- 2022 marks the 42nd annual celebration of “September is Black Reading Month.”
The annual observance encourages members of the Black community to read books,
magazines and journals written by Black authors as a way of deepening our understanding of our history, culture and the wisdom that has evolved from that culture. The idea is to develop a habit during September that will carry on through the rest of the year.
For the third year Malik Yakini, one of the co-founders of Black Reading Month will present a weekly series of Author Talks in which important Black authors will be interviewed about their craft, challenges, aspirations and insights. This year the Author Talks on September 14th and 28th will be hosted by scholar/activist Michael Simanga, Ph.D.
