AniNews Gilgamesh is my favorite character from the Fate Series. He has a legitimate reason to be arrogant but his Archer form takes it to the extreme. Are you going to talk about Ko Gil (Young Gilgamesh) in this series?
Probably he himself considered to feel and experience humanity to the highest point possible that he didn't take the herb. So his already a mongrel himself. He probably thought that mongrels felt the most joy than the gods

To be fair, the term “hero” had a very different meaning in ancient times compared to the modern version. Most heroes in mythology were depicted as assholes; they certainly weren’t Spider-Man or Captain America.

Remember though that the Throne of Heroes reside outside time - there's literally no one you could point at as the first that arrived there. IIRC is also the reason Archer Emiya was able to meet his younger alter self

Enkidu's original form is the noble phantasm, his lancer self is heroic spirit, and divine spirit as stated by Strange Fake would be berserker. EMIYA isn't a heroic spirit at all though, he's a counter guardian and he was summoned as a servant, not a heroic spirit. At the point he was summoned, the grail had been corrupted so more than just heroic spirits could be summoned (thanks Angra). Which is why he could be summoned as a servant. Enkidu is an actual heroic spirit though, him also being a Noble Phantasm doesn't change that.

Correction: in Fate lore, gil didn’t spare enkidu. They actually tied in battle and neither one conceded defeat. In the real life lore tho, gil beat enkidu in a hard won wrestling match.
I think its implied at some point that it’s not clear who would have won, I think on wiki apparently in fate, when they finished fighting Ediku was only 8th of the clay and Gilgamesh barely had any weapons left, Gilgamish then basically said they should stop before one of them is killed but the way he says it Ediku could never work out if Gilgamesh had been talking about himself or Ediku. Made in Love Train Act 4 Requiem in FGO Gil’s strength is B. It’s B in most Fate materials. Also Enkidu’s strength isn’t A. It’s whatever Enkidu needs it to be. With transfiguration, Enkidu can freely change his stats to be pretty much whatever he wants them to be. (Except his NP)

He doesn't create a whole new thing which belongs to him - in fact, "those hands will never hold anything" (Gilgamesh, on the other hand, doesn't try to create something that already exists, only gathers those things and all the things he gathered do belong to him). That "something" ascends to Gilgamesh's Treasury too in most cases. Moreover. when he only projects items from GoB he wouldn't be able to use them far more effectively than Gilgamesh himself because those items have yet no history of being wielded by heroes who mastered and brought them beyond the limits. So there are no skills and abilities of their wielder as a part of the history of a weapon to copy. EMIYA might still have the Eye of Mind but it wouldn't give him much advantage against Gilgamesh's Sha Nagba Imuru. Gilgamesh: Rule Breaker! Medea: but that's my thing! They have the same backstory but Archer Gil is him before he went into the underworld while Caster Gil is him after the snake ate the immortality leaf when he didnt care about immortality anymore and learned to live life
more specifically though, both have the same memories, it's just that his Archer self(allegdly because of the influence of Independent Action EX) draws on his aspect as a tyrant. CCC showed that he does have the memory and maturity of his older self buried inside.
@Jotaro Kujo my bad about the rank, yeah, it's A+. as for the rest; archer gil views things from his older perspective as a tyrant, so he dislikes the average modern human(not the world itself) due to their complacency, and in general is more of a jerk. in FSN, he's also way more corrupted by grail mud than he cares to admit; in /zero he's pretty much just fascinated by kirei and his selfishness leads him to prioritize pushing him further. He still has the same memories as caster gil though, just a different mindset. Kind of the same as how Vlad the noble and Vlad the crusader(influenced by Protection of the Faith A+++) have completely different personas despite being the same person.
Gil hate Our Age (Modern Age) becase we too weak and too pathetic to fight,not when in his Age when even the weakest Human can get you a Gold Medal in Olympic,he want us to get strong when he still rule.
Gilgamesh has a lot of rather funny moments from Fate/Extra CCC that pretty much cements him as a massive tsundere towards humanity. The question about if he actually loves humanity has him completely silenced and stunned for a moment before giving a sort of backhanded compliment as an answer.
Archer Gil is that rebellious -a-hole- teen phase who refuses to put in effort, but also refuses to admit he has a problem. He wants to have fun more than accept his responsibilities. Caster Gilgamesh is when he matures and becomes more level-headed with age and experience. He learns the benefits of hard work, but sometimes takes it too far.
Just a simple reformulation. The difference between archer Gilgamesh and caster are that they are the same person but not from the same point of time. You see the Caster is from after Enkidu's death while the archer gil is before his best buds death. The throne of heroes (realm from which you summon the servants) carry not the heroes themself but the legend they created. Now there are 2 legends about Gilgamesh, the wise king who couldnt find immortality (caster) and the arrogant undefeated archer who hasn't seen the death of his friend YET. So both of them are summoned as the same person but not from the same specific time. It's the same for another servant which you'll learn of during the anime who has been summoned at his/her younger state. I just wanna let that out since people can still be confused ^^
Yeah but Archer Gil still knows about Enkidus death & his future self as well. Its just he acts based on different values he embodys while also being influenced by the corrupted greater grail.

