As it says on Wikipedia "The song's theme is inspired by the Spanish Civil War, and the idealism of Welsh volunteers who joined the left-wing International Brigades fighting for the Spanish Republic against Francisco Franco's military rebels. The song takes its name from a Republican propaganda poster of the time written in English and displaying a photograph of a dead young child killed by the Nationalists, under a sky filled with bomber aircraft, with the song's titular warning written at the bottom". The poster was prophetic as those same Condor Legion bombers fighting for Franco would within a few years be bombing Warsaw, Rotterdam, London and even Cardiff and Swansea in Wales.
Oh yes but a communist Spain was not going to be a beacon of freedom and democracy either. Franco was the least evil of the two and after his death no civil war and now modern Spain is not too bad although Catalonia should be free

@@lelobest "Franco was the least evil of the two"? Seriously? You really need to pick up a history book. Thousands and thousands of people were kidnapped and murdered by the Franco regime not only during the Spanish Civil War but for decades after. Spain became a closed economy and inequality was huge. The only reason there were no further civil wars was because much of the Republican resistance had either been killed or fled. They are literally still finding mass graves of people killed by the fascists in Spain. The Republicans were far from the most evil. Had they won the Civil War, Spain might have had some chance. This song isn't about your crazy conspiracy theory, its about the Spanish civil war and how the youth were effected by what happened and its impact on society.
@@keishasims3192 You have to have kids to care for and worry about to understand. What we allow to happen today affects their future. If you keep a close eye on world events there's plenty to be concerned about. The song doesn't have to be about anything specific, just general stuff we tolerate or allow through lack of action or pushback., or even through ignorance. A lot of folk, especially those who haven't had kids, will promote things that sound utopian and wonderful but really aren't. Younger people especially (and I was one of them) tend to gravitate towards very idealistic political ideas that lead to dystopian realities. Our children live with the consequences. Does that help Keisha?
The title of the song is inspired from the Spanish Civil War against the fascists. People around the world came together in Spain against the world fascists. The democratic part had a "logo" putting in the streets and writing in walls: " IF YOU TOLERATE THIS THEN YOUR CHILDREN WILL BE NEXT". Free Greece!!!

Not to mention the passports were never supposed to happen, it was just a conspiracy theory. I think allowing the est to get away with what they're getting away with will have far worse consequences than Covid ever could. It's a virus. We have to get on with it. I had honestly never heard that song and I knew less about the band that sang it casually I heard it for the first time last week and it immediately seemed like a great song with tremendous lyrics.
Same here... heard it for the 1st time at the end of a video documentary last week & searched it out.
Found the band's name & finally downloaded about 4 dozen tracks of theirs that I like for my collection - can't know them all no matter how big my music collection is (
I jus heard it for the 1st time a few days ago, and I felt from the beginning that this song is emotional and amazing
Scary times xxx
A lesson for humanity.
Brilliant in every second, a masterpiece!
This song is so relevant to anything that’s going on in today’s society
Nope, in fact it’s the opposite. Plus it’s based upon events in the 1930’s.
We don't learn from history we are doomed to repeat it. I hate living in these times.
So appropriate for these times.
Song was about the future.. it's coming true.
Sad.
What would've happen if no One had the back bone to Stand up to Hitler ......Come on Ppl !!!
Still today 😔 20/20 covertooperationvaccinationidentificationartificialintelligence 🙈🙉🙊

This song isn't about your crazy conspiracy theory, its about the Spanish civil war and how the youth were effected by what happened and its impact on society.

