    Good video. Be a stand up guy and treat everyone well.
    And now I'll brag... I was shooting a wedding and I let a little 6 year old look through my camera (while I held it) and later the preacher came up to me and he said that is the only time he had seen a photographer do that. So kindness is always a good trait.
    As someone else mentioned, you are getting a bit better being in front of the camera.

      I understand that this is a small industry and a tough one to break into - so there is natural some territorial disputes - but it's no excuse for some people being straight up arse-holish. But I always feel more often than not, what goes around eventually comes around...

    You are looking more comfortable with each video. You do a great job of sharing with those looking into shooting sports. I always enjoy listening to other photographers that are successful in what I love shooting. Networking for sure has always been a focus for me. You can't say enough about being kind and treating other photographers with respect. There can always be negative people wherever you go and I've run into several whose egos can't handle others around them. The key is to love what you do and to be open to listening and to pass on your knowledge

      Hi Robert! Well as I said in a previous video, practice makes perfect so maybe I am getting more comfy on the other side of the camera too! Yes, it's so easy to treat people with respect, it is truly astonishing how often it doesn't go both ways. But it definitely doesn't go un-noticed. Thanks for watching!

      Hey Tel, thanks for watching! Two photogs that I work with are over 65, and they are still going on strong! That said, you are right, a lot of skills we pick up in the sports world are transferable to all photography. Thanks again for the support!

    Hi Jerry
    I joined your page in just 2 weeks and I almost finished all of your videos. I just finished shooting MS basketball and following your advices - 3 rules and how to shoot basketball. My result is much better than what I had been shooting all these years. Thank you!
    Not to change the subject, can you do football and volleyball ? I do need improvement on football.
    Also when possible, track and field too.
    Thanks a million!

      Hi Anthony, I am thrilled to hear that! I have gotten numerous requests following my "best photo positions" video for basketball and baseball. I will definitely plan on football (both "football" and "American football") and perhaps some volleyball. I unfortunately don't have much experience with athletics so I wouldn't feel comfortable making a video on that particular topic. Thanks for watching!

    Really enjoying your vids .I find track cycling hardest to shoot usually crap lighting high speeds and short focus time with the track side barriers. But getting there thanks for the tips

    • @JerryTLai
      @JerryTLai  3 года назад +1

      Hey Paul, thanks for watching. Track cycling is HARD! I have shot that only once and it was indeed difficult due to fast movement AND very bad lighting and backgrounds. You'll see a lot of "panning" photos using slow shutter speeds for track cycling to try to counter those problems.

    I really enjoy your channel and look forward to new episodes. I'm a sport photographer, 4 yrs experience with high schools and recently got a press pass for local newspaper which I have to say, opened so many doors and venues. Lighting as you pointed out, is an issue. I use Nikon D5 with 120-300 2.8 and 200-400 f4 and find my iso ranging from 8000- 16000. And some of those high iso shots look fairly good if not cropped, Topaz Denoise for extreme editing on shots I really need to show. I just had a "light bulb" moment, when shooting a batter standing in the box, waiting for the pitch, why shoot at ( auto iso ) 1250-1600? I tried zipping my shutter to 1/400, I get a cleaner shot, then quickly go back to high shutter speed. What is that...two stops. Does that sound right? Thanks for sharing your experience. Ted in Sebastian, Fl.

      I've not had first hand with Topaz, but I saw them at a trade show and the software does look impressive. When I first started, oh man, those cameras were horrible above 1600 ISO so the days of 1/400 shutter were a long time ago. But definitely a trick in the bag if you are desperate for it. You are right, if you are quick enough or have preprogrammed buttons, you can definitely set lower shutter/ISO for players in their stance pre-snap or pre-pitch. That is a great tip. Cheers and thanks for watching!

    Great video. But needs transitions between shots. But the content is good. No hard transitions.

    • @JerryTLai
      @JerryTLai  3 года назад

      Appreciate that suggestion. I did a quick fade between sections but maybe a longer / more obvious transition would be helpful. Still getting a feel for what works with video and what doesn't, so I appreciate that feedback!
