Windchime I think this song is addressing dark skin and the bleaching problem in our black communities not hair choice. Be happy that she is addressing an important issue in her country. Message well heard Spice!👏🏿👏🏿
They need to come out with a song like this in Asia. You have a whole group of dark skin East Asians unable to work because preference is given to the whiter skinned ones. All the white skinned asian women are working in the malls while the darker ones are are not being hired, then they go to white men in hopes to get a visa, claiming that finding work there is hard when really the issue is a colorism issue in their communities espeically in the Philppines. What white people often find attractive is not what blacks or asians find attractive within their communities. A lot of asians also whiten their skin in their pictures. At least in Jamaica people are not being denied jobs if they are dark skinned like lupita nyong'o complexion, its more of a social issue. Asians really need self healing going on more so then blacks. I will never understand why someone would prefer to be pale white and burn in the sun but at the same time I can appreciate white peoples beauty but white skin only looks good on whites not other races unless they are mixed with white. At least if you're dark and pretty you will always look beautiful and young longer then any other race and your natural complexion will always be blemish free, no need to wear makeup. Dark skin women are beautiful and very lucky. Once your complexion is brown skin, light skin or white skin, blemishes show up more on your skin and more prone to uneven skin etc. I would love to have darker skin tbh. Lupita nyong'o is lucky
It's also nice to see that Maxwell has a new song out deticated to Dark Skinned women and their beauty. It's called "Shame". I'm not dark skinned ,but i love it and think that dark skin is beautiful.
Matt Petersen it’s naive to group everyone into one group, god knows that some of us just don’t give a fuck, some of us care, some of us are evil, but that can be applied to any group of people.
Most black woman can relate to this...even among our Black selves we are selective of "which" black is beautiful. They prefer lighter black women "yellow bone as they call them. Colorism must fall.

Do not let these self-hating men/women and boys/girls deprive you of your beautiful blackness. Stand in you blackness and stand PROUD!! The sun loves you and God loves you even more to make you such a beautiful color. No matter what shade you are, you don’t need to bleach your skin to become lighter. Sade Hannah She does not need to highlight any specific group within the black community because everyone does it, whether knowingly or unknowingly. There is nothing to gain by saying “this group perpetrates colorism more.” All that ends up being is a blaming contest. Colorism is bad no matter the group that uses it and individuals need to be self aware to see where their prejudice lies.

I wonder how many public apologies she'll receive!! Everyone was so quick to run make a vlog saying she hate herself and this song proves why this song was necessary! Big up urself Spice ❤❤
Even if someone did say these things what does it matter. She have to be comfortable with herself. This don't have anything to do with how others view her. She have to be stronger than that.
As a mixed sister i know i have never and will never disrespect my dark sisters you are amazingly beautiful and you are my sisters forever and i will be forever grateful for the work and love you put in everyday 😘😘🖤
The root of it is white supremacy however because our condition has been conditioned, self-hate is on autopilot; We do it to ourselves now. Fight hatred with awareness and love ❤❤❤.
@@elev8te If black people continue to blame others for their thinking and behaviour, including how they feel about their own physical features, then it shows how mentally feeble they continue to be so many years after slavery was abolished.
It's sad. But white people dont hate black people as much as black people hate themselves. That's sad! It's a fact! We cant ever get ahead. Because we dont stick together. Hope this opens people eyes to what's going on.
@@janetcousins7250 that "feeling" is a regurgitation of what was learned and enforced through violence during slavery...it isn't about blaming it is about understanding where the ideology comes from and educating black ppl on how to not reinforce that ideology of white supremacy.

