I have to say, the self-preservation was none-existant. Who walks TOWARDS something that growls, in the middle of the night to boot. I remember walking on an old stone wall when I was younger and hearing a snake hiss, I didn't even see where it was, but the adrenaline that shot through my body made me jump back and dash down the road I came from. Twice have I heard something I assume was a boar, and neither time did I think "I'm gonna check that out." No I turned around and promptly walked back. I have no idea if it was actually boars, but the heavy sound of branches snapping told my body to not fuck around and just go back.
