  • Sean Reinert Drum Clinic from Guitar Center in Hallandale Florida February 1st 1997. This is a very rare video only a few people have seen. I'm posting it here on Seans youtube in his memory. Thanks to Joe Nunez (ex-Soulfly Drummer) for sending it to me after Sean passed away.

Sean is TWENTY FIVE here, and he's absolutely crushing. He had also already gone through an evolution in his playing at this point and crossed over between drastically different styles, playing at the most elite level. It's like a Pro Bowl running back switching position and becoming a Pro Bowl receiver. Sean was a legend who deserved way more mainstream attention from the drumming world than he received, but he regardless entertained and educated thousands upon thousands of music fans across the world. What a mark to leave on the world. It's also clear, though, that his friends and loved ones adored him as a human f'ing being above all, and that matters most. I grew up in South Florida and am ten years his junior. While I never knew Sean, I had friends who did and who engineered on records of his. He was a mythical figure to us drummers! There was never a doubt that Sean was absolutely, objectively the baddest drummer in South Florida during his time there -- a force so undeniable that he shared his gifts with the world at large at an age when most of us are only beginning to think about our path. Here's to one of the all-time greats.

Sean was such an amazing and a once in lifetime type player. I Saw Cynic on every tour starting with their first tour for Focus in 1994 and Sean and the band were mind blowing. I'm so glad we were able to film that Cynic Show in it's entirety in 1994. On the Traced in Air tour I was leaving the venue after the set and a there was Sean Reinert breaking down his drums with Paul just a few feet away, He was a super nice guy and I told him that I had copies of the set from Focus show in Phoenix that I burned on to DVD and asked if he would like a copy of it. He said that he would love to have it because they did not have much from that era as far as videos. He was so humble. its still hard to believe both Sean Reinert and Sean Malone left us so early in 2020. Two world class musicians that we will never see the likes of again.

And, not long after this clinic (year to year and a half later) Mr. Derrek Roddy would start HIS "mark/stamp" on the extreme metal world of drumming with Malevolent Creation's IN COLD BLOOD cd!!! And though the previous Malevolent Creation cd ETERNAL with Dave Culross was crushing along with Suffocation's EP DESPISE THE SUN a bit later, I NEVER will forget my drum brother John Longstreth sayin "Here. Check THIS guy OUT!" and lending me the IN COLD BLOOD cd. I was just BLOWN TF away....And eventually, MOST everyone would find out about Derek Roddy!.........Wonder just WHEN WAS that guy's last contribution on a cd per say?
