Actually, those old AM factory radios are better than you may think. Personally I'd do some research before throwing it out. Just my thoughts. Anyone can toss a new one in, but to actually have an original restored one is rarer. 🐾🐕🐶

Thanks. I probably agree. Would be cool to keep it. Can always add a hidden blue tooth amp.

I'm in the same situation, I have a Sapphire 1 that I hooked up to a six volt battery and it just makes a ticking noise through the speaker, no reception. From what I researched, the capacitors go bad over time. not sure I want to spend the time and money troubleshooting and restoring it. I'll probably just keep it in the car for looks and hook up a separate Bluetooth speaker under the dash. You might want to hook yours up to a 6 volt battery and see what it does, It might work. There should be two black power wires coming from the radio. One should have a plastic fuse case, that one is radio power. The second black wire is power to the light bulb. Hook your negative battery wire to the mounting bracket on the back, that's the ground. Then there should be the duel speaker wire also. Good luck!

thanks I think I'm with you. I have another beetle that I did put a Bluetooth only amp in. I got the amp from trauma audio out of Florida and it's amazing. I just have a toggle switch on the dash that turns the amp on, but it's hidden and it just functions Bluetooth from the phone.

Little late. If you go on The Samba there is a guy in there that adds FM and Blue Tooth to old Vw radios.
