Eddie Taylor, the man credited as the driving force behind most of Jimmy Reed's great recordings! This clip just proves how good he actually was!! Utterly fantastic!!!
I love You father Eddie Taylor" And Thank You For Leaving Me Your Gift From Your Legacy, You Are Always In My Heart. From Your First Born Brenda Taylor. Awsome Job Well Done. Everyone Welcome ! Eddie Taylor Blues Foundation, Purple Octave LLC Publishing Brenda Taylor President.
Another Pearl! Looks like most of rare videos of Chicago blues survived thanks to European/Japanese tours and TV stations recording it. Thank you for sharing Bob!
Yes Dats Da "HONEY DRIPPER" On Piano Les !!! I Got To Play With The Aces Back In 1976 When I Lived In Chicago !!! Played With Mr. Sykes Whenever He Came To Atlanta My Home Town Back In Da Day !!! Sadly I Never Got To Meet Or Play With The Great Eddie Taylor !!! Big Walter Horton Was My Mentor !!!
I saw him a couple of years after this in Glasgow, maybe the same time he was in Liverpool. It was one of the shows with several artists - Doctor Ross, Big John Wrencher, Boogie Woogie Red and Eddie T. He played solo and was very good. I would have loved to have seen him with a great band like this. Great singer, great guitar player.
That must have been the year because I also booked Big John Wrencher around the same time who - I understand, had not long lost his arm in a car accident ..
Hi Robert, I just remembered a friend of mine knew a Blues enthusiast from Liverpool, you maybe knew, called Eddie Cousins. He produced a booklet on the tour. Still got it.
Hi Hugh - I seem to remember the name - was he a photographer? Any chance you could scan your booklet and let me see it? BTW I also booked a couple more blues artists including: Lightnin' Slim; Whispering Smith; Chicago pianists Erwin Helfer amd Blind John Davis; Gene 'Mighty Flea' Connors (who I actually played with a couple of times years later when he lived in Germany) etc.
Hi Robert, Yes he photographed and followed the Big Bear tour. It is called "Travelling with the Blues" (A photographical survey) : Blues-Gospel Research Library Publication No 1 I'd be glad to scan it for you. Give me your address and I'll scan it and send a copy to you. I saw Lightnin' and Whispering Smith too. Lightning Slim was a real star. I can still see him in flared trousers, big tulip lappelled jacket and cap all in matching tweed!
Five giants of the blues, all gone too soon. I never heard Eddie play that super-fast riff before!,(or since). The first time he played it here, the camera wasn't on either fingerboard, so I thought it must've been Louis.
While I respect the 70's-era Muddy Waters Band for calling themselves "The Legendary Blues Band," IMHO The ACES are the TRUE legendary Blues band. How can you beat Louis and Dave Myers and Fred Below? And here they're backing Eddie Taylor, who was THE guitar man for Jimmy Reed, John Lee Hooker, Walter Horton, and so many more.
Diatton BluesHi - You're right of course! ... But the French TV companies put these titles on and there are one or two errors in nearly every broadcast... you've got to remember though that English is not their language so I think it's easy to see why this would happen... I thought I'd just leave them the way they were. I'm just glad (as I'm sure you must be) that we have these recordings. Incidentally I had a club in Liverpool during the mid-70's and I booked Eddie Taylor on one occassion - he was amazing!!
There's another version of this same song available, apparently from the same festival. Louis takes a strong solo on that one (Eddie calls out his name, so you know it's him). He also calls out, "Okay, Mr. Sykes" before the piano solo. If this works, it can be found here: ruclips.net/video/h1X2BpJQJ8o/видео.html (Also -- Why is the title of this song always transcribed as "Rockin' 83 Highway" or "Rock On 83 Highway," when it's obviously "Wreck On 83 Highway"? )
John Hedger Indeed it is! Great player . My friend met all these guys during numerous trips to Chicago and Mississippi. He says they all had incredible charisma to go along with the talent. I have no doubt of it..great clip!
R Dewar That leaves me with a lot to think about. What I mean is the only people who can demand the law be enforced have to have the money for lawyers. But let me think about what you're saying. Funny thing, the time stamp on this reply says 2 years ago!
... anybody able to tell me/us where this has been originally published/broadcast? which (French) TV channel (unfortunately I cannot identify the logo bottom right)?
Hi Stefan - The logo is mine .. I use it to track reappearances of this material on other sites , primarily to see if anyone else is actually making material like this available to others using other social media outlets - Bob Hardy

This video should be launched into outer space so that extra terrestrials can learn what the Blues is all about. So terrific.
Fool! Where you think it came from?? Get some order bout you

You just took tell it on the mountain to new heights. 😂😂
Not many deep and dirty Chicago blues performances like this on video. This is truly a historical record.

Watching Eddie Taylor playing his Gibson ES-335 guitar, is like watching a musician who had TOTAL command of the fretboard!
It's not a 335 but a 355. But I agree with you. I never met Eddie, but somehow like to think of him as my mentor when it comes to blues guitar.
I never thought I will ever get a chance to see Eddie Taylor in motion : he's been one of my blues hero for so long. Thank you so much fot the thrill.
" .. thanks Bob for sharing this video footage with us ... "
Wonderful document never seen Eddie TAylor playing live up to now ! What a blast thanks for sharing
Must be a contender for the best blues video on RUclips. What a fantastic piece of music played by a genius and with the greatest back-up band ever.
Thanks for posting another treasure
Had the pleasure of seeing Eddie Taylor with Hubert Sumlin, Carey Bell and the great Freddy Below in Berlin in the 1970s .... he was fabulous...

THE BEST, EDDIE TAYLOR !!!
Tasty indeed! I can listen to him all day long.

Eddie Taylor was the most underrated of the great Chicago blues guitars
Not by other Blues musicians.
Really great. Thanks for sharing.

Eddie Taylor was THE guy in the electric Chicago blues scene…played on Jimmy Reed and Bill Doggett records. So incredibly under appreciate.
Great share. Thank you. Looove.
Beautiful stuff! Thanks for posting this...
In Keith Richards book 'Life' he writes about being a big Jimmy Reed fan. I'm wondering if who Richards was actually hearing was Eddie Taylor?
Fabulous.
What a great guitar player!!
Magnificent!
oh yeah the blues is in my soul and in my mind babe

Believe it or not, I played this very guitar - thank you & RIP Eddie Taylor Jr.
Was it red or black?

Fred Below , so cool , Eddie Taylor serving some real greasy shit ,the whole band was so smooth kind of shit you can't get enough of ...

Eddie Taylor with the Aces - France 1970 (Live video)
If Eddie is working with the Meyers brothers he's in good company.
❤️❤️❤️
That is most definitely Roosevelt Sykes on piano.
Thanks! that was going to bother me.
If ain't no one done got a clue this music has its ROOTS in the Twin Stars, they need to wake up out of their slumber, man. Serious.

Sounds similar to Micheal Bloomfield. Great sounding blues guitarist.
I can see where Freddie king and Albert along got some of these licks from.
same herw
Dear Bob the video is PERFECT, that's for sure, but i think that the right title is "Wreck On The Highway"...

Bob the Juke Many thanks that you answered me, dear Bob! Nice message of yours! Good that we all love the Blues so much...

Isaac Montoya Many thanks my friend...
+Isaac 'Down Home Ike' Montoya yes sir runs north from Baltimore up in to p.a.theres a wreck near everyday!

Is this an example of the West Side Sound?
Curious...could that be Roosevelt Sykes on piano? I thank God for you and anyone posting anything with Eddie Taylor in it.
+Les Forgue - Yes it's Sykes …
