  • My thoughts on the 2013 Mini Cooper Countryman S All 4, With the 1.6L turbo charged 4 cylinder engine, and 6 speed manual transmission:
Brand names mean a lot in society these days, for better or for worse. Just google the word “Supreme”, and get ready for you jaw to hit the floor at the sight of a white t-shirt selling for around $100. But what happens if you distance the product from it’s name? Does it make it better? In this case, it does.
Mini Cooper started making cars for the common man of Britain. With the goal of small, light-weight cars, they soon became a cultural Icon. So iconic, the original Mini Cooper was named the second most influential car of the 1900s, only behind the Ford Model T. But have they lost their way? Yeah, kinda.
The 2013 Mini Cooper Countryman s All 4 (I’ll be referring to this car as the All 4 for the rest of this review) has strayed far from the idea of a basic every-man’s car. The All4 comes with heated seats, four doors, all-wheel drive, traction control, power everything, and every other gadget and gizmo you could want. But that’s not what Mini used to be about. Mini’s have gotten taller, fatter, and well if I’m honest: less mini.
But I really liked the car. The All 4 had a fair amount of power, was very comfortable to be in, and was up to the standards of any other modern car. The only flaw I found, was the name. Had the All4 been named something else, besides Mini, I would have been okay with the car. It’s like the 8th fast and furious movie. As an action movie, it was: Fun, action packed, and funny at the right times. But as a Fast and Furious film, they rarely ever talked about cars. There were no cars in the film I’d want as a hot wheels version, and no catch phrases every Honda civic driver will buy as a sticker. The All 4 as a standalone car is great, but when put under the Mini brand, I can’t help but feel it isn’t worthy of the name.

a review of a great car by someone who really does not get the mini concept at all. Mini is a class of it´s own, and you just cannot copare it to other cars on other segments. Mini is like an opera, either you love it or you hate it particularly if you are not a real driver or enjoy the thrill to drive.

The turn signal was made that way so that if you fly down the road, you can hit it quickly to switch lanes versus turning it completely around a corner. My 2017 cruze has it, let's people now especially if your driving fast In light traffic on the freeway

On the turn signal. I loved it in my cooper s, just one micro little tap and it’s enough blips to change lanes. The car does everything quickly anyway.

just some advice from a real mini owner.. The countryman is no car to judge the mini name brand by. You wana drive a real mini? Go drive a john cooper works or a GP chasis. The S trims are nice in sports mode but in stock form they are just peppy. The JCW and GP however are nice. 02-06 r53 1.6sohc supercharged cars were great. 07-10 r56 and all other trims used the N14 dohc 1.6 direct injection turbo and ran into issues with timing chains, carbon build up, and vacuum pump failure. You can get around those issues with good maintenance. 11-14 S cars swapped to the N18 Engine which has proven to be a good an reliable engine. The JCW trims kept the N14 07-14 and claimed to have fixed the issues by 2011. The new F56 mini is also a great car with a new engine that makes over 230hp with a 2.0 DI dohc Twin scroll turbo setup. The n14 and n18 also use a twin scroll setup. Hope this well give you some knowledge into these cars. They handle like go carts. Not everyone can fit into a normal mini, clubman, or convertible mini. That is why they created the Countryman and Paceman cars to widen the variety of mini's to the consumer world. Plus with the adding of AWD the countryman and paceman can be pretty sweet and the new F55 clubman can come with AWD now as well.

Great info. Really fills in the gaps from my research. Two weeks ago I picked up my 2012 R60 and loving it more every day - only 42,500 on the odo.

Sounds great, I want one, which is the hottest, most reliable, fastest, luxurious,
countryman to get [ 02-06 r53 1.6 supercharged or the n18s ] . what older year is the gem year. I drive an audi 2008 s4 with v8 stick shift now.

@@albertjones2107 I personally own a 2002 in dark gray. Love my car always have but have modded it a bit to my taste. A lot of people tend to look for the 05-06 r53's for a lot of good reasons and they do make the r53 in a JCW and GP package as well if you are looking for something with a bit more power then an S model.

The gauges and toggle switchs get their design from aviation air planes and that was the reason you will notice so many toggle switchs. The idea was to place the rpms in the drivers front view to keep a constant view on your rpms for autocrossing, etc. Never heard about the pole idea.

Also for the ac controls that car is a base model as you can tell. You can also go into the settings and control the amount of doors that lock, wiper modes, etc. On higher models the ac controls etc are all digital push button etc.

I can also assume you did not find the secret glove box judging from this video that is above the normal glove box. The car does not need to have the key in the ignition to start it you can have it in your pocket. the ignition just charges the battery in the key when inserted.

they were spun on a pole during the rustproofing process. there's a hole in the boot wall behind the rear seat.
they literally spun like a spitroast chicken. plenty of videos on RUclips showing this process if you are interested
