  • Canadian Car & Foundry Brill CD-52-TC. Built in 1957.
The only two known surviving examples.
The engine is a British AEC AH-690 underfloor.
Transmission is a Spicer two speed Automatic. Torque converter and direct.
These are various clips of 3404 and 3405 taken from as early as 2008.
These were some of the last CCF Brills bought for Vancouver of this body style. 12 in 1957 and 6 more in 1958.
Like the Brill Trolleys the Diesel versions went through different owners.
1957 BC Electric as M404 and M405, 1962 BC Hydro renumbered to #3404 and #3405, 1973 Urban Transit Authority same numbers.
In 1977 the Diesel Brills were withdrawn from service and a few were used as shopper specials around downtown Vancouver between the major shopping centers until 1983. 3404 and 3405 were sold to the Victoria Electric Railway Association and restored to their earlier liveries of BC Electric on 3405 and BC Hydro on 3404. In 1999 the Brill Diesels were transferred
    to the Transit Museum Society.
In the final clips of 3404 the muffler was removed because of it sitting to low at the rear due to a mounting error. This had to be done to put it on a landol trailer to move and park it offsite in the recent shop move.
The last clip is of 3405 with Harry Vagg at the wheel on his last time driving a bus before he passed away at the end of 2019. He is greatly missed.
There are times when these buses smoke while under load. AEC engines were known for this. The GM's of the same era could be tuned to minimize this, but the AEC engine were a bit more difficult to lessen the smoke.
Some of our other buses appear on some clips. These include
1937 Hayes Anderson Teardrop 63 in the background
    1964 GM TDH-4519, 4612,
1976 Flyer E800 converted to diesel, 1109. Later seen as 2649,
    1982 GM T6H-5307N, 4107,
1982 Flyer D901A, 3334 parked in the background,
and the part of the rear of a 1990 MCI Classic 4276.