Welcome to 2020. We tolerated and our children are next.
What does it mean? I don't have kids.
Hell yeah, more relevant than ever.
How about fee the world from primative islam???!!
Still one of the deepest songs written.
they should make a new version for this and the title should be "and if we tolerate this then ur childrens children will be next"
Uhh, the lyrics are wrong when he says 'If you tolerate this, then your children will be next', you write ' If you tolerate this, the your children will be next'!
our children are already next in line... in the States for the moment, the rest of the world to follow... unless we DON'T tolerate this!
This song reminds me of my dad, he always used to play it in the car when i was little
I’ll never forget the Sunday this went to No.1 in the U.K. Though I was only 12 years old I knew it was very important and symbolic.
As it so happened it was the last day of the summer holidays and back to school the next day, so it felt like freedom had died to a 12 year old I guess.
I'm sure that I'm not the only one who noticed the typos that start at 1:06. The for Then
A lot of people forget about the guy that went missing from the band who was also part of the
Band and as a lyricis etc , Richey edwards who dissapeared in the 90s and since has never been seen or his body found since just before he was about to leave wales (UK) and tour in America he dissapeared been a lot of dodgy musician/ entertainer deaths from day one etc that we have lost but this one to me is a total rabbit hole as like I said no body found etc but as usual with a lot of rockstars it was just being assumed by most people that because he had addictionc and mental illness that it was suicide ,other reasons for the suicide theory is because his car or van was found in the water near the bridge that's where people would aparently go to commit suicide , worth looking into and if interested in links etc just ask
I think this song sums up 2021
End the lockdown!
This band aren’t anti lockdown freaks, hence the song lyrics. Google the meaning.
@@jamiemire3463 It's referring to facism in Spain. Lockdowns are facist. Vaccine passports are facist. They're coercive, they're unjustified, they're discriminative and regardless of whether or not you're afraid of catching Covid it has never been a good thing in history or in the modern era when an establishment are allowed so much control over it's people all because of mass hysteria they helped drive.
And at the end of the day, if we had things the "anti-lockdown freaks" way we'd still give you the option to wear your mask and run away from life forever if you wanted to. At least have the decency to do the same, especially if you call yourself a libral. Your ancestors who fought for the values you now hate roll over in their graves.
@@seanbrien7293 Actually my Irish ancestors fought for the values that I now believe in and demonstrate, anti imperialism and anti fascism. I think you need a better understanding of what fascism entails, it’s certainly not a lockdown to save lives or vaccine passports (that you’ve needed for years in some countries).
@@jamiemire3463 People such as the ones who committed suicide in lockdown, died as a result of the cancer backlog or drank themselves to death in quarantine would disagree.
As for vax passports, so what if some other countries had it already? Some parts of the Middle East chop off parts of your body for non-compliance. What's your point? Not to mention the passports were never supposed to happen, it was just a conspiracy theory. Now you need them to enter pubs, it's actually WORSE than what the so-called "conspiracy theorists" predicted.
You're supporting an elitist side who restrict movement, use coercion and intimidation to command obedience to a set of rules, and who censor alternative voices, including experts who are skeptical of the Covid narrative. I'm sorry but that's hardly democratic.
I'm not saying the virus itself doesn't exist, but I don't think it justifies a "new normal" that involves the masses succumbing to an all-powerful establishment, relying on the assumption that they'd never lie or take advantage of people being scared enough to actually WANT their rights taken away. I think allowing the est to get away with what they're getting away with will have far worse consequences than Covid ever could. It's a virus. We have to get on with it. Or at least don't enforce your views just because YOU'RE scared shitless to ever face life again without a mask or jab.
So sad but true in 2022..
God help our kids ,dictators liars hypocrites thieves facists that is I’m afraid our present government ,they should rot in hell
our most powerful weapon is LOVE, LOVE - no words no black no white no rich no poor no hate ever it quickly gets oota control which is why we are here. Louder than bombs
@@lonelycake4114 “Louder than bombs” proves that you’re just telling people your interpretation and making them believe it as fact. When it’s way off, in fact it’s the complete opposite. It’s a pro-socialism anti fascist song about the Franco regime and Welsh soldiers that went to fight Franco’s forces in the Spanish civil war. Just listen to the lyrics “So If I can shoot rabbits then I can shoot fascists” ❤️ amazing lyrics. Just because you’re too lazy to research the meaning of the song and you’d prefer to spread disinformation, I thought I’d help you out mate.
