Windchime I think this song is addressing dark skin and the bleaching problem in our black communities not hair choice. Be happy that she is addressing an important issue in her country. Message well heard Spice!👏🏿👏🏿

They need to come out with a song like this in Asia. You have a whole group of dark skin East Asians unable to work because preference is given to the whiter skinned ones. All the white skinned asian women are working in the malls while the darker ones are are not being hired, then they go to white men in hopes to get a visa, claiming that finding work there is hard when really the issue is a colorism issue in their communities espeically in the Philppines. What white people often find attractive is not what blacks or asians find attractive within their communities. A lot of asians also whiten their skin in their pictures. At least in Jamaica people are not being denied jobs if they are dark skinned like lupita nyong'o complexion, its more of a social issue. Asians really need self healing going on more so then blacks. I will never understand why someone would prefer to be pale white and burn in the sun but at the same time I can appreciate white peoples beauty but white skin only looks good on whites not other races unless they are mixed with white. At least if you're dark and pretty you will always look beautiful and young longer then any other race and your natural complexion will always be blemish free, no need to wear makeup. Dark skin women are beautiful and very lucky. Once your complexion is brown skin, light skin or white skin, blemishes show up more on your skin and more prone to uneven skin etc. I would love to have darker skin tbh. Lupita nyong'o is lucky

And light people like me grow up being told we have 'just the right skin tone'. I literally remember my mom and grandma telling me that when I was maybe 5 or 6, and it almost definitely led to me having internalised colourism. I know the fight against colourism should be focused on darker people, but I still wanted to mention this.

    Dear black girl,
You are so beautiful. When you came out of your mother’s womb with dark skin, or you grew up to become darker...just know that you are beautiful. Do not let these self-hating men/women and boys/girls deprive you of your beautiful blackness. Stand in you blackness and stand PROUD!! The sun loves you and God loves you even more to make you such a beautiful color. No matter what shade you are, you don’t need to bleach your skin to become lighter. You don’t need to get a nose job or any type of plastic surgery to look beautiful. God made you the way you are now because He sees that you are a MASTERPIECE😍😍👏🏾 Whoever is reading this, you are beautiful no matter what. You are loved, admired, and cherished no matter what! 👸🏽👸🏾👸🏿 The most beautiful people come from the black woman🤰🏾>>🤱🏾 Please never change who you are for anybody. If you are going through anything right now, I pray that you find healing and that God keeps his hands on your shoulders to guide you on the right path!
    Blessings to you all💕💕

I feel like people aren’t getting it enough. My grandmother is Jamaican. So is my grandfather. I didn’t notice it back then, but colorism IS DEEPLY engrained in the Caribbean. My grandmother didn’t like the sun despite being dark skinned herself and anytime I would play in the pool she would tell me when I played in the water for too long to get out. And when I got darker due to the sun she said I got too black. Colorism is DEEP in Jamaica. Has been for generations. So for the Queen Spice to come out and say something like this??? This is powerful shit I wish I had when I was a kid because I felt insecure in my dark skin. I thought I wasn’t light or pretty enough.
    Spice really did that

Starfire10982 Now it’s Caribbean vs the rest of the world all this crap came from somewhere and it certainly didn’t start in the Caribbean. It’s in every society. It’s only appears to be more deeply entrenched in the Caribbean because the larger population is black. I also find the classism is often confused for colourism The Caribbean is more i of a classism than colorism. It’s sad but true. We need to work on ourselves. Stop the division amongst ourselves. This is one of the reasons some blacks are easily attracted to white people. It’s the subconscious default, a result caused by the rejection from our own kind perpetrated by whites. It The abused going back to their abusers.

I feel terrible for Blacks who grew up with no self confidence. I had too much I guess, no wonder most girls especially black ones didn’t like me. Never phased me I had a family of extremely strong determined and proud women to look up to with admiration. Top of my list of women however is the Jamaican National hero is Nanny. Black, strong and smart. Jamaica would possibly still be enslaved if it wasn’t for her. She never kissed anyone’s ass to get what she needed, she worked hard with her thinking faculties. I wish loads of us were like her. If you look in the mirror and despite the imperfections you can say I’m beautiful then that’s sad. Self love conquers all. One love people.

To attest to the point you are making. I was in the British Army and almost all the Jamaican guys in my Regiment would go out or marry a white woman instead of a Black woman. I went to a beach one day with my kids and this old Jamaican woman came up to me and said "your kids are pretty but you are too dark" jokingly. I am an African and I respect the elderly so I kept my cool.

I've never had problems with the women and comfortable in my skin. The problem is women are weak. It is not about skin color it is about u not being comfortable in your own skin.

BEST SONG I HAVE HEARD FROM A BLACK WOMAN. I LOVE this song and the message it is sending especially at a time when many Jamaicans are bleaching their skin. Life would be so much better for us Black people today if most Black men and women were like you Spice. But instead, you have self-hating Black people like Vybz Kartel teaching young Black kids to hate themselves and bleach their skin. THANK YOU SPICE FOR THE POSITIVE MESSAGE.

Ryon Morris Kartel ain't teaching no one to do shit ..That his skin and he does what he wants..Black people are too fucking insecure and race obsessed,we allways need to be reminded how beautiful we are and also expect other blacks to live up to yall expectations when we are our own individuals with individual desires and needs.

@Ryon ..we can all take a positive message from our everyday life teachings. But how bout the rass claat weave pon har head? Do you support that? What kind of message is sent to our kids wearing human hair from poor 3rd world countries like India. Swept from barber shop floors, washed and exported. You like dat message?

@@bobbycooke6159 As far as I know. Every race of women uses weave in their hair. From Caucasian to Asians. Also, as far as I'm aware the hair that is sold, isn't taken from shop floors as they wouldn't be in good condition to sell overseas. You must be really ignorant or something, as I'm really young, and I know all of this when, I'm not even remotely interested in this topic. I do agree that some shouldn't be wearing certain weaves, and definitely not wigs, I really don't f**k with that, Box braids n such look pretty good though if done correctly. Also some of what you call "weave" is actually apart of some of our cultures. Overall though. Natural hair is always better, but is quite hard to maintain if you don't know how. I for example, only learned how to take care of my natural hair a little before this year started. Take care.

@Z.J Jones you are a prime example of the ignorance that affects our young women today. You should take the time out to read a bit more. Being young does not excuse the lack of basic knowledge. This video discusses bleaching but totally misses the biggest problem facing our young women today. Fake Hair! I could have repeated your entire post and replaced weave with bleaching. It is still a personal choice but one is a bigger epidemic today. Reading is fundamental. READ!

fake hair isnt that big of a problem, not everyone uses fake hair. You are a prime example of the ignorance in todays society. I get that fake hair isnt great but you do understand most people who put weave in their hair use real hair right? And its also a protective hairstyle that grows your hair, dont be quick to judge something with a lack of knowledge about the thing your judging

I'm pretty sure she had her natural Afro in some parts of this video. Oh yeah, Black women normally use wigs and weaves as protective styles to keep their Natural hair healthy. So please take your negativity somewhere else and just enjoy Spice's Black Women Magic!

Black is a powerful word, some people don't know the importance of what it is to be black,if they did, they wouldn't be trying to destroy their skin colour,if God didn't want us to be black,he wouldn't have made us that way in the first place.
