I appreciate what you do Jeff, I was allowed to hunt this 2.5 acre parcel for the last 4 years, 1st year I blew it up. I've been listening to what you say and try to follow it. Man, what a difference, more activity, more deer, more quality deer. I can't thank you enough and if I ever hit the lottery, I'll be another one of your customers.
This man is giving out free game. He breaks it all down and gets into the details. Honestly so much you can’t watch all the videos and comprehend it all. You have to live it to really learn it. I myself am mostly self taught. I put many hours in the woods. I also put many hours into reading and researching the animals I hunt. But you can only learn so much on paper or videos. I’m a firm believer that you can never stop learning about anything. But if you already have a good idea of how whitetails work but want to dive in deeper and help clear things up, this is the channel you want to go to. This man knows what he’s talking about!
I have learned so much from this guy. I live in Michigan and I have struggled with my food plots in the past. I took Jeff's advice on planting buckwheat and no plow my plots in after with great success. He is a wealth of information. Thank you so much!!

I hunt a 40acre private in Connecticut and just yesterday October 24. Pre rut is in high effect. I had 6 small bucks 80 yards and then the dominant 10 point came out and they fled the area. Its go time
I've been hunting more mornings after watching your videos. Couldn't agree more during this time of year. I hunt public land close to bedding and mornings rule! Thanks for the great advice!! 👍
I will say mornings have stunk around here until the full moon now we're getting a lot more late morning activity I don't put a lot of stock in the moon most of the time more the position of the Moon rather than the phase it's in. I've had great luck when the moon was directly overhead in the middle of the day and directly underfoot what's about to kick in though and all bets are going to be off now I just look for the right wind for specific stands and cooler temps.
Last year got the ok to manage my families 60 acres. I run 5 cameras, two feeders and about an acre food plot of rye, turnip, peas, wheat….. they love it. Unfortunately I only have mature bucks using land as a highway right now but I believe once rut starts here they will be there. Your videos are awesome thank you
I hunt public lands only now. In Mid Wisconsin. THe rut is going strong the opening weekend of gun season. Almost always have my buck an hour into the season. I am hunting rutting areas only. (48 years hunting) There are tricks to finding areas bucks use to travel during rutting seasons. They travel the shortest distances between beddiong grounds (IMO), so I position my stand (s) only in these areas. Public hunting lands are so much more satisfying as I also have to find a spot where other hunters will not hinder my hunt. I LOVE this challenge as much as geting my deer. Not like many who hunt privarte lands and are shooting their pets at the bait stations. I now also do ALL my scouting a full year in advance as I no longer live in that state, but still hunt there.
I have also been saving stands for that cold morning pre rut sit per your advice and I just shot my biggest 8 point in Michigan October 23rd. Thanks Jeff! Thanks for all the tips.

Real eye opener for rut activity from North to South . I always believed that spring being later in the North that the rut would be later ??? so the fawns aren't born to early before green up ??? I guess I was wrong???
A lot of company’s make you take your vacation At least 2 months in advance. It’s not that easy to just pick days, and you always have the weekends off with a normal schedule job but in pa we only get Saturday to hunt, I did schedule my two weeks with the time period of the rut from last year, took your advice about the same time every year in your area. But I have from the 23rd to the 7th off. Will I hunt every day? No, but I’ll be picking good weather days in between, and even the days I’m not hunting it will be better than being at work lol but I’ve seen some amazing pre rut activity all through October, yesterday evening the 23rd was a amazing evening. I Grunted a buck in and he was grunting back. And I have to say the extinguisher grunt call is a great call. Being able to switch to a doe grunt and buck grunt really efficiently is awesome and the call just sounds great.

Northwest GA. > The family group of 7-deer I watch, 3-old enough to breed, based on when they had fawns last year, & counting back 5-months, & 3-weeks. Therefore, a hunter in my area should start sitting for Pre-Rut on Nov. 15th. Because the Rut will *Peak* on Nov. 23rd. / Then the bucks will recouporate & Post Rut will start approx. Dec. 24th.
Upstate NY, only forest hunted since childhood, only mornings. Just started afternoons last year when on another property near some Ag. Love them cold, crisp, mornings, Halloween week.
Hey Jeff! Ive been follwing you for about a year now and set myself up for my first year bowhunting using mostly your advice. Your channel is such a valuable resource for me and i just shot a really nice 10 pointer on public land yesterday!
Minamal activity so far at my place in Pa. But a lot of small bucks on camera, 10 in 1 night on 3 yard cameras. No sign of the older ones that were around 10 days ago.
