I am happy that you visited the American cemetery in Cambridge. We will never forget the contribution of the USA to restoring freedom across Europe. Back when I was a London bus driver in the days of crew operated buses the point inspectors gave the crews a reminder to pull over at 10:59 on the 11th and turn the engine off until 11:02, some passengers made rude hand gestures upon alighting if running late. Other traffic was often unimpressed if a busy narrow street and not at a bus stop. Running to time was often impossible unless very early morning or late evening.

Retirement is a bit scary but I think with new eyes you will make a great life back in the US. Anyone who came this far to keep us all free deserve every respect we can give. I know it was for the world and so includes the USA, but regardless, they came and saved us. Thank God You should see the JFK memorial. A piece of land GIVEN to the USA 'forever', a piece of land that overlooks the spot where Magna Carta was signed. It's a beautiful memorial and every part of it symbolises something. Hey.... I've just thought... give birth there and the kid would be American.. that's a truly disturbing thought 😂 From an ex British soldier, lucky enough to have never seen war, I thank all American forces. Family! I hope we all begin making extra effort to house and feed our veterans. Including police and firemen. Let us all bear this in mind.... Poor is the land that has no heroes But Poor still is the land that has heroes AND FORGETS 😢 ❤ from Northeast England ❤️

Happy birthday Chris. When there's change on the horizon, every single one of us, even if we are excited about this change, it will always be tinged with an element of trepidation....it's normal. Listen guys, you have to do what's right for you, then go for it with full gusto!....you have both proven that you are both very resourceful folks. If things don't work out for you when you get back to the States, you know the door is always open here in the UK to welcome you back.
On retirement, go with the flow. Listen to all advice given, but you decide what’s best for you . both of you are good and honest and WILL make the right decisions.
Trust us, you will be so sadly missed when you go back “home” 😢. Your family have settled in your little countryside area and made it “yours” - your own little happy patch and have seemingly enjoyed living a British life. I hope it all works out for you going back - it will seem weird at first, how you found it when you first arrived here with our own funny little ways! 😵💫😂. Just take a little piece of “us” back with you and nurture a little bit of England in your garden in the hope it will give you happy memories of your time spent here🙂 And….happy birthday Chris 🥂🥳

Happy birthday Chris! I think at the moment, many of us just want to crawl under a rock until things improve. Many, including me love to watch home renovations, so as you already have this channel, maybe you could document that when you get back to the Upper Peninsula. There's a delightful channel The Lost Tower Diaries of a mother and daughter working in and around their old Scottish farmhouse with their cats, chickens, peacocks etc. It's lovely to watch and I'd love to see that on here if you fancy doing something like that.. Hope you don't dwell on things too much yet as you explore more of this country. Glad you found the Cambridge cemetery and it's well cared for. Watched the programme from the Cenotaph in London today as I do every year. Always incredibly moving to see those who served honoured. Take care.

Nobody knows the future try to make the best of whatever happens. My wife had to retire at 53 because she was losing her sight even though she wanted to paint in her retirement. I had to retire 3 years earlier than I planned due to my Parkinson’s getting worse and have had to change what I planned to do in my retirement. However you just have to grab whatever life throws at you and make the best of things. Keep calm and carry on!

Belated Happy Birthday, Chris! At least next year, you should be able to enjoy it with your family, from what you say? And well-deserved too, after 21 years of proudly serving your country. American military cemeteries, like their British equivalents, are always immaculately and respectfully maintained and cared for, from the several we have had the honour of attending in the UK and Normandy and in the US. And rightly so. British and Commonwealth ones always seem a little more understated than the US ones - I guess reflecting our national character? - but paying respects at any is so humbling an experience. And seeing SO many from so many nationalities represented at the Commonwealth ones is another humbling, massive eye-opener. Every US military cemetery we have had the privilege of visiting, has always left a deep and lasting impression on us. Paying our respects at both Colleville-sur-Mer (US) and Bayeaux (Commonwealth), one early June a couple of decades ago, was so humbling. But the most moving experience of all perhaps was at Fort Rosecrans naval cemetery, San Diego. Seeing the many, many - SO many - acres of immaculate white memorial crosses overlooking the now-peaceful, calm, sapphire Pacific, we could neither of us stop crying at the stark contrast of the visualisation of the many, many thousands of (mostly) young men who gave everything for their country. They, and the masses of their fellows interred or commemorated in US and Commonwealth memorials around the globe (including five Commonwealth War Graves in our village), bow to no-one. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them. Very wise to avoid politics! The US seems to me to have become so awfully polarised now. No longer any tolerance for other POV. No longer any objectivism. No longer being prepared to LISTEN! But its becoming the same here. So bloody sad. And scary. At least you have seen the world outside of the US; so many others have not. Your returning to Michigan will be our loss here. I am sure all of us on here will miss you. But will keep following you - can't WAIT to see you covering places in the US in the detail and depth you do here. If you can find ways to walk the places! But you are going home; and I am sure you lovely, lovely genuine, honest people, you honorary Brits now, will do just fine!

