After not finding the eques for months for a tetra community, I got beckfordi- and love them. A few weeks in and they are spawning, which is really fun to watch! I was about to do a big plant trim, but they are spawning in the overgrown plants :)
I actually went to get a different tetra but the employee heard me wrong and I got 12 pencil fish, I didn’t want to correct her after she bagged them up for me so I just said thanks and went home with these random fish I didn’t actually want. Fast forward half a year and they are my FAVORITE FISH EVER. I have them in a 20 gallon with my corys so I have fish at the bottom and fish at the top, and they are so much more interactive and curious than I thought they would be! When I come up to the tank they all get close to the glass and I have to boop each one of them one by one and they swim back one by one as my finger touches the glass where they’re waiting for their boop lol. They’re very smart! My corys are just goofy and swim like crazy all over the place and are chill and happy but there’s not much interaction with me, whereas my pencil fish will follow me from one end of the tank to the other while I go around the room. and they’re the “boring” colored ones BUT in a tank with lots of greenery they actually stand out nicely! I really do think they are the best choice, I’m glad the employee gave me the wrong fish lol
From one channel nerm to another I definitely like how you change the outro music. It adds a little bit of spunk to your videos. Great video as always :)
*MY ALL TIME FAVORITE FISH!!!!!!!* its like having a tetra with the personality of a dwarf cichlid beckfords are my personal favorite feel like they are a good in-between, between the coral reds and espei👌
I have pencilfish and I love them! They are curious, brave, hardy, active fish! Can someone please advice if they could get along with zebra danios? Both species spend time on the top layers of the aquarium and I worry if they would compete.
I just picked some beckfords up today without realizing two of the six I got are actually brown pencil fish. I guess I’m gonna have to be on the lookout for more.
I love pencilfish but I've never had any. When I lived in Portland I really wanted to get into them but I had to move before I ever had a chance to. I'd still like to try them out but they just don't exist in the Phoenix area....
My Beckford pencilfish are the only fish I’ve ever owned that got tuberculosis (from what I researched, that’s what it was due to the bent spine). I got them from Petco, a school of 6 about two years ago. I’m down to my last one that in the last couple days has gotten that telltale curved spine. :(
I have the same question. I had three in a cherry shrimp in planted tank. Never saw them attack a female. Did see number of shrimplets and then it was harder to spot them so I took them out I do have two Kuhli Loaches in there too, so it may be them. They are more difficult to catch, so they are next.
Was looking for a schooling fish for my 29 gallon. I think I wanna go with the eques cuz it looks adorable lol. Also want to have khuli loaches, a bushy nose pleco, and a Dwarf Gourami. Wanted an angelfish too, but I dont know if it's safe for the eques pencilfish once it gets big.

How are First bites for feeding? Thanks Corey
I’m surprised at how cool the golden pencilfish are, love their colours and hummingbird movement.
It looks like I found a new fish to try. Thanks for keeping the hobby interesting & enjoyable. 👍
Been breeding these fish for a while now. Specifically the beckfordii pencils. They are a joy to take care of and are fairly easy to spawn
My pencilfish school with my Pygmy corys - not sure who is confused but it is very cool
Looking forward to watching this on my lunch break later!!
That aquarium rack in the background is so calming. I really need to find something like that to for my zoom meetings 🤔😂
Thank you for all the content. I can tell you guys have got the buzz again

I like how they look like a alligator gar just smaller
I feed my eques the co-op easy fry food, and frozen baby brine. They do pretty well on that.
Just got pencils and the love the krill flake great Info
Thanks for the video Cory! I'm currently trying to breed the Goldens in a 20. Stunning fish especially with my Ember tetras
Been waiting for my LFS to get some in for awhile!
Thanks for the great information 😊
I have the beckfords and they have quickly become one of my favourite fish. Especially keeping them with dwarf cichlids!
Very cool! You showed me some pencil fish, I never knew existed! Thanks!!
Aquarium Co-Op is the best :)
So am i
Might have to put this group of fish on my short list of fish to own someday.

Great looking fish I’m tempted when I get another tank.
Dew it and your transformation to the dark side will be complete
Getting a few today!
I love the Coral Pencil Fish.
Great educational video as always, thanks Cory!
Awesome information, more confident to try them
Always great information and videos. 🐟🌿👍😊🎃
Pencilfish are my favorite!
Glad this came out looking into them!
Love these types of clips
Amazing video!! Those eques pencil fish sound similar to penguin tetras in that both swim weirdly
Always great info

I would love a second tank with pencilfish. Beautiful creatures 🥰

These guys look great in near every planted tank. I have bred the eques variety, but haven't been able to breed the coral reds.
thanks for the always great informational videos 🔥🙏👍
Very nice looking fish.
Cool. Why wasn’t this on the main channel tho?
Species profiles don't do that well, so they are on the second channel.
@@AquariumCoop2 Yeah, that's why the 11 commercials... Thank God for AD BLOCKER!!!
@@matthewwarfield4302 those are time stamps man. Get with the times.
@@AquariumCoop2 can you please cover limias? They're great!
Awesome little fish!
Hey Cory, any tips for keeping bloodfin tetras
I can never find these at my LFS. I definitely want to get a some. I'll have to see if they can order me some.
I wish my lfs carried these guys. They are cute little mini weirdos.
They are awesome
Hmmm.. might be something I might look into for a new setup.

Would love to give it a shot breeding some of these
If I ever collect in the wild a school of 30 is coming back with me maybe even 50. I have not kept these guys yet maybe my next set of small fish.
They are surprisingly aggressive when in spanning mode.
Just fell in love with these. Does anyone keep them in a heavily planted 10gallon tank with Neocaridina shrimps?
I have the same question. I had three in a cherry shrimp in planted tank. Never saw them attack a female. Did see number of shrimplets and then it was harder to spot them so I took them out I do have two Kuhli Loaches in there too, so it may be them. They are more difficult to catch, so they are next.
Why don’t more lfs carry these? How difficult are they to breed?
I have eques and they are awesome.
Yay pencilfish!
I loved the N. eques whe I had them. But not very easy to feed, they were very shy.
Anyone know how to remain disciplined when visited the LFS? I come home with a new buddy every time!
Yes. Leave your debit/credit card at home and cash as well
Limit your tank numbers and size. (Assuming you won't overstock)
I'm looking for small fish not fin nibler. To keep with my betta in a 10 gallon. Any Idea?

Thank Cory grate video

I'd love a tank of these bad boys one day!
Love me some pencil fish

THANK YOU FROM ISRAEL :)
I cannot find any sellers in Australia >:(
Anyone got a good place to order online ? For Texas area i can’t locate nanostoma beckfordi
Challenging to breed or impossible?
I'm on the fence about pencilfish. Maybe I just haven't seen a pretty one in person.
Clearly not seen them otherwise you wouldn't say such garbage
I appreciate you, wannt be youtube friends?
Yea
Obviously the solution is more tanks
And next week........the sharpener fish
I just see my pencilfish scavenging at the bottom tank
Real characters, mine can be territorial and some charge at and poke and nip my black neons and cardinals
I'm not getting it then.
I am the first? Cool beans!
It looks like I found a new fish to try. Thanks for keeping the hobby interesting & enjoyable. 👍