I love watching your videos, its a huge learning experience, I hunt in SE MN, I was in the stand Friday morning at 5 am, at 8:45 I had 5 doe's come wondering by, heading to there bedding area. I left my stand at 10am and started heading back to the farm. after walking about 250 yards away from my stand, I seen one of the bucks I am targeting, with 2 other smaller bucks. Shouldn't they be out of there bachelor groups?? I figured the target buck would be more focused, on the females
Jeff, 10/22, I saw 9 different bucks. There was a doe that must have gone into heat early. Thanks for letting know not to hunt too much to burn out stands.
Love to hunt the rut up North one day. I agree the rut is the same time every year…that said, I’m in Florida. Florida has varying rut dates (August in S Florida, Mid Oct in my neck of Central Florida). Florida is a rut wild card! Here comes a buck. Gotta go! Great video Jeff.
Jeff, you hit the nail on the head regarding the 15th of November being the peak here in the northern part of Indiana. I can’t count how many bucks (4+ year olds) that all of a sudden become killable. Best bucks I’ve killed and seen are from Nov 13-18. I think that’s the end of of peak breeding (2.5 days) and start of the post rut (2.5 days). Magical days to be on stand when all the factors line up.
We dont have a frost yet here N Alabama but ive hunting 3 times since the October 15 and not much deer moving since i put out the trail cam Oct 11. Im learning more about the Rut and like these videos!
Been out here in Iowa the last couple days. Saw my first big buck walking after does yesterday morning. Got a couple trees injected with tordon using my hand saw. Ordered 20 late dropping apple trees from Century Farms for April. Bring on the rut!
Love your videos! Very helpful, especially this one! I've had a rough idea/ understanding of the rut, but I'm glad you went into detail with all the phases and timeline of the rut; regarding southern MI (as that's where I live and hunt). I appreciate it all! Good luck with venti this year!
I do have a nice 8 coming in mostly at night but the morning after the last temperature drop he came in just before shooting time . But he has showed up on the 27 around 730 am so I’m hoping sat morning he will do the same .
This year for me is going to be chalanging,, we have a bunper crop of white oaks where I hunt. And we have lots of white oaks. Every where. So they can literally eat any where,, and lay down. Its very thick in places. Here and where I hunt you can only bow hunt. But that's makes it more challenging. For me. Its a tough place to hunt but I enjoy. The challenge. I hunt on,the ground. And there s not alot of deer here. So you really have to do allot of scouting before you hunt,,,,,
Missed a 9 pointer Friday afternoon, I was heartbroken, luckily he wasn't too sure what happened and walked off un spooked. Glad I missed rather than injuring him, hoping yo get another shot at him
I know the feeling. Keep in the fight. I blew a shot at a big six point and thought my day was done, sat up against a log all dejected and had a huge 10 point sneak in behind me. Doe caught me turning and blew and I screwed the pooch on him too! Promptly never forgave myself.
I was googling things on when the rut was, as it is my 2nd year hunting and my first year bow hunting, never got an actual date of when it usually starts so I didn’t touch my trail cam till after thanksgiving and massive wide 10 point was up by my feeder on the 13th and 16th of November. I wanna cry 😂
Great video Jeff. I will use this in North Carolina this week. There have been 15-20 degree drops in daytime high to night time low here the past day or two. The day time high also drops from 75 to 63 from Monday to Tuesday. Tuesday morning low is 39, Wednesday morning, 43. Scattered rain Monday and showers probable Thursday through Saturday. Would you hunt both Tuesday and Wednesday morning if possible, or just Wednesday? I’m near bedding in a funnel to food and don’t want to wear out my welcome. Peak rut here is Nov 30
I really enjoy your videos, have learned a lot about hunting the rut. It has allowed me to see a lot more good Bucks during all parts of the rut. I Have a account on the Huntwise app, made it a couple years ago, but never used it. But I have been trying to use it this year, but I can’t get Logged in. Not sure if you can help me with this. But any help will be appreciated. Keep putting out those videos
Hi Jeff great Chanel 👍 we had great success with soybeans this year grew 5'+ . However they are starting to turn yellow, can I broadcast winter Rye into them now since they are finishing up at this time of year?
8 days after either the last moon in October. if season starts nov 1. or 8 days after 1st full moon in November. if the place hasn't been hunted. if early enough would be your best hunt days. they go to day walking. and especially if it's cold. they will be both on a feeding frenzy, and a mating frenzy. it's magic to watch from a bow stand
Had a huge 8 come within 25 yards of me sitting on the ground last night in osseo,wi , not sure if he smell me or see me but he was looking my direction. Hopefully he comes back tonight
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 any tips? I've been gun hunting 24 years but only stated bow hunting last year and I've never done scent control, so it's all new to me. I've never has a buck like that, that close to me and now I know why lol. But it's a east wind again today so hopefully he comes back
Been seeing some Young bucks chasing for about a week last night I had a good two and a half year old eight point put on a show. I've never heard a buck grunt as much as he was grunting chasing a group of does around. I'm in Central kentucky about 30 mi south of Lexington hunt about a 300 acre cattle farm currently running about 40 head of cows on it so cows are fairly easy to avoid not a fan of hunting around the cows but sometimes the deer don't seem to mind other times they avoid them. I think next week first week in November rather is going to be crazy in this area. I'm retired so I can go anytime I need to go if the wind's right and the temp's right I'll be out there. I've killed several good bucks on Halloween.