Friend, That had been the hardest thing for us not being in the US to help our family when they need us the most. Cancer and other health issues are never fun but are the hardest when you feel helpless when you see them cry, and all you want to do is hug them and spend time with them. Hi Chris, Happy Birthday, it was my 70th Birthday on Sunday 10 November, on that day I visited the American military cemetery at St. James in Brittany where 4,404 American servicemen are buried with 550 commemorated as missing in action. A very moving visit!

As just by there is an acre of land that was given to America by Queen Elizabeth II. And there is a memorial built for serving members of the American armed forces
I came out of the RAF after 22yrs quite a few years ago now, and know what a major life change that was. When you moved here you adapted quickly to life in the UK re shopping and driving etc. When you move back across the pond I've no doubt that you'll drop seamlessly back into the American way of doing things. When that horrible day (for us) comes, know this Jess, your family has become greatly loved by us Brits and we're going to miss you. You'll leave a massive hole. For me, I'll miss your sense of genuine awe and wonderment when you see somewhere or something new - and that will be difficult for anyone to replicate. Finally, a big happy birthday to Chris - unfortunately none of us can cheat that 'ticking clock.'

The American cemetery at Cambridge is a most fabulous place. Sounds weird, but a more peaceful place is hard to imagine. Somehow the place itself just seems to offer thanks and tribute to those who lie there. VERY humbling, even more so when you think of their average age, so many young men robbed of their futures for the futures of others. I hope that everything works out well, or better, on the return.
Uncertainty can be scary but as Tom Hanks says in the film Castaway you never know what the tide will bring in. There is always hope for the future and Im sure it will be bright for all of you. I appreciate your total honesty on here. And just to say that this country isn’t perfect either! Enjoy the rest of your time here. A good place for you guys to consider visiting is the JFK memorial at Runnymede near Windsor in Surrey. The land for the memorial was donated by our late Queen Elizabeth II to the people of the USA. This is the only piece of land in the U.K. that is now belongs to the USA. Not even the U.S. Embassy in London holds that distinction. The land sits overlooking the spot where the Magna Carta was signed by King John of England in June 1215 and is said to be the basis on which the US Constitution was developed. There is a RUclips video on this.
We are definitely going to visit the JFK Memorial. We're just trying to figure out what would be the best time of year. It is so incredible that the Queen dedicated the land to the US. A very Happy Birthday, Chris. Your family obviously have a number of 'heavy' issues which are in need of careful consideration, and you are already meeting them 'head on' by sharing with your followers. With large projects I tend to rely on an old fashioned note book, where the various issues are given space (even chapters), for the disorganised flood of questions and concerns which inevitably arise, and pencilled notes are made in the related chapter, for deeper consideration at another time. This helps to give clarity and a firm base for future decisions. For example, regarding your home in the US, would a Surveyor, or even a friend, be allowed access to maybe take photos and give a cursory report as to the condition ? What is the jobs market like in your chosen State ? Whatever you decide I wish you all the very best, and when you're home and posting vlogs I will definitely follow you. Cheers! There is a town called Darlington. Perfect as a home base for day trips out and getting back... 30min from Durham 45min from York 1 and half hours from Edinburgh 1 and half hours from the lake district ❤ from Northeast England ❤️
Sometimes we can think to deeply about what could happen when in fact most things go well and we forget how much we worried before about what could go wrong , though having a back up plan has helped me get through the maze of life on this planet.

