A year later I am watching this and I am so glad I found this particular postcard video, they look excellent & interesting. I liked the look of the clear stencil bringing out the background of the card. I think this would work really well also with the sort of technicolor postcards from the 50s,60s and 70s🥰🙏
Luise, I just adore every one of these old post cards! I have a box full of them and some are real 'dogs'! So yea, now I know what I can do to them and actually use them! I use a lot of Stabillo for outline and shading in my work. But, personally, I think these all look great without the dark outlines. And I agree, it could be because of the lighter backgrounds you have used! TFS
I love this, Luise! You are so bold and enthusiastic in your work and have so many interesting ideas, I can't wait to dig out some old photos and have a go. And if my boldness doesn't look so good, it doesn't matter. I can always cover it over with something else. I love the liberation of arty junk journaling and the fact that there's never anything lost, only learned. Thank you for your inspiration : ) x
Gosh this is amazing Manuela! You would never know how those photos started out, you used such great techniques altogether and created some mini masterpieces with them! Brilliant! 🙂🦋💕
I love your idea. I’m reading the Discovery of Witches books again. Diana, the main character, is looking for an ancient, mysterious book that contains a palimpsest. The palimpsest has a second layer of words painted/printed over another. I think your postcards are palimpsests because there is something under the top layers we can’t understand. I think this is creepy, mysterious and cool for Halloween. Just really wonderful! And creepy. 🎃
Awesome! I'm planning on using old family photos for paper dolls. and a black and white calendar so this is brilliant😁. Love autumn and the misty mornings 💖. Messy fingers is a must! Always love mushrooms 😍I love Barbara and her digitals, thank you for the discount! It does look 3d because of the gesso but do like shadows too. A flower press is good for flattening but the creases are great too. Will be catching up with Instagram later. Tfs and have a great day 💖💖
You are so clever and creative! These cards came out soo cool and fun! Must try it, even if I dont have any printer, I will look in old books with mushrooms and old monocrome photos. 👌
You could always take your digital images or pictures to a local office supply store and have them print for you period that's what I do most of the time.💕
Hello Luise, love this project. I have sooooo many vintage postcards, I was going to actually throw them out in the recycling bin, UNTIL today. I am going to try this technique. Love the vintagy feeling that they have and I think that the white splatter looks super cute. I also liked how you used the wet wipe and the oxide and stensil, so clever. Thank you for inspiring me to try something new. Blessings and hugs as always from Cape Town. Diana 😃🦊🦊
I just watched this because I have a lot of boring postcards and after watching your video, I can't wait to try your methods! Thank you for the inspiration!❤
I agree with you on the whole dimensional thing. They look good as is because of the Gesso I think also. These are so great. I am going to Goodwill tomorrow and get old photos and postcards. Thanks for this great project.
This is a very creative way to use photos. Just want to mention that photo postcards are highly collectible, I've sold some for over $100. You could get a lot of supplies for that! Do please check to see if they are valuable. A couple you used looked quite interesting.
I think if you would have shadowed the mushrooms they would have become the focal point of the picture taking away from the background and gesso. Another idea to put on my 'to do' list!
Great use of some recyclable ugly post cards. I have a large collection and now they will find a new purpose. I liked the white paint splatter first, secondly the use of the wet wipe. Thank you for sharing your ideas.
I think this is a first, you used the digitalis from 49 dragonflies and didn’t tear a single one! I really love this idea and agree that the gesso and oxides gave a very dimensional look to the cards. I just love watching you create!
I just bought a bag of ugly old postcards from a second hand store. All are from Italy. For sure I will be using sandpaper and white gesso on these!! Thank you for this great idea. I was ready to toss a few of these cards, especially of the statues. Good timing 😊 You are so CREATIVE! 💕 from jm in Canada
Oh, I love these, Luise!! I love what you come up with when you use your favorite distress oxides. These are just transformed to awesome art pieces. Thanks so much for sharing this project. Barbara’s mushrooms are great.