The rut doesn't change. What does is the opening dates. It evolves based on where Saturday fall versus when the rut starts. Sometimes it hits during the early rut. Sometimes late. If it falls second Saturday of November, looking ahead, November of 2025, it shifts to November the 8th that year versus November 13th like this year. Huge change in deer activity over that week.
I love your videos, and I trying to learn as much as I can from them. But I live in NH, and I hunt big wood's in the mid-part of the state. Which is part of the White Mt. National forest. And it's definitely not easy hunting, or easy to pattern them. But every year I scout it? I'm learning more and more. So it's definitely a work in progress.
October Lull just hit here in ohio, I tried my best to sit only the best days with the correct wind and hunt smart, the Lull still hit, I dont think it comes down to human exposure in the woods as much as it does deer are just tired from pre rut pushing around and expending alot of energy.
any tips on getting bucks to come out during the day? I see most of my bucks at night. anything I can do to bring them out in the day? hunting south GA

Love the videos jeff. Lots of great info. I never comment until now but been following you for 3 years now. Do you video your hunts. I would like to see the video of venti if so that would be phenomenal
Here in NC, our gun season is the Monday of Thanksgiving week, and I have always believed the rut had already been here and gone, by that time.we have bear season here and it closes the weekend before Thanksgiving week, so you would be lucky that the deer you have found the dogs hadn't been through there and hunters. Unless you are hunting out towards Boone NC or somewhere else.
The thing to remember is what creates rain. Cold air meeting warm air usually. So bucks aren't worried about freshening up after the rain, they're up moving because the rain passed and it's cold suddenly.
I’m new to bow hunting been watching alot of your videos was wondering I’m in mid west Ohio I have a lot of small bucks in my woods and a few mature bucks I got a picture the other night of a really big mature buck I’ve never seen what are the chances he will be back through out the season

Had my first sit last night where I didn’t see any deer.I did see a good buck with a doe in the beans on the way home.Right stand, right time now..
Very true about the scrapes not being scratched up every time . Bucks love hitting the branch though .
I love watching your videos, its a huge learning experience,
I hunt in SE MN, I was in the stand Friday morning at 5 am, at 8:45 I had 5 doe's come wondering by, heading to there bedding area. I left my stand at 10am and started heading back to the farm. after walking about 250 yards away from my stand, I seen one of the bucks I am targeting, with 2 other smaller bucks. Shouldn't they be out of there bachelor groups?? I figured the target buck would be more focused, on the females
Thank you take the time to educate all your viewers, I don't miss a one thank again.
im a second year hunter and i got my first deer on the 20th this year using some of youre tips. thank you
This video is timeless. Thanks Jeff
Jeff, 10/22, I saw 9 different bucks. There was a doe that must have gone into heat early. Thanks for letting know not to hunt too much to burn out stands.
Sorry I missed this video I WAS OUT HUNTING Oct 24 morning the buck was chasing, around 9am. I hunt in SE MN also. The sight and sounds was great.
Listened to the latest video on the drive to the woods...now watching the latest video from a tree. Going to be a great Texas bow hunt🙂
Good luck with the buck!
And I like that...FL is a rut wildcard 😊
In central NY I've had scrapes for over a week now
Yes, for sure...right in the middle of pre rut timing 😊
My area of Louisiana the rut starts late December early January
Been out here in Iowa the last couple days. Saw my first big buck walking after does yesterday morning. Got a couple trees injected with tordon using my hand saw. Ordered 20 late dropping apple trees from Century Farms for April. Bring on the rut!
I’m in Wayne county North Carolina so when is the rut for us .
Glad I missed rather than injuring him, hoping yo get another shot at him
@@anonymous-zx1oq I almost did man, I was so upset with myself
I feel your pain. Same thing happened to me Friday on some public land. Persevere and we'll get one!
I know the feeling. Keep in the fight. I blew a shot at a big six point and thought my day was done, sat up against a log all dejected and had a huge 10 point sneak in behind me. Doe caught me turning and blew and I screwed the pooch on him too! Promptly never forgave myself.
Hello from Eastern Ontario,Canada.
Keep the videos coming!!
