@@PointlessRewind-PRTemple and Raiders are masterpieces in action adventure filmmaking. Crusade plays it way too safe and is just a boring rehash of Raiders. The setpieces are dull and uninspiring, and the ending with the knight, just total ass.
@@gregmeyer1805 It's not really a rehash though as the main story is about Indy and his father reconnecting and it's hardly playing it safe considering the stakes behind the Grail are taken seriously, and the entire climax is about Indy needing to save his father from dying.
14:00 Elsa was not a weakness though. Meeting Indy began to shake her faith in the Nazi party & Indy still cared for her even though she betrayed him. She’s bad but she’s not evil. That’s one of the best scenes of the movie. If you’ve ever shared love with a woman you’d get it.
I think Elsa was a good character all the way through the Austrian castle. I agree with your interpretation of her maybe softening because she met Indy but for that part to work for me, I wanted them to flesh her out. But they didnt, she just went from evil to crying in a flash. I dont really agree that Indy loved her...i think he was attracted to her and slept with her and probably had feelings for her but love is probably a strong word for someone he spent like 2 days with. But I do agree that he had enough feelings for her that he would try to save her. I just think that if they fleshed her out more, it would have meant more for me. Thanks for watching and the comment!
Brody still has his share of badass moments, like telling Donovan he'd rather spit in his face and that he's meddling with powers he can't comprehend. He's also helping Indy & his dad fight the Nazis during the tank fight and he's very serious during the climax when Henry's been shot. The brief times we see him in Raiders, it's within the university setting, so I can buy that he's not really this badass adventurer when pushed out of his comfort zone. Also, if you watch the behind-the-scenes making-of documentary of Last Crusade, actor Denholm Eliot said he loved playing Brody's comical scenes. If he was cool with it and pulls off the comedy bits, then I can accept this side of the character being shown.
Those moments though just feel like lines in a script versus major character beats. After Venice he just feels like a cartoon. I agree that we dont see enough of him in Raiders but he seems competent enough when dealing with the Government. In Crusade he seems frazzled from just asking Donovan "how will we recognize Dr. Schneider". I'm not surprised that Denholm Elliott enjoyed playing Brody like that, it is a fun performance! Just not my cup of tea. Thanks for watching!
I was 12 when The Last Crusade came out and I watched it on video disc from the ‘80s. It was my favorite by far back then. It’s great to see someone who shares my sentiments on RUclips these days. Thank you! Whenever I start Crusade I think to myself "this is the time im gonna like it more than Raiders" but i havent got there yet. Still a phenomenal movie
Hahaha I might get some hate for what I'm about to say. I despised Crystal Skull for the longest time and i still think thr last hour of that movie is utter garbage. But I think the first half is actually enjoyable. Now Dial of Destiny....that DOES not feel like an Indy movie
@@PointlessRewind-PR hmmm just been watching some early game play, might be a case of waiting for it to go on sale i think . looks good but fighting mechanic doesnt look so hot
@daveglo100 yeah I dont think the gameplay looks so hot but the vibes I get from the story trailers and Troy Bakers Harrison Ford impression are selling me. Its a game that I would suffer through gameplay issues just to experience the story.
I also have a conundrum with Raiders and Last Crusade. Every film has a pattern in the way that things happen; 1. The film usually starts with an adventure that has little to do with the rest of the film, 2. Indy teaches 3. Adventure begins with a red line on the map 4. Shenanigans 5. Ultimate confrontation for the treasure with villain. 6. Said villain gets killed as a result from the treasure 7. All is well, Raiders theme plays. No matter what film you watch, and despite how you may feel for some of them, this list of 7 things always happens. Nothing wrong with a repeat formula, but it works in a way that it does for a few other franchises. Raiders had this shocking ending that worked because the entire film had been playing it safe with the action, save for a splatter of blood on the plane. But then it hits you with laser beams, ghosts, and bodies dissolving. No other film in the franchise gave me a shocking ending until Dial of Destiny when everyone went back way farther in time than they wanted to. Last Crusade had the closest relationship Indy could ever have in an adventure companion; his own dad. I think the way I can describe How I can never choose between Raiders or Crusaders is akin to choosing Asylum and Knight in the Batman Arkham games. Asylum was the classic that grabbed your attention, and Arkham Knight brought it into full circle.
