Strange Sony Subwoofer Driver Test

- A very interesting subwoofer driver made by Sony. It has two massive voice coils on separate ends of the former, and two spiders. While the mechanical noise is quite high, this is to be expected given how small the vent on the back is, and is inaudible in the enclosure.

I really love when drivers have weird design. This one is the best in that category!
ciro589m but where does it come from
@@arhahugo7100 Sony SA-WD100 (has 1 of them in it) and Sony SA-WD200 (has 2 of them in it)
@@RWL2012 thank you very much
They’re quite ugly and if I had one I would blow it
@@ZicZian same but isn't cool to have a wierd looking driver-speaker?
Can you do a test of them in the box reckon that'll be interesting! Great video lovely speakers where can I find?
Very interesting never saw that before
Beautiful! Looks somewhat similar to the midbass driver in B&W nautilus speakers
This is my favorit driver ! I hope to find one like this one day
Sony SA-WD100 and SA-WD200
Ha, that thing is great! Nice design idea. Also I love how the sadness and sorrow gets used around a fair bit!
barevids hey Sam! Great to see you stop by. I've admired your channel for many years. Also impressed by how far your rebasses have been spread!
WdB thank you man! your videos are really cool! and I didn't realise since I uploaded it to bp channel and never check it and holy fuck 100k views outta nowhere!
the built in 250W ICEpower amp in the SA-WD200 is not fit for purpose - mine has started cutting out after a few secs. OK it's 16 years old but it's just being put under too much strain by those drivers. The box also has port noise... I'm going to make a box (I was thinking around 0.5 cu ft, but I since saw that the Vas is 0.03 cu ft per driver - is it really that low?!) with a 3" tube port flared at both ends tuned to around 42Hz with a BK BSBPV500 in the back which should give the subs the power they deserve to go with the box they deserve :)
Looks like some kind of isobarik design :O Interesting indeed
Very interesting woofer design and seems to play well . Would love to have 4" coils on my mids
Hi, I just recently found your channel and so far I’m enjoying it, over the weekend i ordered a lepy amp and it should be here tomorrow, I know you own one of these mini amps so I was wondering if I could hook up a Samsung home theater sub to both channels for more power, would that work? Thanks
engineering beauty
I've never seen something like that, it looks gorgeous! That's a shame that they got damaged during shipping ; ~;
Does it have a permanant magnet or does it have a second fixed coil that the moving voice coil interacts with?
It would no doubt be very good in a transmission line.
Do anyone know the name / model of this driver?
Is it normal for subwoofer driver to vibrate even at normal volume? I can see some vibration from my subwoofer when playing loud bass?
Interesting design.
When I see the under of the sub, I like
whatthehell
Is it loud?
Do you ever measure vas? I'm guessing it needs a known weight attached to the moving mass, but haven't looked at how it's done for ages :)
Rennie Ash yeah, did you watch the bit about T/S parameters near the end? Vas measured to be 0.94 liters
WdB sorry I read the wrong parameter lol. Do you have to add weight or is it measured with the rest of the parameters? I got a DATS recently but haven't used it yet :)
ITS AN UPSCALED AURASOUND NS2! :O XD no srsly.... was my first thought about it.... it looks exaclty like it just upscaled and 3d printed.... lol....
Dude i was legit playing this song right when i hit this video
Got that Naruto song playin brings back good memories and the old times when life was good
Infinity Reference in a backround?
Hier treibst du dich herum!!!✌🏻✌🏻

Como conseguir essa música
Where can I find these
Mark Cannady typing Sony SA-WD200 and SA-WD100 into a search is a good start :)
Edge driven dome; like a tweeter.
Had one of those...wish i could get another, i sold that one for 35 bucks all in
It’s like the dome tweeter, but bigger😂
Que canción es esa 🤔🤔
I wonder what that driver would be like in a horn subwoofer.
I was searching for 5,25 inch driver witch can handle more than 80w and thats the one i think
What's this used in? Model number?
Also wannna know
SA-WD200 and SA-WD100 (twin and single driver versions respectively)
its kinda like an carpower raptor
4 inch NANI?!
song ?
Naruto Soundtrack- Sadness and Sorrow
Sadness and sorrow but it's the BP rebass version
wow, and then I thought my (8) 8" Xplod P5 setup was unique :)
RWL2012 imagine 10 these in a sq car system
Chase Leim 10 5.25" SA-WD100/200 drivers? :)
Yes
Chase Leim would be pretty unique!
@@chaseleim4773 thats why i wanna know what they are!
Name songs??
Sadnes and surrow
It uses a similar dual coil - dual gap technology like JBL did with their old WGTI subwoofers.
This driver an extremely high total Q, and it has the lowest sensitivity of any driver that I have ever seen.
Corrado VRz indeed! Similar to Paradigm concept loudspeakers too
Regular Guy Audio it's due to the insanely high moving mass
Indeed, that is a very heavy mms for such a small driver.
Corrado VRz I've seen a driver with Qms of 11, but I can't remember what it is. I'll try and find it again!
Qms is the mechanical Q of the driver, Qes is the electrical Q and Qts is the total Q. A high Qms is good (it's better for low level detail and don't require a ton of power to sound good), but high Qes and Qts isn't good and will require a much larger box for a given flat response. I prefer drivers with a Qts between 0.35 - 0.45 or as close to it as possible and Qms above 4.
deadmau5 :))
La canción como se llama?
Not very sensitive though
No, not at all! That's why it is paired with a 250 watt amplifier!
Well 70 db spl is extremely low considering that your average subwoofer ranges between 85-90. Interesting design though!
-SakiSkai- mainly pro audio subwoofers with sensitivity that high. Although my Tymphany STW is 87dB efficient and that driver has over half a kilo of moving mass
Nice woofer ^.-.^ xD
I would've looked better if the dustcap was flat ._.
Batemen as you see in the cut away photo, it needs to be rounded to give clearance for the excursion.
Weird that the noise is audible in the box most drivers aren’t like that
Isaac's Tech the noise isn't audible in the box though?
WdB I misread the description lol
It looks like the bottom spider is detached, but it might just be the frequency.
No, you're probably just not getting the design - look closely at the cutaway diagram. The spider attaches inside the frame and also to the black plastic ring as part of the voice coil
68dB/w @1m is appalling efficency.
Weareallbeingwatched it's not that great
That's a passive radiator I'm pretty sure. With a sub at the bottom.
I can assure you, it isn't. Did you look at the cut-away image?
Looks like an dome tweeter and are very bizarre.. and what are thar prrrrrr?? Plastic sound
Don't destroy him get creative and build a Box warm in using your probly sound better than any O speaker
Can't hear a damn thing
Eric Salyer turn your volume up then. That's what it's for.
Sony is th best jbl bad
