Fun supplies, and love to see that you tried the lightfast pencils. 😁 A few colours I think you may enjoy are Ocean Blue Dark, (a very slightly green leaning navy blue which is great for linework and layers beautifully over the Foliage colour that you already have), Dusky Pink, Racing Green and Forest (two deep dark greens great for shadows and linework,) Sandstone and Dark Honey, (two natural earthy colours which can work well for buildings.) The Yellow Ochre is a different, more pastel shade to the Luminance version, and is a good colour for light sand. Finally, the Sun Yellow is a great yellow to have, true to its name, it really makes other colours sing when layered with them. ☀️ thanks for the video! 😊🎨✏️
Thank you so much! These colours sound right up my street 😍 So helpful of you to share and also with ideas for how to use them and comparisons - thanks again! 🥰
@KatieMoody I'm so glad it was helpful! :D I could talk about art supplies all day haha
Thank you for sharing your haul. I love using Matte Medium to activate my Neo II so I can add more layers on top. Hope you are enjoying your supplies. Can’t wait to see how you experiment with the gelliplate. 💕✂️🐞
Thank you so much, Anateresa! 🥰 What a great tip about the matte medium and neocolors! 😄
Lovely Haul Katie ....hope you have fun with your gel plate . lovely colors . Happy crafting xxxxxx
Thank you so much!! Hope you're doing well lovely! 💕
@@KatieMoody Aww thanks Katie. Yes thank you 😀xxx I really hope you get to visit your Husband or he comes home soon xxxxx🥰
what a fantastic haul, cannot wait to see what you create Katie ☺☺☺
Thank you so much 💜
I’m so excited to see what you do with the gel plate!
Thanks so much, Sarah! It's been perfect for exploring textures so far this month 🤩
What a lovely haul, can’t wait to see you try some of these in future videos 😄 have been really curious about how jelly plate printing works, so would be fun to see you play around with that sometime 💖
Thank you so much 🥰 I'll for sure do a video in the future! ❤️
Always exciting to see new art supplies 🤩 good week Katie!
Thanks so much, Teresa! 💜
Derwent lightfast! YESSSSSS! Careful. You will soon want them all. I cant remember if you've tried the Derwent Drawing colour pencils? They are so smooth and lovely.
Hahaha I do need to be careful because I can't justify buying more pencils 🤣 Yes! I looove the Derwent Drawing pencils!
@@KatieMoody oh my goodness, What better justification than having an awesome art business?? Girl, buy EVERYTHING! In all seriousness, though, my Derwent lightfast staples will always be Amber Gold, Autumn Brown, Mars Black (a very warm black), Foliage, Ivy, and most importantly Forest. I have not found their equals in color in any of the other comparative color pencil brands. I highly recommend those. Have you tried any Holbein pencils? I can go on and on about those, too! haha!
I learn so much from your videos! You inspired me to start getting Scrawlr art box each month so I can start playing with art and different art supplies at a low(er) cost. Thank you 🧡
Oh that's so kind, thank you so much!! So happy to hear that and that you're enjoying playing with it all! 🥰
I would love to see what you do with the gel plate!! I have one but haven’t used it much… Looking for inspiration!
I found it a bit overwhelming at first because there are so many ways to use it! I'll definitely try and share a video about it soon - hopefully once I've got to grips with it a bit more 😊
I recently started using acrylics in gel printing, got some Liquitex Basics, and was enthralled at how Neocolors, gouache and colored pencils layer over them, along with other texture media. It's really fun. I can't wait to see what you do.
