I'm from San Marino! Thank you for making a really good video about my country! You did a good job explaining most of his history. Actually I didn't know 15% of the historic facts that you said, so you are clearly more passionate in our history than an actual sammarinese, thank you again for this video!
San Marino is the oldest continuous republic in the whole world. Actually the governmental structure with the general council and two elected heads of state are modelled after the senate and two consuls of the ancient Roman Republic. San Marino, due to its size, holds also quite a few world records. For example it is the smallest country in the world that has won an Olympic medal (actually multiple Olympic medals).
It's insane how it's one of the oldest nations in the world that survived over 2000 years mostly alone. Italy and it's past could of easily absorbed it. This nation had a possibility to not see the light of day and become a mostly lost and forgotten nation from the Middle Ages. Now it's known as the country with the worst football team and apart of the UN . If the founder of the Nation saw that it still exists to this day and all other European nations from the time are gone then he shall be proud
I question the beginning when he says that a wandering bishop or priest built a monastery on the site…it’s hard to believe how he was able to bring that about!
Given the large number of Western European micro-states that have perished throughout history, the continued existence of San Marino, Monaco, Liechtenstein, and Andorra probably has more to do with luck than skill.
Liechtenstein as nation is pretty young; with HRE gone austria could not claim it for the new austrian empire an so it was a leftover Andorra is old as eff too; it was founded by Charlemagne
San Marino is one of my favourite respective nations ever and a fascinating history of the country, good friends!!!I am fully hoping to visit there in future and LONG LIVE SAN MARINO!!!🇸🇲
Interesting! When I was a teenager( a very long time ago!), I learned about the existence of San Marino while studying maps and travel information about Europe. I love geography and travel, and I took a month-long tour of Western Europe during the summer between my junior and senior years of high school. I was surprised to learn that there were several independent micro states in Europe including San Marino. It definitely has an unusual location by being at a high elevation, landlocked, and completely surrounded by Italy. Undoubtedly, it is likely hard to get to. And of course, being such a tiny country in an isolated area means most people never hear about it in general. We learn something new everyday! What I just learned from watching this video is how and why San Marino exists.
