In the 'hood, all that matters are your colors... Bob Hodges (Robert Duvall) is a seasoned street cop who has learned a lot from long experience while his new, young partner, Danny McGavin (Sean Penn), has learned nothing - yet knows it all. Forced to work together in the L.A.P.D.'s renowned C.R.A.S.H. anti-gang unit, they set out to investigate a brutal gang murder. Hated and hunted by both sides, the cops soon find themselves trapped in the middle of a turf war. With nowhere to turn, they are ambushed, double-crossed and shot at in a take-no-prisoners street battle. As the violence escalates, these two diametrically opposed men must come to terms with one important fact - to stay alive they must come together!

80s and 90s L.A. was no joke 💯
L.A. always has been and always will be one big fucking joke!
LA sucks. Too many welfare riding parasites and human waste.

Then in 1982 my Grandfather Reuben Rossell Justice Sr introduced me to Tijuiana and Southern California at 10 years old. And 1992-1993 at 20-21 was my RETURN back since a child. *SO MY ENTIRE LIFE I've watched ALL THE MADNESS!
So there was this one time I went to Costco and I was wearing my Ice Cube sweatshirt. One of the employees complemented my hoodie and mention if I saw the movie “Colors” and he through Ice Cube was the rapper for the main song. But I corrected him saying that it was Ice T instead of Ice Cube. After that he told me that he watched that movie it first came out in the theater. Also he mentioned he lived in L.A. at the time. And said that the movie was really controversial or something and there was gang fights happening then they had to shut down the movie theaters in the area. Crazy stuff right there.
💙
yeah thats what happens when you make movies real instead of "cool", they strike a nerve in society.
@@Shorty_Lickens real? 😂 I never seen this movie but they got like 1000 people in a cell in their street clothes. When do you ever seen that shit in the county or prison? They also talk white washed to make it so general America could understand better. Also a Mexican and a black shook hands in prison. They'd both get smashed off the yard for that.
He from LA and he mistaked ICE T for Cube, come on man. He is letting his hood down.
@@progressivelife841 Well, he was caucasian. Then again you never know if he was from the hood or not🤣
I remember as a child of the 80’s our family at the drive in watching this movie. Oh the memories
I remember at a theatre in Stockholm, thinking, wow, great acting. Must get the OST.
This movie is the reason Crips and Bloods went viral in America.
Edit: The WORLD!
Yep, imitators and pretenders lol
Shit always spreads.
NOT REALLY....THE GANGS WAS ALWAYS HERE AND WILL CONTINUE....SAD ....KILLING KILLING KILLING
nope..just merica
Orion was the best back in the day and this was a great movie
Saw it 10x at least when I worked a movie theater in HS ...still watch it today...so many great scenes ...Maria C Alonso and Rico Suave stole it!
When orion made awesome movies
Orion does some seriously good shit dude
Dances with wolves return of the living dead ...the best 80s 90s pictures its Orion
Robocop, Terminator, Platoon.
That hey blood part always come to my head
Colors is came out April 15th,1988!
Voiceover man sounds sexually excited when pronouncing the title.
Hell yeah colours, dirty minx!
The narrator sounded like a young Morgan Freeman
@@francisokudu1733 I thought the same thing.

that orion logo at the beginning, so 80's
Good times, great momories, awesome movies. Late 80s L A.
During the 80s L.A was so awesome!
Think you missed the point of the movie but ok
Great movie, very nice
AMEN or LIKEWISE! In my opinion, the 80s WERE, and ALWAYS WILL BE, "THE PINNACLE OF CIVILIZATION!"
Low IQ comment
great one of my favorite movies of all time
That's a bad ass music track.
Thats the kind of song tracks we need in GTA
Tokyo Iced-T
the movie turns 30 today!
It looked 30 years old when it was made!
@@markant9534 looks like it was shot yesterday
Movie was released when I was born basically lol
Watching this made me realize....this was probably the most violent, action packed movie trailer of my life
RIP Dennis Hopper! No kids today know you......
i know him from true romance if that counts
"I'll fuck anything that moves!"
Those of us that do love that wild crazy f*ck.
I remember this trailer in the UK. Top film!
I cannot believe I have never heard of this. Seeing movies like boyz n da hood, Juice, Menace 2 Society, Strapped and Bullet.
How is that even possible?!
I know this was supposed to be a serious movie, but a lot of Sean Penn's scenes made me laugh, because it's so relevant to today. It seems almost like it's poking fun at everything people see wrong with policing today. It's just funny to see that people's impressions of policing haven't changed much since the 80s.
He was just like how pigs are fake punks
That was kind of the entire point of the film
Didn't even realize Don Chelle was in this, damn! He still looks good for his age. I was 13 when this movie came out, and I'm 44 now. 😳
You gonna be 50 in 3 and half years now
Chelle ? Who´s that ? lol
Cheadle was a bit character actor around this era, didn't came up until Devil in a Blue Dress in '95 w/ Denzel.
This is a bad-ass trailer.
Yeah, I can't believe it has been so long since it came out, 1988, wow. I saw it with a buddy in the movie theater.
In the cinema*

