbait? XD
It's not like I made some outrageous title claiming Weiss to be the absolute best TCG ever made. It's literally just me telling why I prefer it over all the other games I've played over the course of almost 20 years. I don't think Weiss is the pinnacle of all TCGs, I just prefer it to all the others. So how is that click bait or even a wrong opinion?