Love your videos AWSOME advice helps me out where to put my stands and when to be into the woods great videos Jeff 👍
Man I hope you get him Greg!! The pre rut has started, for certain...
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 any tips? I've been gun hunting 24 years but only stated bow hunting last year and I've never done scent control, so it's all new to me. I've never has a buck like that, that close to me and now I know why lol. But it's a east wind again today so hopefully he comes back
I thought you said driving around your property with ATV's will spook out the big bucks in past videos?
Yes...for sure, when hunting.
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 but you are out filing water holes towards the end of October? Won't that mess with your big bucks?
These videos are always right on time! Great job Jeff and Dylan.
I’m hoping to go out this weekend for my first hunt ever. Got a nice cross bow ready to go
The rut doesn't change.
I like to hear you talk about western NC thoughts on the app mountains timing ruts!!?
Got a big 8 point Wednesday chasing a doe here in PA
That's awesome...it has begun!!
Do some of the older does try to be in the area of the mature bucks to be bred? Nice information as usual! Thanks!
Thank you!
No, I find mature does have very small home ranges...about a fraction of what a mature buck has. They are home bodies....
What about Washington state? The rut around the same time frame? It’s nov 22nd here
October Lull just hit here in ohio, I tried my best to sit only the best days with the correct wind and hunt smart, the Lull still hit, I dont think it comes down to human exposure in the woods as much as it does deer are just tired from pre rut pushing around and expending alot of energy.
any tips on getting bucks to come out during the day? I see most of my bucks at night. anything I can do to bring them out in the day? hunting south GA
It’s gonna be a good one GOODLUCK and have a great deer season and thank you for your info.
Can you make a video about after you miss a target buck or doe, what's the thoughts on how that deer might react after they get spooked
Jeff I know your big into Sitka gear. I know your super busy but if you get a min I'd like for you to recommend what Sitka gear would best fit a pa WINTER hunter I'm really interested in Sitka but not sure what I'm looking for
Love the videos jeff.
I know this has nothing to do with the rut, except do I want inferior bucks to breed and what do you cull if anything?
Thanks Jeff for your thoughts on this subject 👍
I’m new to bow hunting been watching alot of your videos was wondering I’m in mid west Ohio I have a lot of small bucks in my woods and a few mature bucks I got a picture the other night of a really big mature buck I’ve never seen what are the chances he will be back through out the season
When would you say Harrison county Ohio’s rut starts? It’s like a south eastern Ohio just north of 70
Trying to stay off of small property that I hunt the weather looks great Wednesday with a rare Eastwind I scored a 6. Point 2 weeks ago same wind can't wait
I agree for most part but hunting big bucks also requires some good ole fashioned luck awarded by attendance. I love the mindset in general but you also gotta put some time in on stand to take advantage of opportunity. Love all the vids tho
My ny rut vacation is November 13th till the 20th so I guess I missed the rut or at least the first phase
You will catch a bit of the take end, but miss the majority of it. The week before is by far the best bet...also the last weekend of October.
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 thanks jeff unfortunately I couldn’t get off that week prior thanks for the response. I will keep posted on how to hunt that phase of the rut I’ll keep watching your vids good luck rest of season and stay well .
What do you think about alberta and rut dates ?
What about her in East Tennessee right on the border of NorthCarolina, what would be some good advice when to hunt and when the rut starts, all the old timers say the week of Thanksgiving. Would love to here your opinion. All your water hole and hanging grape vine advice has worked for me to get 🦌 in.
Went out the last 2 nights hunt cast said 100% seen does and little bucks hoping tonight is better but I am sticking to sitting in a different place every hunt
Great RUclips seeing movement Denny! Always have to have a mature buck close to see him even on a good day.
Would I able to find that study from the upper peninsula? I live in north west Michigan be cool to look at. Bucks are on the move up here past 2 days I work swing shifts so I'm seeing alot of deer movement changes different times of the day and idk how many bucks I've seen running behind does on the Rd my cameras have exploded too.
Jeff if the moon has no effect, why is it on the hunt wise app? No disrespect I ask to know if it effects the percentages given for any given day.
It's thrown in there for feeding determinations of Kate morning if a full moon. That's it...
We of course won't give the values of the algorithm 😊
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 thanks for the reply Jeff, I'm anxious to sit over my new waterhole and "youtube whitetail habitat solutions" designed kill plot it worked last year on a mature buck, I only have 6 acres and my neighbor hunts almost daily on 40 acres(same spot) so I'll need some luck, Happy Hunting!!!
Any tips for southern hunters? Georgia and S.Carolina. Or a good resource or RUclips Channel to follow. Appreciate the help and the great videos. Keep them coming. I’ll be in the woods in couple weeks, hunting the weather and optimizing my vacation time.