Does anyone know the title of the song in the background?
CLASSIC!!!!
I love this movie, a pity that today more people do not know it.
I think this movie may actually be a stealth prequel to Robocop.
???
The situation in 1988 and 2021 does not seem to have changed much.
LAPD this is as real as it gets
Shoot, Belize’s gang problem is credited to this movie. Isn’t that insane how a foreign country can adopt American mannerisms and culture just from film??
It’s always gonna be gangs…35 years later he ain’t lyin it’s worse
My older brothers wasn’t sh*t for allowing me to watch things like this!
🤣🤣🤣
Can anyone tell me what the music is?
Still OG movie
The movies which set off an explosion of wannabe gangbangers throughout North America. This movie has had a detrimental effect of the youth in America since 1988. I remember before 88 and kids identified themselves with what music, sport, or drug you consumed.
I don't think it's just a movie that set off gang involvement. The 80s and 90s had many factors that contrinuted to a peak in gang activity
so a movie about gangs help make the gangs. thats like a true story based on a true story made the true story.
Gang violence was alive and well all over America before this film came out, it just shined a spotlight on it in the media and news.
If anything, it's more that cultural products reflecting gangster culture (from movies to music to video games - Wu Tang Shaolin Style for example) contributed towards 'gangsters' being admired by particularly youths of the general population and today rap music and all the bad habits which accompany them becoming mainstream in the outlook of the people (twerking for example).
@@thebarbaryghostsf You don’t see or hear white kids acting or speaking like wannabe gangbangers before 88.
Oh man this was a great movie. 😆
En Madrid o Barcelona, teníamos otros delincuentes, tipo el Vaquilla,el Jaro,el Torete. Y en los 80 España sufrió la crisis de la heroína, murieron miles de jóvenes 😞😞😓😓 y se destrozaron familias
Yeah In L.A. (and all over USA) we had the crack epidemic..many violent crimes from people trying to get money for crack (car jackings, robberies, etc.), gang violence over drug selling territory. L.A. could be very dangerous then..had a number of things happen to me. Now we have this Fentanyl crisis.. people been dropping like flies for years.. getting worse with this "tranq" dope and you can't even get heroin..don't know what happened to it?
Does anyone kno the song.?
Entertaining movie!
As much as I love this movie, I feel like it had the exact opposite effect for which it was intended lol
he almost got it right with this movie... but the blood on the bike had his red rag on the Crip side!!! blood is not on the left
Didnt matter in 1988
Amazing
this aged well
This still happens in Chicago
??? Literally nobody bangs off colors in Chicago and hasn't since the 90s. Kings still wear black and gold but that's basically it.
@@christianrichards1659 i meant the violence no the colors. Yeah Latin Kings wear Black and Gold
I love this movie
It’s good
Same.
Dennis Hopper was not always great. But most of the time he really was.
This a movie were all the characters are unlikeable. Pretty bad ass atmosphere
Orion Pictures movies was so cool!
Terminator.
Robocop.
etc.
And now its so cliched and mindless
Saw this movie on Saturday afternoon blocks on FOX back in late 00’s. This film went hard. But I always confuse this movie with another LA Cop movie were the climax leads to the LA Riots and the cop looking at the city burn.
This movie is a joke. I lived there during that time. In a varrio. This movie only went hard in bullshit and making suckers outside think that's what it was like.
I think the movie you confused it with was 2002's "Dark Blue" w/ Kurt Russel. It was set in 1992.
@The Barbary Ghost thanks man. Been looking all over for that movie
@@ishmael802 Glad I was able to help!
When that movie came out everyone was in a gang afterwards in Berlin
Many people died back then

I hated growing up in the city in the 90's.
Great movie I have been watching this since the day it came out and back then most us NYC cats looks very down on other states as corney no all these kids doing it
Thank god the movie wasn't like the trailer.
I watched this film while I was waiting for GTA San Andreas to release

Rocket looks like lil uzi very 😂
Looks like GTA San Andreas, as a live action side story.
Wow Sean penn
Why not catch some triads members, cartels members, mafia members also
I wonder if they gonna make a remake of this movie.
It would be wonderfull to see The Game, Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube in remake movie.
Its sequel straight out of Compton,
Great movie but Herbie Hancock did not do a good job on the soundtrack. The scores should have been really dark brah 😐

We all need to drop the divisive adjectives and just state that we are CHRISTians less we fall into exactly what the darkness wants for us🔙.
We are humans that's our race. We maybe be of different breeds yet we where made in HIS image
A good prayer:
I'm a sinner JESUS please forgive me for all my sins I know you shed your Blood for me on the cross at Calvary. Thank you JESUS for my salvation and for shedding they Blood for me. I love you JESUS.

Tell me something If you trying to kill another gang and you start the shooting Don't you think instead of going back to your hiding spot you should finish the job ,this movie right here make criminals look real dumb and if the crips knew where rocket was hiding don't you think the cops should have known also since he did have a bench warrant for his arrest for murder, a lot of flaws in this movies a lot of red flags I thought this movie was going to be better than what it was, My favorite part of the movie is when the cop Danny seen his ex chick a hooker that was funny but overall this movie is a six out of a 10 for me too slow very low budget and the criminals is so stupid one crip had a warrant for his arrest instead of staying away from the cop station he went to go check on another person and got locked up very dumb criminals in this movie very dumb... It's a shame Uncle Bob died he was just about to retire too...
Minneapolis Police Chokehold murder brought me here
I was born in 1988

0:51 "Our community have kids out there who are dying over colors. I mean actually dying over red or blue"
- Back then it was gangs. 2024 it's politics. Same result. Nothing has changed.
I've never seen such a boring and meaningless movie. I don't know what it's about. Someone keeps getting arrested and that's it. I guess the movie was made just to showcase young Sean Penn.
Me bario, homes.

this looks super racist wow
