I have been dying to make this Ballerina skirt foreverrrr!! OMG I seriously haven't had this much fun making something!! Ahhh! Okay, maybe i was having too much fun! haha... Anyway, so easy to make too! a little time consuming but super doable! ^_^

My Story:
I'm an LA-based fashion designer. I've worked for Project Runway star/designer Michael Costello, as a Senior Designer/Project Manager for almost 6 years. I also partnered with him and Revolve on launching and creating the MichaelCostelloxREVOLVE collection for 2018 and 2019 and was responsible for producing mood/inspo boards, collaborating in all design aspects, create patterns and first samples, attending fittings, attend photo shoots, etc. Prior to our partnership with Revolve, I worked solely on Michael Costello Couture as Project Manager and played the lead role in planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing projects whilst ensuring each project is done on time and within budget. Trust me though, it's more fun than it sounds! lol And i'm here because Corona made me do it. And i've always really loved video editing. I thought this would be a great opportunity to mix the things i love.. designing, filming the process, and video editing. I now work freelance but mostly make wedding dresses for my own clients. So why not film as i go, right? and share what i know! Makes the whole process extra challenging yet exciting! tehee.. ^_^

Girl I felt special doing those baby hems by hand but bought the baby hem foot after 20+ years of sewing, game changer.
im a figure skater and buying wrap skirts can be anywhere from $20- $100 for a good quality one! So instead of spending the money to get a bunch of different colors, Im just going to keep my idle hands busy and make my own. Thank you so much for this video!!

@@sad_soju hmm.. maybe you needed to remeasure the width of the waist of the skirt and match it on the waist band before sewing the tail part of it. Also, you can DM me a picture of the part with the problem and that way i can see and help you solve this problem ☺️☺️

Hi Julie! On this video i’m using satin.. but you can also use rayon or anything similar ☺️ and yes, there should some at Joann’s ☺️

And to be quite honest, cutting it on the bias might actually fit slightly better. ☺️ The fabric i’m using in the video has a bit if a stretch so it ended up being okay and since the tie just wraps around the waist it’s barely noticeable. Also another way to conserve some fabric ☺️

Could you explain how you measured how much waistband to cut? I am a little confused when using my measurements! I LOVE this tutorial, I have been watching so many tutorials trying to learn how to thrift flip a silk robe and this tutorial seems so simple my beginner self will be able to do it

Hi! This took less than 3yds i believe. Just make sure the fabric is no less than 58” wide since you’ll be cutting on fold that way you can also play with length incase you decide to make it longer.. lmk how it goes! 😍 and omg Happy Birthday! 🎉🎂🎈

I just made the pattern according to my measurements and followed what was explained in the video but it didn’t fit around the waist. I only just realised after re-watching the video that she has the fabric folded over when she cuts the pattern out so that it becomes a full circle skirt with a split but it isn’t explained in the video.
So make sure your fabric is folded over when you cut out your pattern!
She did say that you need to cut it on fold. Just rewatch the video
I definitely did something wrong because when I put my paper against myself, my waist didn't fit. I'm so happy I tested it before I cut the fabric

How did u just rip the satin like that? I’m making the straps right now and have nooo idea how in theworld you just ripped it…I don’t wanna mess it up lol
When in doubt, try it on a scrap of fabric first.
Note: Cut about 1” along the weft and you just start ripping it apart. 😉😉 you’ll end up with a straighter weft edge than cutting it with scissors. Hehe you got this, boo!!

where did you get your fabric??
I got it in downtown LA.. however, there a quite a few you can buy on Etsy or Amazon. Search for satin.. either silk or poly, depending on your budget and make sure it’s at least 58” wide ☺️

If you wanted a 4" overlap at the front, why did you double it to 8"? The waist measurement + 4" would have been enough no?
She wanted it to overlap 4inches past the centre front on the inside as well...provides more coverage so you don't have to worry if the wrap opens a bit.
@@chenelleboodoo3462 That doesn't make sense though. That would still make it an 8" overlap since you're just adding 2 x 4" to the existing circumference.
@@mostas it has to be doubled because i wanted 4” to overlap on the left and also 4” to overlap on the Right panel of the front skirt. So if you were to look at the skirt ON me you should be able to measure 4” of fabric from CF to the opening of the Left and another 4 from CF to the Right panel of the skirt. Hopefully this helps.
Only adding 4 would mean you would only have 2” of coverage on each side of the skirt. 🙂
I'm confused about the waist band. Probably not your fault, I just struggled a bit. I'm a better learner if I see it myself, obviously not gonna happen. Could you help by explaining it again?

It is VERY similar.. Only difference for the skirt is that you’ll be attaching the waisband to the entire skirt piece instead of only the back (like shown in the pants on the video i linked).

You might even get away with just a meter and half! ☺️
