Around 1969 Mr. Johnson made a couple of visits to the Colonial Tavern in Toronto. On one visit he performed with Big Mama Thornton and the Atlanta Blues Band. He always gave 100%. Those are good memories!
@andrew griggs I wish I could have been there! But I was just a toddler then 🤭 Really appreciate you sharing. I love being able to re-live my dad's foot steps! 🎸
It is so hard to find ANY live videos of Luther Johnson! Thank you very very much for sharing this real Diamond with us! Sonny Thompson like a cherry on the Cake ;-) THANKS again!!!
Hey Dede! I just discovered your father and he’s one of my new fav blues men. His style was/is so unique. Anxious to share his music with my friends. Going to learn some of his licks!!! You have a lot to be proud of!
To think all these years later some fella in Aotearoa - New Zealand ( me )would find this and love it in 2018, just as much as you all did back then. Your Pops was amazing lass. :) Bless
Not much known in Europe. I saw him late in the 70's in Barcelona. It was, yeah, solid and bluesy and wonderful. I bought an l.p the next day wich I still play and enjoy.

Rest in love and peace Uncle BB, miss you too. 🥰
I so agree with you +Franck Goldwasser ! I've watched this video countless times! It totally fills my heart for my Pops and makes me happy that music lovers are remembering his contribution to the Blues !! #priceless
You must be so proud of your dad! Even though he sadly died so young, he’s still bringing so much joy to people all over the world decades later. We are all so blessed to have his music.
So happy I came across this. Always hoped someone would post a video of this amazing man. And now, to hear from his beautiful daughter DeDe. I saw him a twice at the Colonial Tavern on Yonge Street, Toronto in 1969 and 1970. Once he played with John Lee Hooker and the other time, Big Mama Thornton, I believe. Great times! RIP Luther!

R Van Dijk Thank you, that is very kind of you! ♥
I played guitar in his band in 1974. Then I moved to Ssn Francisco and played for Charles Brown for the next ten years.
I adored Charles. I met him when he played a string of dates at the Hollywood Roosevelt in 1991.
Wow, Chales Brown always had great guitar players.
Charles Brown Yeah
Did you play with Luther when he was playing in and around Boston?
@@larryhirst3651 Yes. Until I left for San Francisco in the fall of 74.
loved him. I'm surprised at 81 years to hear a blues artist I hadn't heard before. I love his phrasing, his voice and his guitar!!
God, I wish I could sing like him. Pure soul🔥
Excellent! No pedals, no effects, no pick, just pure genius up there playing!
My thumb is so cramped!! 😾😾😿
What's wrong with a pick🙄🤔
@@awadaawada6738 Did I say anything's wrong with a pick? The answer is NO, I didn't. Which leaves me wondering why you asked the question.🙂
In a world full of heavy metal blues garbage, it's a real pleasure to see Luther laying it down with passion and soul
I don't know what rock I've been trapped under! I should have known this man. It's the kind of blues I like ... brilliant and perfect for my ears.