Speaking about relevant issues. I know quality content don't make money Nowadays but thanks spice for coming through and making a quality song representing us dark skin women
KERR C it’s not from people bleaching. People bleaching will stop bleaching when they see this. The dislikes are from the dark skin black men telling dark skin women that they’re ugly and they prefer light lol
I'm listening to this song with tears in my eyes😢 Spice I feel this song to the depths of my soul. I can relate to every word in dis song. What I heard growing up as a little girl going to school all I can hear was gal yu 2 black, if u were lighter u would be prettier. hey gal u black like tar. I heard it all. Spice thank you for this beautiful, powerful song. This is what our little black girls need to hear. I love it. ❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍☺☺☺
I feel like people aren’t getting it enough. My grandmother is Jamaican. So is my grandfather. I didn’t notice it back then, but colorism IS DEEPLY engrained in the Caribbean. My grandmother didn’t like the sun despite being dark skinned herself and anytime I would play in the pool she would tell me when I played in the water for too long to get out. And when I got darker due to the sun she said I got too black. Colorism is DEEP in Jamaica. Has been for generations. So for the Queen Spice to come out and say something like this??? This is powerful shit I wish I had when I was a kid because I felt insecure in my dark skin. I thought I wasn’t light or pretty enough. Spice really did that
Starfire10982 Now it’s Caribbean vs the rest of the world all this crap came from somewhere and it certainly didn’t start in the Caribbean. It’s in every society. It’s only appears to be more deeply entrenched in the Caribbean because the larger population is black. I also find the classism is often confused for colourism The Caribbean is more i of a classism than colorism. It’s sad but true. We need to work on ourselves. Stop the division amongst ourselves. This is one of the reasons some blacks are easily attracted to white people. It’s the subconscious default, a result caused by the rejection from our own kind perpetrated by whites. It The abused going back to their abusers.
I feel terrible for Blacks who grew up with no self confidence. I had too much I guess, no wonder most girls especially black ones didn’t like me. Never phased me I had a family of extremely strong determined and proud women to look up to with admiration. Top of my list of women however is the Jamaican National hero is Nanny. Black, strong and smart. Jamaica would possibly still be enslaved if it wasn’t for her. She never kissed anyone’s ass to get what she needed, she worked hard with her thinking faculties. I wish loads of us were like her. If you look in the mirror and despite the imperfections you can say I’m beautiful then that’s sad. Self love conquers all. One love people.
To attest to the point you are making. I was in the British Army and almost all the Jamaican guys in my Regiment would go out or marry a white woman instead of a Black woman. I went to a beach one day with my kids and this old Jamaican woman came up to me and said "your kids are pretty but you are too dark" jokingly. I am an African and I respect the elderly so I kept my cool.
The best black hypocrisy message out there. Thank you for this one. Our fellow black sisters and the rest of the world needed to hear this. SO PROUD!!!!!
They will not support the content and ingredient in this beautiful song because you teaching our race to accept the beauty of blackness.. Preach 👑✊🏿....Spice it up Afro Melanin🔥🔥🔥🔥🙏🏿👑👑👑👑🔥
I am a white USA Midwestern man, Love this song. I was definitely not expecting this from Spice. I’ve come and watched it many times. This song gives me chills every time and I almost cry every time, the times I don’t almost cry I actually do. My fiancé is from Trinidad and this kind of dynamic is one of the main things I worry about having kids together.
Bolaji A. Right, and it even sadder OUR own fucking people the reason why it's bad. They use our skin color to separate US. And use it to determine our self value 😕 wtf raise these mofo?🤔 What school they went too? What happened in their life for them to think like that?🤔
i literally start crying because it is so true. no only for woman but for the black males as well. horrible how we destroy each other and hate to see one another succeed
Don't speak for men because I'm darker than her and had nicknames such as black, blu black, knight rider, space etc.. and it never affected me in a bad way, actually I am more popular because of my dark skinned and nicknames. I've never had problems with the women and comfortable in my skin. The problem is women are weak. It is not about skin color it is about u not being comfortable in your own skin.
Akosua Ayim your from the outside looking in. you have to realize we are all black and its hard out here for black men and all that we do including stereotyping us etc. black men battle with alot daily
As a 15 year old growing up on songs like this ...it's just soo refreshing and powerful reminding me to love my skin and support other beautiful strong black women ❤✊✊✊proud black Queen
Look at all the comments. Melanin Mommies from all over the world telling the same story. No matter the ethnicity. "I'm not light enough; my hair isn't straight." Even in the heart of Africa, colorism runs rampant. American, Middle Eastern, African, Asian, Caribbean, our melanin is gold. We absorb the sun, age gracefully, hide blemishes, and shine radiant and it's because of our Melanin. We Melanin Magic. To be honest, I've always loved my brown skin. I wish the rest of the world would too.

