I have had this soap cutter for about 4 years before ever needing to repair it. It is a sturdy cutter. The warranty is 1 year so after that year is up, you will want to know how it works and how to fix it.

Tools that I used:
adjustable or 1/2" wrench. Two would be ideal. One for holding and another for turning. Or, if you only have one, use pliers or something to hold while you use the wrench to turn.
Needle Nose Pliers: Use to crease and manipulate wire string. Notice how I use a turning motion to pull it tight.
I found this cheap little needle nose pliers that also comes with a wire cutter built in. It would be perfect for this job: amzn.to/2wCEBpM
Or, a separate wire Cutter to cut off excess wire.

Thanks for the video. I have the same cutter but its blue from Soapequipment. I haven't yet needed to repair any strings but I won't be afraid to try it now.

Looks like a work horse 4 years is a very long time before needing repair, but to me it looks harder to rewire.

Hi Bonnie, I know the guitar strings aren't as good of quality as the originals, which are a custom made wire that Soap Equipment has manufactured for them. If the Rouge Strings don't last long for you, you can Take a picture of your Soap Cutter, and contact SE to order the Original wire. (they require a picture of the cutter, because they don't like to sell the wire, unless you own one of their cutters)
When I ordered some from SE earlier this year, it was $13.30 shipped, for 20' of wire.
