I'm trying this because we have an integrated physical therapy, massage therapy practice and one of my regular clients. I'm the Mt. Has a son newly diagnosed with scoliosis. The PT dug through her LinkedIn connections to find you for referral. I have a scoliosis and I'm getting pretty old now... These exercises feel great for my back, and go along with some research I'm doing about breathing and health. I'm finding that being in child's pose can help me really feel the expansion in my back. I think that's likely okay, but just checking! Thank you for this great resource!
Great Video thank you x as a Pilates Instructor this is very helpful to me. Just a thought to place the "knot" in the band on the Left Hand Side ( or side you are breathing into) for added proprioception and visualisation x
Very valuable. Also important ladies…make sure not to wear a sports bra that squeezes the upper intercostal muscles under the breast. If the bra is high support, I’ve found that it can actually flatten my rib cage at that spot and I have a hard time feeling my intercostal muscles expanding and it messes up my exercises.
If she has a left lumbar curve only she would want to breathe into and expand the right side. Even with lumbar curves we want to open up the concave side.
I need help breathing opening both concave sides in right thoracic left lumbar scoliosis. It’s very difficult for me to breathe in both concave sides at once.
Valuable. If I have a S scoliosis, is it better to focus my breath on both of the concave sides or only on this side, where is a bigger curve? Thank you
This is really valuable. Thanks for your video! Can i ask why do we breathe into the concave side? I would have thought breathing into the convex side would help in expansion since that is “collapsed” or always more contracted
@@suzannem8265 we can measure lung capacity with a spirometer, use a scoliometer to track rotation in the spine, and also take pictures of your posture and body landmarks to see if there are changes overtime.
Valuable! I was wondering if its okay to raise the my right arm up higher than my left while I do these as I have a left thoracic, right lumbar curve and my right shoulder hangs lower than the left.
Hi Katie. Again I ask ,where can I buy these items you use in your demos ? I like what you are showing me but sometimes I don’t hear what you are saying. The breathing exercises are something new to me but I will certainly keep working on them I am 91+ years of age and I have been trying to find specific exercises for my particular scoliosis shape. Thank you. LK from Canada ❤😊😊😊
Add the breathing as many times as you’d like throughout the day…as you’re sitting and relaxing, before you go to bed, etc. you can’t do too much breathing!
I have difficulty with this because my major curve is in the middle thoracolumbar to the left and my right thoracic curve slight and higher, so if I expand I'm not sure whether I create the space for the proper concave side or not
Why breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth? Breathing in through the mouth and out through the mouth would have less impedance of airflow
Very valuable!
Glad this was helpful to you!!! Breathing is key for scoliosis exercises!

Valuable 😊 is it best to sleep on your back when you have a right thoracic curve?
I would say however you can get the best nights sleep would be the best!

Eye opening!
I’m an older adult with acquired scoliosis. How can I measure my progress?
@@suzannem8265 we can measure lung capacity with a spirometer, use a scoliometer to track rotation in the spine, and also take pictures of your posture and body landmarks to see if there are changes overtime.
Valuable! I was wondering if its okay to raise the my right arm up higher than my left while I do these as I have a left thoracic, right lumbar curve and my right shoulder hangs lower than the left.
Yes that would be correct to open up the concave side of your thoracic curve. Good job!
Do you ever apply more band resistance on the side you are looking to expand more?
My daughter has left lumber n right thoracic curve...will need for both.

Happysew.com is where I get all of my equipment. Use code: SCHROTHBOSS and you’ll get 20% off.
Valuable 👏 And if your concave side (inner part of the convex lumbar side) is the worst one or the more "pronounced", you breathe in the same way?
Always breath into the concavity, no matter if it is in the thoracic, lumbar, or both!
@@schrothboss ok 👌 I'll try, ir seems challenging to breathe in both concavities 😊
if I have to expand left side should I have to put more or less tension on the elastic band on that side ? thank you
what's about major lumbar left scoliosis?
We use the same concepts of expansion via breathing!
How many times a day is good to do this breathing. ? LK. From Canada. ❤❤❤😊😊😊

@@tania_chen if you’re unsure, global expansion (expanding in all directions) will still be helpful to you!
Is is best to do breathing in supine, or is seated just as effective? Thank you.
I would try supine first because you may be able to feel the expansion better without battling gravity. But yes any position works!
Can I put pillow under the curved side to force air go to the other side?
I’m not sure I understand your question. I’d love to help if I can. Please elaborate!
Dear Katie.. when we breath out through the mouth, we keep the ribcage expansion.. Do we hold one side that collapsed one or just or do it balance?
You will get some “global expansion” meaning expanding on both sides, however you can focus on expanding the concavity more, the more collapsed side.
@@schrothboss thank you Katie... 🤗

Breathing in through the nose will help with oxygen uptake and humidify the air as you breathe in!