that's not really accurate rather, archer gilgamesh is *gilgamesh* while caster gilgamesh is only the wise king, archer gilgamesh is basically "all the Gilgamesh". also, that's only in fgo, if caster gilgamesh was summoned in a HGW, well first he would be much stronger, and second, he would also be *gilgamesh* anyway, doesn't make much of a difference, their personalities are about the same, the only difference is the era you summon him in

People who wonder why and how the hell Gilgamesh is a heroic spirit. Me- shoves fate grand order babaloynia in front of them, watch this! You have no choice!
It seems to me that caster Gil would fit perfectly in the role of the ruler class if there was ever another great holy grail war.. To make him different they could have him be the perfect balance between his archer and caster versions, the power of the former with the mentality of the latter. It could be explained that it is Gilgamesh after he returned from his journey but before he gave his treasures away. I like to think that with his castor mentality he might actually sometimes use some noble phantasms like they are supposed to be used instead of just throwing them all the time.
Archer Gil has the same memory as the caster Gil, and he is from after his death. What you see in fate Go is Gil himself so he is not caster class but use magic for the efficiency of it, but in other series he is a servant and the fact that he seems arrogant, is mainly because he had lived the life he wanted and he just want to have some fun.
The Ruler class is the servant of the Grail itself and Gil doesn't serve his own drinking cup. He would never accept being summoned in the ruler class, just like no grail system could ever be corrupted enough to attempt such idiocy.
So in other words, I, and all of humanity, have *a lot* to thank Gil for. Good to know, but also something I wouldn’t have if you guys didn’t take the time to edit and make this video. Thanks, your effort is appreciated!

I had always wondered why Leonidas in FGO had a spear from Gil's vault. Hearing that Gil distributed his weapons to the people now allows that fact to make sense. Gil gave Leonidas his spear when he was summoned by him.

@lunerblade13 I mean just because he's alive doesn't mean he isn't a servant class. Look at his Fate Stay route. All the version there, whether og night, UBW or HF he is no longer a spirit but alive because of the corruption of the grail. Remember the Throne of Heroes exists outside Space and Time. Plus Merlin's still alive despite being the Grand Caster

I would like to add a few things to what you said. The Bull of Heaven in Fate is actually Ishtar's divine beast not her father's as she is the Queen of Heaven and the strongest deity of her pantheon. It has been stated by Merlin and Da Vinci that the concentration of mana if the Age of the Gods is far higher than in the modern era which enabled Gil to summon his servants. Also just summoning one servant nearly killed him but he didn't care and kept summoning until he had 8 but since he can't support the existence of so many servants by himself he gave them physical bodies so they would inhabit them and not suck up his mana. Again Gil never defeated Enkidu in the Fate-verse, they fought to a stalemate which is why its pretty fun to see them fight again in Fate Strange Fake so we would know who would actually win.
Rodiacreed she is not the strongest deity of her pantheon, Marduk is most likely more powerful. Also, Tiamat is part of the same pantheon so it's a meaningless statement.

