Just did this hike yesterday with my husband. Almost made iy to the top in time to see the Stealth B-2 Bombers. Snow and ice trails at top made descending difficult. I twisted my right knee on ice at the top. Made it to the stream near bottom in the dark and awful pain. Eventually got out safely. Thank God! Over all experience... nice hike, not much traffic, needs some clearing of brush, beautiful views. But start out early, make sure you have good hiking boots, extra clothing, gloves, beanies for head and poles and a flashlight. *Thanks for the video*

Videos are great and the gpx file is extremely helpful! I just did this to prepare for Whitney, just under 4 hours. I would not that after the rainy season, many sections are very overgrown, bordering on impassable. I still made it and had fun.

Awesome, well documented video!! Looks like a very scenic climb and descent. I can't wain until winter to hike Lukens. I would never do it in summer because I hate heat. But a clear winter day would be impeccable! I am glad you have a new post for us!

Yea, winter is a great time for this one. If you do it in the summer, leave really early so that you're wrapped before noon.

I did this hike today. Missed the post at 9:20 to Rim of the Valley Trail, and ended up at Haines Debris Basin, but that was my mistake. Very good hike overall.

Nice, yea, it's a really underrated hike, especially with everyone focusing on the 6-pack. And that's an easy turn to miss. On my first hike here I missed it too. Easy when you're cruising downhill.

Just did this for the third time today .. In no way could you couldn't say this trail doesn't suck especially when the 4 times I've done it, it's been almost worthless due to cloud clover. I'm done with the front part of the San Gabriels..Do you have any doable hikes up in the ANF that aren't ordered closed until April 2022?

Is this trail safe and wide enough to hike with your dog?