I'm saddened to see how much hurt you understandably felt when visiting the graves of your fellow countrymen and especially the fact that they never made it back home. I know it's little consolation but please remember that the UK is probably the USA's closest ally and I know it's not home but of anywhere else on the Planet the UK does honour and mutually respect our friends across the pond. My brother married Kerri (Spelling?) and the live near Sacramento in the USA. He now has dual nationality and loves his life there but as a Welshman he does miss his Rugby back here (Probably see from my name I'm Welsh!)_ Anyway I just stumbled across your channel and thoroughly enjoyed to see how you perceive our county and vice versa! All the best Chris. How about putting up a big ish barn first and putting the caravan in the barn . Alternatively build your house in the barn and take down the barn after , you'll have to work out a method but at least you can work 24 / 7 in the dry 😂 Before getting sheep make sure there is a shearer nearby or go and do a course or help someone that is shearing their own flock . When home in the USA don't forget to wave to other drivers a thank you that give way to you 😂😂😂😂😂

I have driven a few times around Florida and some of your off ramps and junctions are ridiculous, can’t beat a roundabout 😂. If you go north along the A66 you pass a place called Boldron , we had out family farm there . Our house was so old . Still miss the views

I was in Tesco (Oxford) at the 11th hour and the 2 minutes silence was observed flawlessly. A respect to be proud of.
Back when I was a London bus driver in the days of crew operated buses the point inspectors gave the crews a reminder to pull over at 10:59 on the 11th and turn the engine off until 11:02, some passengers made rude hand gestures upon alighting if running late. Other traffic was often unimpressed if a busy narrow street and not at a bus stop. Running to time was often impossible unless very early morning or late evening.
We were able to observe it on base at the and even the American's did a good job at observing it. Cheers, Chris

You should see the JFK memorial. A piece of land GIVEN to the USA 'forever', a piece of land that overlooks the spot where Magna Carta was signed.
It's a beautiful memorial and every part of it symbolises something.

Trust us, you will be so sadly missed when you go back “home” 😢. Your family have settled in your little countryside area and made it “yours” - your own little happy patch and have seemingly enjoyed living a British life.

Happy birthday Chris! I think at the moment, many of us just want to crawl under a rock until things improve. Many, including me love to watch home renovations, so as you already have this channel, maybe you could document that when you get back to the Upper Peninsula. There's a delightful channel The Lost Tower Diaries of a mother and daughter working in and around their old Scottish farmhouse with their cats, chickens, peacocks etc. It's lovely to watch and I'd love to see that on here if you fancy doing something like that.. Hope you don't dwell on things too much yet as you explore more of this country. Glad you found the Cambridge cemetery and it's well cared for. Watched the programme from the Cenotaph in London today as I do every year. Always incredibly moving to see those who served honoured. Take care.

Nobody knows the future try to make the best of whatever happens.
My wife had to retire at 53 because she was losing her sight even though she wanted to paint in her retirement.
I had to retire 3 years earlier than I planned due to my Parkinson’s getting worse and have had to change what I planned to do in my retirement.
However you just have to grab whatever life throws at you and make the best of things.
Keep calm and carry on!

Belated Happy Birthday, Chris! At least next year, you should be able to enjoy it with your family, from what you say? And well-deserved too, after 21 years of proudly serving your country.
American military cemeteries, like their British equivalents, are always immaculately and respectfully maintained and cared for, from the several we have had the honour of attending in the UK and Normandy and in the US. And rightly so. British and Commonwealth ones always seem a little more understated than the US ones - I guess reflecting our national character? - but paying respects at any is so humbling an experience. And seeing SO many from so many nationalities represented at the Commonwealth ones is another humbling, massive eye-opener.
Every US military cemetery we have had the privilege of visiting, has always left a deep and lasting impression on us. Paying our respects at both Colleville-sur-Mer (US) and Bayeaux (Commonwealth), one early June a couple of decades ago, was so humbling. But the most moving experience of all perhaps was at Fort Rosecrans naval cemetery, San Diego. Seeing the many, many - SO many - acres of immaculate white memorial crosses overlooking the now-peaceful, calm, sapphire Pacific, we could neither of us stop crying at the stark contrast of the visualisation of the many, many thousands of (mostly) young men who gave everything for their country. They, and the masses of their fellows interred or commemorated in US and Commonwealth memorials around the globe (including five Commonwealth War Graves in our village), bow to no-one. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.
Very wise to avoid politics! The US seems to me to have become so awfully polarised now. No longer any tolerance for other POV. No longer any objectivism. No longer being prepared to LISTEN! But its becoming the same here. So bloody sad. And scary. At least you have seen the world outside of the US; so many others have not.
Your returning to Michigan will be our loss here. I am sure all of us on here will miss you. But will keep following you - can't WAIT to see you covering places in the US in the detail and depth you do here. If you can find ways to walk the places! But you are going home; and I am sure you lovely, lovely genuine, honest people, you honorary Brits now, will do just fine!