I love that gil went about summoning one of each class (if memory serves amakusa filled in the saber roll) but when he summoned rider ushi lancer Benkei just tagged along.
Great video! I honestly didn't expect much from this(expected a bad remake), but strangely enough it was very enjoyable. As someone who is very invested in his character(I have all of his versions in FGO, I played through Babylonia, watched your earlier videos, read the wiki, watched extra cutscenes, read the Epic of Gilgamesh(some of it at least)), I still found it highly entertaining and learn 1 or 2 new things. Gilgamesh never beat Enkidu, they fought to a stalemate and were so tired that an average soldier could kill either of them as they lay there. Also, Gilgamesh is not a Caster in babylonia, as he isn't a Servant. That's living Gilgamesh.

Babylonia made Gilgamesh even more awesome. I’m so glad they made Babylonia the way they did! Gil is one of the coolest characters in all anime. & that enuma elish at the end was the most badass display of power! Those sound effects were so OP.
Oh, thanks for clarifying it. I've always wondered why the Gilgamesh I've met in FGO while playing through the Babylonia Singularity was such a swell guy. It's just an older, wiser and more matured version of him.
I may not have gotten Eresh on the Christmas from the Underworld banner, but at least I managed to pull Ishtar on the Christmas rerun banner while also pulling (Best King) Caster Gil at the Thanksgiving banner so Im quite satisfied with that.
Actually caster Gil and archer Gil are basically the same. Archer Gil, at that moment of time, chose to act the way he did because he thought that was best for humanity. In fate/extra for example, we have an archer Gil that is way more chill and basically the same as caster GIl. His "mood" lets say is influenced by the circumstances Gil is being faced with.
I'm so glad you laid out Gil's backstory cause man I read it all on the wiki and it was kind of confusing since a lot of it was just taken from translated clips of Fate/CCC, where the translation was more like a one-to-one recreation of every sentence in english without regard for comprehensibility
funny part is, he isnt, the situation is jsut different. "caster" gil actually refuses to give the protags the grail simply because he doesnt see them as worthy even tho he knows exactly what is going on. also maybe the game is weard but he isnt dead in his timeline and threfor isnt a servant, calling him caster gil is simple ignorance....
Castor Gil also has a voice line in the game where he says he’s only pretending to be a castor as a deliberate provocation. Once you get him to bond lvl 5 he says that it’s Solomon he’s sneering at by changing to the castor class.
He may have less firepower but this gil would be very dangerous in a holy grail war. Clairvoyance, no arrogance, wise mind. I dont see him loosing to anyone in fuyuki.
@@bluemoon9683 ye no arrogance at all, fully aware of the singularities, fully aware of why the protag needs the grail, still refuses to give it away because they need his good will for it. in the HGW he simply doesnt want peasents to touch his treasure, in grand order he literally delays the saving of the world because he doesnt consider the only possible saviours worthy of his treasure. if thats not arrogance i dont know what is. also, clairvoyance and a wise mind dont help you shit if your master is incompetent, those are only helpfull when he is in control (except CV of cause, that shit may help in battle, however he still needs time to react, so it doesnt make him unbeatable). also, he also had his wise mind etc after he died in grand order and came back as a servant, so guess what, him being extremely pissed off and hot headed isnt because he is a servant, but more because of the situation he is confronted with in fuyuki. instead of a world where everyone follows and serves him and where he expected humans to grow even closer to percetion, a few thousand years later he sees a humanity that has gone further away from what he hoped it would evolve into and not only that, multiple peasants want his sacred treasure without his allowance yet alone without deserving any of his good will. none of that would change, it is literally the same person just in a different situation....
So guys if Gil is somoned before meeting Enkidu what will be his class a saber or a lancer because if l remember correctly before meeting Enkidu Gil fighted with his weapons rather than throwing them
Caster Gil only exist in the singularity, so if you summon him as an Caster in Canon, he would probably be different. Also, Tokyomi should have summoned Gil in his later wise years, since the catalyst was the fossilized snake skin that ate his herb, it was either a fluke or the corrupted grail's influince that he was summoned in his younger years.