I’m a white girl but I love this song and video, it’s super catchy and beautiful but it also has such an important message. Self-hatred within marginalised communities really isn’t talked about enough so I’m glad this song shone some light on it❤much love and you guys are all so beautiful.
*This was DEFINITELY worth the hype. The message she is conveying is like no other. India Arie did it back in the day & now in 2018, it's about damn time someone sends a message like this*
Dark skinned women are simply stunning! Like a black stone shining in the sun. One of my all time favorite models is Alek Wek. Like a black diamond. I am a white girl. But have always thought black women have a fascinating and captivating beauty. Please don't be ashamed of your skin or anything else.. Walk tall! You are smokin hot ladies!!
ApocaLIPS Gorgeous 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 thank you for reminding them (the people that bleach) that they’re beautiful. I’m black but I’ve never quite understood the bleaching trend, but I don’t judge the people that do.
that’s racist, saying it loud for those in the back is an allusion to the bus incident. rosa parks would kick and spit at you if she wasn’t a strong black role model.
I was crying when I listened to this song - I know colorism is such a big issue in my country Madagascar and the more lighter the complexion and the straighter the hair, you are considered pretty. TAHNK YOU FOR THIS SONG SPICE
If u like this song u should listen to Biannca Bonnie from Love and hip hop new york she put a song out years ago called faith in these brownskins it should have gotten better promotion great song
This really makes no sence cause , Wether your black/white we are still a team ...but the problem is that white people think that black people are hideous ...just because black people aren't white or having straight black/Brown /white hair Look here's a little advice Check out this !👇 @Dhar Mann he has a RUclips channel .So link it out ok .... & May God Bless You Ok ❤ 🤗🤗 From Kate ❤❤
This song brought tears to my eyes because EVERY word is true! Spice hit the nail on the head with this one. We need to really fix this starting from the inside out. ALL of our shades are BEAUTIFUL especially dark skin and i love when she say do i look pretty to you? Spice you are beautiful to me in your dark skin and i LOVE the directness of this song. Very powerful message....i hope it sinks in
Agreed. We need to fix this issue that effects very few people in the hope it will make videos like this go away. The next video should be about women with bear trap fake eye lashes and pushing maximum density upset that more men don't find them attractive.
Damn I'm white but this message is so damn strong I'm in tears and I don't even face this discrimination holy shit I hope this song gets so much recognition
That’s upsetting, Black is beautiful, blacks ‘being black’ are beautiful too. Blacks ‘being white’ are beautiful too. I see no wrong way to express who you are. Others are only hurt by the way we treat each other. Let the people be whatever the people wish to be, whatever the people are
Shame on black people who hate on others for something, like skin tone. We have no control over our skin tones! I love you spice and I love your skin tone. Real talk!
TRENDING #1 in CANADA 🇨🇦 Thanks Sister for this powerful song and music video. 🖤 Ladies, please stop seeking validation from people who want you to CHANGE yourself. Go where you are loved and accepted for YOU. Hugs! XO 😍😘💋
alot of yall are saying we should love who we are and not change for anyone which is true. But here is another concept, how about we as a black community start RESPECTING DARK SKIN WOMEN.
@@johndoe6047 People? Last time I checked not everyone had to put up with comments about being "too dark" "I wish she was lighter" "dark skin is ugly" and so on. In colorism, respect is disportionate between light skin and dark skin women. By only saying "people" that's just being vague about the issue at hand.

I was raised to believe that the lighter your skin is the more opportunity you have in this world you get the better job you get the better husband you get pretty your kids.....etc. Of course I know this is not the truth. I truly hope something come out of this video because it's a very powerful message and I love love love love it does something to me physically and emotionally I am really proud of "Spice" for coming out and speaking out about this. Dis song & di video ah sah #1. Thanx Spice. 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
ken r not all these dudes...
@ken r BS. Colorism is effecting Africans as well..if they didn't, bleaching creams wouldn't be capitalized over there.
ken r Who sold Africans to America. Don't shun the people that were betrayed by their own.
@ken r Responding to hate with hate... since when did two wrongs make a right?
@ken r i dont understand how africans can give us west indians any advice about anything, you cant even eat off your own resources what you're talking about? Stop the division

You missed the point. Sad.

I wonder how many public apologies she'll receive!! Everyone was so quick to run make a vlog saying she hate herself and this song proves why this song was necessary! Big up urself Spice ❤❤
Ppl will justify themselves 😥😥😥😑😑
Even if someone did say these things what does it matter. She have to be comfortable with herself. This don't have anything to do with how others view her. She have to be stronger than that.
I think this song might be the fastest dancehall/reggae song to reach 1 million views, less than 24 hours
Yep I think so it's more in the Reggae category tho.

“Because it never come from a caucasian, trust me.” That line right there is the sum up of what hurts me the most with colorism.
Same here 😥😥😥
The root of it is white supremacy however because our condition has been conditioned, self-hate is on autopilot; We do it to ourselves now.

608 dislikes are I guess the ones that are bleaching I guess. Great work spice!!!! We need to love ourselves and our beautiful melanin popping skin
KERR C it’s not from people bleaching. People bleaching will stop bleaching when they see this. The dislikes are from the dark skin black men telling dark skin women that they’re ugly and they prefer light lol
KERR C or the ones who just hate dark skin

I'm listening to this song with tears in my eyes😢 Spice I feel this song to the depths of my soul. I can relate to every word in dis song. What I heard growing up as a little girl going to school all I can hear was gal yu 2 black, if u were lighter u would be prettier. hey gal u black like tar. I heard it all. Spice thank you for this beautiful, powerful song. This is what our little black girls need to hear. I love it. ❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍☺☺☺

I really love this song. Spice did an amazing job in getting her point across.
Spice really did that
Shades Of Blackness, distinguishable Only by those who have sight?
Wow, that is really disturbing. I never knew black people harass other black people for their skin color
The best black hypocrisy message out there. Thank you for this one. Our fellow black sisters and the rest of the world needed to hear this. SO PROUD!!!!!

Jamilah Gasper Yes my sister that is a strong message!!!!
The last sentence of your comment really made me tear up, what you said was very well put.