I agree that it truly is a humbling experience. I have had the honor of visiting Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. That was also a very moving experience for me. We honor and remember our men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country's.
Chris and I definitely want to stay away from politics because we only want to spread love and appreciate for everyone and this beautiful country's we have called home. We're so thankful that you all understand. We hope the US can come together with love and respect for other for having different options.

That had been the hardest thing for us not being in the US to help our family when they need us the most. Cancer and other health issues are never fun but are the hardest when you feel helpless when you see them cry, and all you want to do is hug them and spend time with them.

Hi Chris, Happy Birthday, it was my 70th Birthday on Sunday 10 November, on that day I visited the American military cemetery at St. James in Brittany where 4,404 American servicemen are buried with 550 commemorated as missing in action. A very moving visit!

Talk of the American cemetery. You may find a trip to where the magna carta was signed at Runnymede. As just by there is an acre of land that was given to America by Queen Elizabeth II. And there is a memorial built for serving members of the American armed forces

I came out of the RAF after 22yrs quite a few years ago now, and know what a major life change that was. When you moved here you adapted quickly to life in the UK re shopping and driving etc. When you move back across the pond I've no doubt that you'll drop seamlessly back into the American way of doing things. When that horrible day (for us) comes, know this Jess, your family has become greatly loved by us Brits and we're going to miss you. You'll leave a massive hole. For me, I'll miss your sense of genuine awe and wonderment when you see somewhere or something new - and that will be difficult for anyone to replicate. Finally, a big happy birthday to Chris - unfortunately none of us can cheat that 'ticking clock.'

The American cemetery at Cambridge is a most fabulous place. Sounds weird, but a more peaceful place is hard to imagine. Somehow the place itself just seems to offer thanks and tribute to those who lie there. VERY humbling, even more so when you think of their average age, so many young men robbed of their futures for the futures of others.
I hope that everything works out well, or better, on the return.

A good place for you guys to consider visiting is the JFK memorial at Runnymede near Windsor in Surrey.
The land for the memorial was donated by our late Queen Elizabeth II to the people of the USA. This is the only piece of land in the U.K. that is now belongs to the USA. Not even the U.S. Embassy in London holds that distinction.
The land sits overlooking the spot where the Magna Carta was signed by King John of England in June 1215 and is said to be the basis on which the US Constitution was developed.

Your family obviously have a number of 'heavy' issues which are in need of careful consideration, and you are already meeting them 'head on' by sharing with your followers. With large projects I tend to rely on an old fashioned note book, where the various issues are given space (even chapters), for the disorganised flood of questions and concerns which inevitably arise, and pencilled notes are made in the related chapter, for deeper consideration at another time. This helps to give clarity and a firm base for future decisions. For example, regarding your home in the US, would a Surveyor, or even a friend, be allowed access to maybe take photos and give a cursory report as to the condition ? What is the jobs market like in your chosen State ?

I'm saddened to see how much hurt you understandably felt when visiting the graves of your fellow countrymen and especially the fact that they never made it back home. I know it's little consolation but please remember that the UK is probably the USA's closest ally and I know it's not home but of anywhere else on the Planet the UK does honour and mutually respect our friends across the pond. My brother married Kerri (Spelling?) and the live near Sacramento in the USA. He now has dual nationality and loves his life there but as a Welshman he does miss his Rugby back here (Probably see from my name I'm Welsh!)_ Anyway I just stumbled across your channel and thoroughly enjoyed to see how you perceive our county and vice versa! I know a neighbour who goes to Florida a couple times a year and I think why don't you go look at Grand Canyon, the Rockies, San Francisco, Phoenix Superstition Mountains as I read The Lost Dutch man's mine when I was young. I feel he is missing so much by just sticking to Florida. I hope you find your life back home very happy.

How about putting up a big ish barn first and putting the caravan in the barn . Alternatively build your house in the barn and take down the barn after , you'll have to work out a method but at least you can work 24 / 7 in the dry 😂
Before getting sheep make sure there is a shearer nearby or go and do a course or help someone that is shearing their own flock .
When home in the USA don't forget to wave to other drivers a thank you that give way to you 😂😂😂😂😂

I have driven a few times around Florida and some of your off ramps and junctions are ridiculous, can’t beat a roundabout 😂. If you go north along the A66 you pass a place called Boldron , we had out family farm there . Our house was so old . Still miss the views
