  • I'll teach you how I DIY'd my own canvas backgrounds painting with a broom! I walk you through how I painted my 5th background, and cover the tools and tips I have learned over the years to make a beautiful high quality canvas photo backdrop.
    Materials I suggest using:
    -Pre-primed rolled canvas like this one: (www.dickblick.com/products/bl...)
    -Matte paint (House paint like Behr, or flat ceiling paint - just stay away from semi gloss/gloss paints!)
    -a broom and a plastic paint mixing tray
    -tarp, tape, or staples to secure the background to the floor while painting

    • @BrandiNicolePhoto

    Excellent! So if I wanted to, I could use matt house paint regardless of colour?

    • @BrandiNicolePhoto
      @BrandiNicolePhoto  2 года назад

      You absolutely could!!! It does tend to dry a little more firm in my experience so keep the coats light or rolling it up is a little difficult. I would recommend trying to paint it if it’s stretched and stapled down first. :)

    Have you ever tried using calico?
    The material is a bit cheaper, and lighter too. I just purchased a 2nd hand frame that is quite light, so I'm not looking to use canvas, it might be too heavy once painted.

    Just went to Home Depot for supplies! Two questions, if I bought white primed canvas should I still molt with white in order to get the gray backdrop behind you? Also can you paint both sides of a canvas? Like do one side one color and the other side another?

    • @BrandiNicolePhoto
      @BrandiNicolePhoto  3 года назад

      You can paint both sides!! It shouldn’t bleed into the other side; but I would keep both sides relatively light colors/coats of paint so it’s not too heavy? Very curious how this turns out you gotta let me know! :D and also I definitely recommend mixing with white to get the slightly lighter tones mixed in with the grey

  • @brandiblake1473
    @brandiblake1473 3 года назад +1

    What size canvas do you order? The link you shared shows yards, so would 2 yards be large enough for at least 3/4 shots?

    • @BrandiNicolePhoto
      @BrandiNicolePhoto  3 года назад

      It would be quite a small working area but that should work in a pinch!! I’m guess you’re fabric is 1 x 2 yards and so it would be 3ft x 6ft and super skinny,
      But if you lean a model next to it very close you should be able to make it work! They make rolled canvas that is a a little wider, I would try to go for that so you can have a larger working area :)
