A shout out to Tratnik and how Pogi managed the race. When Pogi got to the Tratnik group after Tratnik had sat on for over a lap he told him to bury himself until he finally blew on the climb. Kept the lead at over 1min and decimated the Belgian chase. That minute was enough for Pogi to manage things and keep the chase always just out of sight. Superb race management.

Considering original Slovenian plan, Roglic will be on TT and Pogacar would race on the road, means Roglic, on this race, was for tactical purposes only. He attacked once, and after that attack Pogi attacked, while Roglic remained in peloton, causing hesitancy, what was pretty efficient, enough, for Pogi to win. That's why Roglic has so smiley face after the race.

They didn't take his attack too seriously at 100km. So they reacted too late. When they reacted, no one wanted to work together. And in the last 20km everyone was cooked so they were just fighting for podium at that point

In golfing terms, the others left their winning putt short of the hole. Podg’s putt was 10 foot past the hole if he missed 😁💪

In a sense that was probably a good move for him. Everyone thought it was crazy. But the course didn’t seem quite as well structured for him as he thought. As remco said it was possible to get a draft in a lot of the course. If he went later MVDP and others may have actually been able to follow. As it was they just fought amongst themselves and gave him the break he may not have had later in the race. It was maybe stupid but also maybe not stupid.

I'm not sure he actually does know the moment to go, it's simply any moment he decides to go becomes the race winning move because nobody can ride more than a few km on his wheel it seems.

When I watched again the replay of Tadej Pogačar’s astonishing attack and his look of surprise when he looked round to see who was with him, it occurred to me that maybe he fully expected Roglič to be there.
Maybe when Pogacar suddenly decided to attack before Roglič
wasted any effort chasing with everyone glued to his wheel, he intended it as a clear invitation to Roglič that now was the time to go. He must have known that Van der Poel and Remco were caught up behind, and out of position and very few 'Klingons' would be able to hold the two winners of TdF and Giro going full gas on a hard climb.
I believe he imagined that Roglič would realise that if they both ripped up the climb together they could get clean across to the group ahead where they had a Slovenian team mate asset Jan Tratnik in waiting. Pogačar certainly looked surprised when he looked around to see who was with him. Maybe he was astonished/dismayed that Roglič
was nowhere to be seen. That meant either he didn't have the legs, or it was treachery and he was allowing Tadej to blow himself out. As Horner said - it was a gift for Roglič, he was off the hook, he could sit on the Belgians and Dutch and scoop the finish - if he had the legs.
After it became clear that Primoz didn't have the legs and Pogačar
won anyway, maybe Tadej was obliged to slot that explanation into the memory hole. We may have to wait a few years for the memoires to spill the beans.....

He had to atack. There was no other chance. His domestics was gone. Roglič wouldn't have helped him. Oponents were attacking. And he know that there's Tratnik in front. So he knwe that tje best defence is the attack. If he had not attacked, he would have lost. Ther no no chance that he alone can control the whole race for 100 km.
