    Have you ever buckled a wheel?

      Yep In 3 places

      On my first MTB 29 years ago from throwing it across a creek. Chambered rims where not standard back in the day. Every modern bike would survive that with no problem.

      Yes, I used a combination of jumping on it and a divide in a tree trunk as a vice. I got it surprisingly straight. I patted myself on the back all day.

      Yes, like a dumbass..the bike was on the rack and I pulled out and turned too hard. Rear wheel caught on the dirt mount next to the parking area. Taco time

    My back wheel is slightly buckled, but non of the spokes are lose. All are solid. . Guy at the bike shop said he'll fix it for a tenner. I'm thinking is it even worth it, or if I don't get it sorted will it just get worse I don't know but I'm not bashing my wheel on the ground because it's an expensive wheel. If I Bosch my wheel on the ground it will make it 10 times worse, mate your advice is crazy

    In my experience a good sized buckle is often down to a snapped spoke

    Can you do a bit on how to repair/replace a spoke while out in the field? I am getting ready to venture out a big bike packing trip. This is the thing I have never had to do in all my years biking. Never broke a spoke or trued rims. How to be creative to get a bike working while in the middle of mountains/wilderness would be great when you are carrying limited tools.

    Rich, this is a very dark rabbit hole. Without knowing what you’re doing you can go from pretty true to untrue instantaneously. Truing is an expert job. I’m not saying it’s a bike shop issue but if you’re thinking of playing with your spokes know the physics of a wheel first. You’re better off jumping up and down on your wheel.

      Exactly. His advising people to bash their wheel on the ground I mean seriously. My wheel is an expensive one and the last thing I want to do is start bashing it on the ground after I've got a slight buckle . That will probably make it 10 times worse so I'm calling this video nonsense

    Tip: take the tire off
    it's cursed, but it will get you home when your rim is a pringle

    Can you do like a 26 inch in the back and 29er in the front bike

    • @livingon2wheels
      @livingon2wheels 3 года назад

      That's a big difference. I'd stick to no less than 27.5 on the back of a mullet bike. Otherwise the geo on the frame is going to be way off.

    #askgmbntech Upper fork crash damage - Hey guys, I recently took a tumble that gouged/deeply scrathed the fork upper of my 170mm travel Fox 36 on the right side. Is there a repair technique that can fix this or do I need a new fork?

    Unless you're stuck in the middle of nowhere - DO NOT BASH YOUR WHEELS ON STUMPS!! 🙈

      Yeah you can pretty much avoid the conditions that could do this to your bike (and your body).
