I get a better sense of the track and surrounding terrain in these old broadcasts than I do today's 8X higher resolution.

Agreed even just 15-20 years back audio broadcasts were so much better. Currently NBC does a far better job than Fox.

Thing is the terrain around AMS doesn't even look like that any more other than the airport.

I miss these days , i reckon these days just forgotten. Thank you for posting this race. I grew up by Rockingham, my dad took us to all the races , we would camp out all weekend at the drag strip. I was 11 years old in 73 , glad my dad was a gear head. Some of the best times of my life. I miss my dad , everything i know came from him. We were kinda poor ,but i has a great childhood.👍👍🏁🏁

Same here, buddy. I grew up near Robbins. My dad and I didn't miss a race at the Rock from 1976 until I joined the Army in 1987. After I got out, we saw more races together at the Rock until he passed away in 2004. If the USGA can bring the World Golf Hall of Fame back to Pinehurst, and agree to play the U.S. Open there every 5-6 years, tell me why we can't have one race a year (at least) back at the Rock? Give us a date besides February or November and the place will be packed.

running several laps down, but in the top 5. that will never happen again. it’s amazing just how much faster the top 3 or 4 cars were than the rest of the field back then.

Yup and every person who whines about Nascar sucking today & how much better it used to be would lose thier shit in less than a season if it was like this.

Yes. The cars were physically harder to drive but the depth of the fields was unfortunately that much inferior compared to today

Im making an observation in petty spin at beginning. Now I’m seeing these cars had the pony’s, horse power. Or else car would most likely went around. And yes today,I think in my humble nascar fan opinion, they do come around and quick. However they also lack the hp, example Richard petty Atlanta 73, lol to pull out of what might be unnecessary spins and cautions. Ok case and point, Larson, Wallace final labs Texas playoff race 2023, last yr. Larson stalled out the spin for a split second if u blinked or some nerd u didn’t see it, look back and watch how rare starts coming around and stalls for a brief moment. Now that a damn good race car driver saving it exactly how the best there has ever been does here only, THERE WASNT THE HP TO pull off highly entertaining and much more satisfying action of near wreck over come by sheer skill like The king Richard Petty. Now Nascar what will it cost 💲 to put them 45 hp under hoods, no aero hp stuff, straight power to the mother fn earth horse power. They nearly there just few more baby, come on few more horsy’s and fans get to see brilliants poetry in motion on NASCAR sanction ground and national international TV in Formula One boys will see this shit. Wrc gentleman will be very serious but will also see. Lol I rest my case. Richard petty bout the only drive straight up I truly feel could show Larson up any time any place any car. The man had rally dirt racing trade craft and technical understanding before they had it. Talking bout let the slide in turn also work as breaking so u saving brakes and car slows self down and also positioning for nice straight line off corner hauling ass on straight away. Did I mention I love nascar? I love it. Bobby Isaac is a forgotten hero. Wtf! Well he was

Ok Nascar see how the curves sweep around and in natural sweeping way here in the organic og configuration? I’m sure y’all put in the mind power for new configuration and all. Ok cool take the tapered spacers off and let it be what it is baby! Y’all, ought to hire my ass. I’ll work with you on money. Shit I do it free already so just happy to help and put nascar were it needs and is heading to. Hmu!
