The title should be: The new pro European liberal-democratic government gets rid of old conservative government in a communistic manner who tried to keep Poland independent. It's worth noting under conservative government Poland was on track becoming European power player the economy still grew during the pandemic crisis and then energy crisis as only country in Europe and for the first time Poland is in G20. Unfortunately the conservative government was not compatible with European Union centralization of liberal-democratic states and perhaps Poland becoming European power player is not such a great idea for their western European 'friends' especially the neighbour.
@@ak5659 Nonsense. The EU lacks democratic legitimacy. It is a mainly bureaucratic institution in which heads of state - the executive power- have too much power. And the EU disregards its own standards: Half of member states regularly break the Maastricht criteria.

Poland's new leadership is democratic and 100% legitimate. What is happening here is the conviction of 2 ex-ministers for abuse of their position as far as I'm aware
The new gov was elected in October but got to form a government only a month ago. They represent over 50% of populations will with the highest voter turnout in Polish history. An no there was no election fraud, and no we don’t use machines to count votes. The current gov was campaigning on doing exactly that, arresting crooks who abused power while in office, including spying on then position parties who now form a government. Hope that helps.
This is very long strony. It concerns cases from before 2007. They were convicted about 9 years ago, but the president used the power of pardon (prematurely, and therefore incorrectly). As convicted of a crime, they cannot be members of parliament - this is Polish law. They forged documents and tried to frame the deputy prime minister of their government in a scandal aimed at arresting deputy prime minister Andrzej Lepper (he unexpectedly committed suicide a few years ago) and taking over Lepper's MPs. These are very, very bad people and a two-year prison sentence is still light. I would like to point out that they will probably soon be held responsible for the wiretapping scandal against the opposition and citizens - the Sejm investigative committee is working on it.

Yeah, the EU is pretty big on pesky things like civil rights and separation of powers. The PiS? Not so much.
