@@wl4dymir i don't know why people are writing Ding off like he's a nobody. in my opinion Ding still has a pretty good chance to retain the title - THIS ONE TIME at least. to me it's like 60-40 in favour of Ding.
he had a bad tournament and isn't playing much. it doesn't mean he's not preparing for the upcoming match. if anything, it implies the contrary.

South Indians have been writing their names in an unconventional manner for several generations. They initialize thier family name as the first letter and write their given name. So he pribably was writing his name as D. Gukesh. Dommaraju is actually his family name or last name. In the US and even in North India his name should be Gukesh Dommaraju.
By the way his family should be originally from Andhra not Tamilanadu.

In April 2024,, this almost 2 year-old video is looking like one of Ben's best. The comments starting at at 5:55 (especially 6:04) and 49:27 (esp. 50:00) have aged particularly well at this point. It is good to see a player who is solid in his preparation, likes "double-edged" and exciting matches, and gets wins as black.
Obviously his Candidates performance didn't come out of nowhere. 4.5 points as black even with one loss! Impressive.
Ben, we'll need another video, Gukesh v2. While you're at it, give us some good Candidates 2024 content too! Good luck to Gukesh in the world championsip match later this year!

    Pronunciation guide:
    Gukesh: gook-AESH ('gook' like 'cook')
    Praggnanandhaa: prug-NAA-nund-uh ('prug' like 'plug')
And repeating what others have already said - some Indian naming conventions put the father's name (or sometimes the place of birth or the name of the community/subcaste) in front of their given names. So Gukesh is his given name, and Dommaraju is possibly the name of his community. And Rameshbabu is Praggnanandhaa's (and Vaishali's) father's name.