Thank you so much! So great to hear your mixed media experiments with it, I'm excited to play! 🥰
So many goodies!! I'd love to see a video on the gel plate, I've only seen people use it on separate sheets and not at all in sketchbooks, which seems a fun thing to add to a sketchbook
Thanks so much! That's exactly how I felt about it - lots of videos about using them for printing collage sheets and less about sketchbooking! I've just shared a video with experiments over on my Patreon but I'll try and share more here on RUclips at some point too 😊
Fab little haul! I’d be interested in seeing you use the gelli plate. I love the colours of the Amsterdam acrylic paints you bought too - such pretty colours 😊
Thanks so much Emma! 💜 Those paints have worked out so well for me this month, it's been really handy to just grab them without mixing up my own colours!
i really love using my gelli plate, can get some really neat effects with it 😀
I've been loving it so far - my head is swimming with ideas 😆🤩
Your gelli plate is much cleaner than mine ;) I have several tubes of Amsterdam paint and it's really a good quality-price paint. There are a lot of colors. I have the greyish blue but with the camera yours appears much lighter and blue even though it is much grayer. Thanks for the idea of mixing your green with the blue to darken it a little; I did a test with my brilliant green and the greyish blue and I really like the result. Enjoy and have fun with your gelli plate :)
Haha Luisa, I hadn't used it at this point - it's much dirtier now 🙈 I agree, the Amsterdam paint is great! I'm really impressed with it especially with the price point. That's interesting! My Greyish Blue definitely seems more blue so I was surprised at the name! No worries at all, so glad it helped with mixing your greens! Thanks for watching 🥰
Fun haul!! Matte medium is a fave either me!! I use it for collage instead of glue too!
Thanks Arty!! I've not used it before but it seems like such a versatile medium to have in the studio! 😄
Hi Katie, I have the grand total of 2 Derwent lightfast pencils so far, foliage which I love and also dusky pink which I think you may like too. Great video, thank you 🙂
Oooh the dusky pink sounds great! I love pairing pink with greens so I'll keep it in mind. Thank you! 😊
Looking forward to seeing what you do with the Gelli plate. I use mine with Golden open acrylics. The paint takes longer to dry, so you have more time to play around on the plate before you print. I mostly use my printed papers for collage. I have noticed that the ugliest prints often work the best, so I never throw any of the prints away.
Thanks so much! I've heard great things about Golden paint, and that's really good to hear that it works well for gelli plate printing too! I'm still learning about letting things dry or working quickly for printing so that sounds super helpful it gives a bit more time to play! I can't wait to build up a collection of prints for future collages 😊
Ha - glad I am not the only one who asks their partner to bring back supplies from their work! My partner works in Switzerland a lot and next week he’s bringing me back some (very marginally cheaper) Museum Aquarelle from a shop I like 😄
Hahah well we might as well get some benefits from them working away, right! 😄 Ooh I've not tried that brand of pencil before!
@@KatieMoody they’re the lightfast artist-grade line of watercolour pencils from Caran d’Ache (kind of their water-soluble equivalent to Luminance). Nothing rare - but they happen to be a little bit cheaper in the Swiss shop close to where my partner works! And those pencils are *not* cheap, so I’ll take any discount I can, haha
Wonderful video as always! Thank you Katie! ❤️
Thank you for watching Viviana 🥰💜
Thank you for the vidéo Katie !
I see a lot of artists on Instagram working with the gel plate and it looks interesting. I can't wait to find out what we can do with it!
Thanks so much Sab! I can see it being an ongoing adventure for sure - so many different ways to use it! 🤯
What a great haul Katie! I really like the colour of that Edding 3D marker pen actually, but it’s frustrating that it doesn’t have a proper nib. The gelli plate looks really interesting, I’m looking forward to seeing what you create with it! I really can’t get along with Derwent lightfast pencils, except the Midnight Black one which is my favourite dark shade across any brand, for some reason it’s much creamier than the other shades in the lightfast range.
Thank you so much, Holly! For sure, I've been using it by squeezing it out of the pen but then it's just a glorified paint tube basically 😆 Oooh that's interesting! I definitely found the green I bought to be softer than the blue, so it's good to hear you've found one that's creamier - it's surprising that the consistency changes so much between the colours!!
Awesome review! I was hoping to have an art motivator and it looks like your patreon is a good fit. Maybe the one that includes zoom.
Thank you so much! I'd love to have you as part of our Patreon community 🥰 Art motivator is such a great phrase for it!!
