shukran for this instructional video! i really didn't know how to regulate the sound of Dums and Taks on my new darbouka. after the tuning my darbouka sounds much better.
To the people with the "fully closes screw" problem. Simply put. There is a reason why he tunes each screw a little at a time...its so it alligns properly and doesnt strip the screw whole. If you have a gap like that you are on the verge of stripping it...thus ruining it. Little at a time. Pay attention to the torque on the screws
Very useful video. Today I bought my first darbuka, after being inspired by you guys. It is an entry-level Meinl HE-104. It has a very weird shape (not round edge like the more professional ones with 8 screws). Any tips for playing this one?
@tofeek i just received a darbuka as a gift, it doesnt sound very bassy and the taks seems very damped, and the head doesnt seem to be very taught, the guy who sold it said it needs to be heated over a candle for a bit. I would appreciate it if you could give me some information about this please.
Thank you so much for the tutorial and EXCELLENT inspiring playing! Just one thing ... that squeak when you tightened that one bolt ... that's a warning sign. You need to put a little grease or oil on the bolts, because if they're not lubricated, they can't do their job properly and if the body of the drum is aluminum, copper, brass, etc then with the steel they can corrode ... if someone gets sweat (salty) down in there, spills a soda drink, even beer anything, it can cause a big problem, the bolt can get stuck in there. So yes, a little 3 in 1 oil or anything, on each bolt, just a tiny bit, no squeak, no problems.
Before I changed my head, the plate and the skin were even. Once I changed and placed the Power Beat skin, there is a small gap and the screws cannot close anymore. Both skins are the same size at 8 1/2 inches. Is there anyway I can close the gap? Will is start to stretch after playing?
On another video posted on the same channel , the player suggests we use the hair dryer while tightening the screws then leave it to rest for a couple of days . You don't 🤔
You are doing it wrong bro. You should tighten the screws just like when you fasten a car tire. First screw on 6 o clock peg then the one on opposite side on 12 o clock then the one on 9 o clock and after the one on 3 o clock and so on. After that you can tune it as desired. Well played btw, you are really rocking it!
Bravo pour cette brillante démonstration. I love it