They have the same backstory but Archer Gil is him before he went into the underworld while Caster Gil is him after the snake ate the immortality leaf when he didnt care about immortality anymore and learned to live life
more specifically though, both have the same memories, it's just that his Archer self(allegdly because of the influence of Independent Action EX) draws on his aspect as a tyrant. CCC showed that he does have the memory and maturity of his older self buried inside.

as for the rest; archer gil views things from his older perspective as a tyrant, so he dislikes the average modern human(not the world itself) due to their complacency, and in general is more of a jerk. in FSN, he's also way more corrupted by grail mud than he cares to admit; in /zero he's pretty much just fascinated by kirei and his selfishness leads him to prioritize pushing him further.
He still has the same memories as caster gil though, just a different mindset. Kind of the same as how Vlad the noble and Vlad the crusader(influenced by Protection of the Faith A+++) have completely different personas despite being the same person.

Caster Gilgamesh is when he matures and becomes more level-headed with age and experience. He learns the benefits of hard work, but sometimes takes it too far.
Just a simple reformulation. The difference between archer Gilgamesh and caster are that they are the same person but not from the same point of time. You see the Caster is from after Enkidu's death while the archer gil is before his best buds death. The throne of heroes (realm from which you summon the servants) carry not the heroes themself but the legend they created. Now there are 2 legends about Gilgamesh, the wise king who couldnt find immortality (caster) and the arrogant undefeated archer who hasn't seen the death of his friend YET. So both of them are summoned as the same person but not from the same specific time. It's the same for another servant which you'll learn of during the anime who has been summoned at his/her younger state.

It seems to me that caster Gil would fit perfectly in the role of the ruler class if there was ever another great holy grail war.. To make him different they could have him be the perfect balance between his archer and caster versions, the power of the former with the mentality of the latter. It could be explained that it is Gilgamesh after he returned from his journey but before he gave his treasures away. I like to think that with his castor mentality he might actually sometimes use some noble phantasms like they are supposed to be used instead of just throwing them all the time.
Archer Gil has the same memory as the caster Gil, and he is from after his death. What you see in fate Go is Gil himself so he is not caster class but use magic for the efficiency of it, but in other series he is a servant and the fact that he seems arrogant, is mainly because he had lived the life he wanted and he just want to have some fun.
The Ruler class is the servant of the Grail itself and Gil doesn't serve his own drinking cup. He would never accept being summoned in the ruler class, just like no grail system could ever be corrupted enough to attempt such idiocy.

I would like to add a few things to what you said. The Bull of Heaven in Fate is actually Ishtar's divine beast not her father's as she is the Queen of Heaven and the strongest deity of her pantheon.
It has been stated by Merlin and Da Vinci that the concentration of mana if the Age of the Gods is far higher than in the modern era which enabled Gil to summon his servants. Also just summoning one servant nearly killed him but he didn't care and kept summoning until he had 8 but since he can't support the existence of so many servants by himself he gave them physical bodies so they would inhabit them and not suck up his mana.
Again Gil never defeated Enkidu in the Fate-verse, they fought to a stalemate which is why its pretty fun to see them fight again in Fate Strange Fake so we would know who would actually win.
Is Ishtar actually stated to be the most powerful of her pantheon? I would imagine that title belonging to Marduk tbh.

As someone who is very invested in his character(I have all of his versions in FGO, I played through Babylonia, watched your earlier videos, read the wiki, watched extra cutscenes, read the Epic of Gilgamesh(some of it at least)), I still found it highly entertaining and learn 1 or 2 new things.

I may not have gotten Eresh on the Christmas from the Underworld banner, but at least I managed to pull Ishtar on the Christmas rerun banner while also pulling (Best King) Caster Gil at the Thanksgiving banner so Im quite satisfied with that.

Actually caster Gil and archer Gil are basically the same. Archer Gil, at that moment of time, chose to act the way he did because he thought that was best for humanity. In fate/extra for example, we have an archer Gil that is way more chill and basically the same as caster GIl. His "mood" lets say is influenced by the circumstances Gil is being faced with.

Castor Gil also has a voice line in the game where he says he’s only pretending to be a castor as a deliberate provocation. Once you get him to bond lvl 5 he says that it’s Solomon he’s sneering at by changing to the castor class.