Seeing you holding the Edding 3D liner in your hand with both caps off got me so scared. 😂 That's an explosion waiting to happen.
You can get the Edding markers from Cultpens! If you end up liking them, that is.
Your Mid Ultramarine Lightfast sounds (and looks, but that might be the light) strange. 🤔 Mine is soft and waxy, almost sticky. Like Derwent Drawing soft. (this is my third one and IIRC they all have been like this)
I too caved in and got the gel plate from last year's Christmas sales! Yet to break it in, but excited to see what you make with yours. :)
ETA: if you don't want to use the Edding 3D liner as it is, try using it with gel printing! It could be quite cool with separating areas tiffany glass style!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Hahaha yes, there's a video cut in there where I realised that probably wasn't the best idea and put the cap back on 😂 Good to know they're available from Cult Pens - thank you!
Oh that is interesting!! Mine is definitely not like the Derwent Drawing pencils at all, it feels much, much harder! The green one I tried sounds much more like yours... hmm!
I was deliberating getting the gel plate for so long but having so much fun experimenting with it so far! And thanks for idea for the 3d liner too - that would be a very cool technique!! So far I've just been using it as acrylic paint but it defeats the point of it being in a pen form 😅
@@KatieMoody yes, your green Lightfast sounds 'regular' to me! If I actually compare Lightfast & Drawing, the Lightfasts feel much more 'dry'. The Drawing are buttery and waxy, like sticky toffee; Lightfasts more like soft and slight gritty, like fudge to keep the candy analogy going. :) A bit like Drawings = oil pastels and Lightfasts = soft pastels.
@@thinkerdreamersketcherspyWhat fantastic analagies 😄 Now I want candy! 🤣
Love this haul! I especially love seeing the colours you pick as it reflects your work - I dream of one day being able to have my own style and palette to choose from instead of just going crazy feeling like I need every colour 😂
I have a question though! Do you use acrylic paint in your sketchbook much? Similar to how one might use gouache? Or is it only for printing?
Thanks so much, Laura! That's so nice to hear that the colours reflect my work - I must have a subconscious colour palette in my head that influences my decisions 😄 I have used acrylic paint in my sketchbook before though not so much now! I've done a few spreads that are all painted in acrylic (I experimented with it more during my year long daily art project and my 100 day one last year), but I prefer using gouache. Nowadays (and apart from printing!) I tend to use it as a base layer underneath my gouache as it doesn't get reactivated 😊
Kinda wanna take a bite out of the gel plate :)
Hahaha it looks like it would be so satisfying 😆
thanks for posting, but first, I must get the coffee going ; )
A must! 🤗
Katie, I believe you're supposed to keep the back protective sheet on your Gel plate....x Nell.
Oh thank you for the tip!! I am a total novice with it so far 😆
@@KatieMoody 🧡
Great video, Katie!! Love art hauls
Thank you so much! 💜 I store it in the packaging it came in, basically just between two plastic acrylic sheets! 😊
If it helps anyone : Gerstaecker sells in the UK (they sell in France under the "géant des beaux arts" name also)... They have one shop in London at least it's called Great art.
Oooh that is useful (and dangerous!) info 😅 Thank you so much for sharing!
If you haven’t already, check out Yeates Makes’ RUclips channel. He uses gel plates in so many creative ways in his art and in sketchbooks, too. As far as I’m concerned, he is the best!
Yessss I adore his channel!! One of my favourites, I have so many ideas after watching just one of his videos! 😄
Haha I bought that style of edding pen here in Istanbul and I am also confused by it, like it just doesn’t really work for much? Really I find the edding acrylic pens are just lacking overall, they seem to dry up and I find they scratch paper A LOT. I wish they performed better as they are half the price of molotows.
Haha I'm so glad I'm not the only one!! I don't really understand what it's for 🙈 Shame about the others though, I haven't used them much yet but I was hopeful because the pigment seems great! I wish Molotows were cheaper that's for sure 🤣
UH OH, Katie has posted an art haul again... better hide the wallet
🤣🤣🤣 Really must remember to add a warning before I share! 😆
