Good stuff Coach, have experimented with getting the BST to take outside zone or reach steps to arc release. It enables the read (BSDE) to widen with the reach, bigger cutback lane for the RB.
+W Bumpers Coach, thanks for taking time out of your day to watch my video. It means a lot to me. Do got tag your inside zone to tell your tackle to arc release or is that how you taught it? Because that's an amazing idea.
Coach McKie I will leave it up to the tackle to arc normal or reach steps arc. I only like doing it vs a really good DE who reads the block on the OL well. So it's mainly from film study on when we would employ the idea. It gives the DE a different look and uses his keys/rules against him a bit.
Coach, Great minds think alike. That is a good change up as well, and we do the same. That helps with minimalizing the things the 3-3 stack can do to mess up the zone read.
on play three the fundamental way of using the 3 3 is the ends bend and get first dive back.. if the defense is coached properly corner has outside leverage safety over number 2 has alley safety/nickle has inside alley and Stacked linebacker trails for cleanup.. coach idea for you change the blocking scheme on this play and go to big on big and have your rt drive the de if the lb runs with your back qb run.. if lb blitz and de runs out like you said you see often you have your tackle riding him anyway.. for me we never see a 33 end follow a back into the flats..
Good stuff as always Coach. Thanks for sharing. Questions: On the last one (push Motion T screen/Q IZ) what if the DE stays in the box and the LB goes with motion? I imagine you coach the tackle to block the DE? Also: when you have the tackle block out and you read the 4i/4... have you had any difficulty with that being too quick of a read if he attacks the mesh? Thanks Coach
Hey Coach, That last play is something I keep in my back pocket until I notice what they are doing. If we run a passing concept that has the back running a flare, and I see the DE run with him, then I know to call the zone with the tailback motion. However, if I see the DE stay and the LB fly out with the back then I will use the tailback motion and tag it with our One Back Power - if the LB stays then the QB throws it to the RB, if the LB flies out with the RB then the QB pump fakes and then runs the ball. We've never had a problem reading the 4i/4. The reason why we went to reading the 4i/4 is because the tackle and a hard time washing the DE down. So we decided to read the 4i instead of banging our head against the wall.
Hey Coach . You said that the FS is the “weakest” link in the chain. I think of that in a different way. He should definitely be the best tackler because he is the alley defender in the stack.
breaking the stack vs trips defeats the purpose of running a 3 3 defense.. when we see teams that do that identify the front as a 4 2 bc all 4 2 blocking schemes work without change... also as a coaching point the end towards trips is now a b gap player.. run qb power or simply qb iso
I agree on why run the 3-3 if you are going to break the stack. But most of our region does it. I'm not complaining though. I didn't have a running quarterback the last two years. So we didn't have QB power or QB Iso. But we will have it in this year, because we have got a running threat. Thanks for the tip.
What software or website are you diagramming on???!!!!! I see others asked and I can’t see the answer.
Looks like the playbook section in Hudl

I'd also base the BSDE and read the BSLB if he's stacked vs the inside zone.

Coach,
Thanks for the tip. I will definitely try that play out during our Spring ball.
Most stack teams love to blitz strong side. I have found counters and misdirection can give them problems