Thats a pretty good comparison to the Arkham series though for me, in both I prefer the original. Crusade has more emotion but it feels slightly less impactful to me than Raiders in which the action and adventure felt more visceral. Agree that these movies rarely have shocking endings but I feel like I was too young to be shocked by Raiders ending. All my memories of movies as a kid are "wow that was awesome!" Thanks for watching!
Raiders is the more technically superior film but Last Crusade has a more solid emotional core. It's funnier when it tries to be, the Nazis are more menacing and the father son relationship works much better than the romance in Raiders.
Yeah that's basically how I feel about it, though I think Crusade takes a bit too long to get to that emotional core. The first 45 minutes are good but feel a tiny bit empty which is a big reason why I like Raiders more.
I don't think we can definitively say which film is better between Raiders and Crusade, as it really comes down to personal preference more than anything. With that being said, I prefer Crusade.
well duuuh it's the best, it got Sean "the OG Giga Chad" Connery in it, and it's the absolute perfect ending to the TRILOGY of indie movies. that being said, the other two are also awesome and i recommand everyone watch the 3 movies in orders so they only get better and better.
Hahaha I almost agree! Aside from Indy himself, Spielberg's direction, and John Williams score, I think Connery is the single best element in these movies. But I do think the first 45 minutes feel kinda generic so I have Raiders on top.
@@PointlessRewind-PR well for all the sh!t it has taken back then, i feel like temple of doom is better than raider. it's not the same, more pulpy and what not, but much funnier to watch especially as a kid.
While I love the trilogy, and even the 4th film to some extent, over time I think The Last Crusade might my favorite, like I remember watching Indy marathons and this was the one I enjoyed the most, everything comes together in this film, I think it adds a lot to develop Indy's character more than in the other films, starting with the prologue with River Phoenix. Also, the spiritual elements in this film is what makes it up for me, even when I was still a catholic, "that's the cup of a carpenter" really gave me chills, because I would believe the Cup of Christ to be simple without all the gold.
@@jesustovar2549 thats really cool about how that ending works on a more spiritual level. Makes me appreciate how movies mean different things for different people. I love what they do with Indy's character development in Crusade but its all in terms of his relationship with his dad. Connery is amazing but I think Indy himself is slightly less interesting than he was in Raiders and Temple for me. I cant explain it very well (hence why it wasnt in the video) but I thought Raiders, Temple, and even Crystal Skull found ways to film Harrison Ford and frame him in these perfect "hero" shots that made him seem larger than life. I think Crusade kinda forgets that aspect at times and it makes Indy feel more like a regular dude.
I've said for a long time that, raiders of the lost ark is the greatest action/adventure movie of all time... Yet, somehow, last crusade is better... How this phenomenon is possible, I do not know... But I know it to be true...
So I still think Raiders is better but I think Crusade is probably just more fun. Theres more character dynamics at play and I find the last 20 min of Crusade superior to the end of Raiders (everything after the romance scene until the face melting scene feels a bit less interesting). Thanks for watching!
Temple of Doom is so much fun but tonally feels like a different genre. This weird mix of super dark stuff with screwball comedy. I love it but its definitely an odd one.
Short answer: Yes Long answer: Absolutely Capped off a great Trilogy... that's all it will ever be cinematically... 3 movies... the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles also count as do the Comics...😊
It was the perfect cap off to the trilogy with an unforgettable final shot! I'm hoping the new video game can count soon...been reading some great reviews. ( I do have a soft spot for the first hour of Crystal Skull but the second half is an absolute trainwreck). Thanks for watching!
That's a good point about the atmosphere. I'm not a huge fan of the prologue but I think it sets that vibe up very well. Plus the quest for the grail itself just feels more fleshed out. Thanks for watching!
@@mynameismudd3134 that's a good description of Crusade though i still enjoy it quite a bit. For me, its watered down but spiked with a strong shot of alcohol in the form of Sean Connery.
It was a great video! I have to respectfully disagree on the lazy / safe direction they went with it. It's "sister movie" would be Die hard 3, with how everything was pretty much resolved with no plotholes at the end. The 90s was one heck of an era for Hollywood - that said, you can tell that it has this aesthetic when at the time this came out, with the technology of its time and the culture that everyone was going though - It wouldn't be considered to be lazy nor safe. That's all brother! 😀
Always happy to disagree, I think it leads to the best discussions! I'm ok with how Crusade ends with everything wrapped up, I think the feeling of it being safe and lazy comes with how similar it is to Raiders. With Die Hard 3, I actually think they took a big swing because its a substantially different movie from the first two! The final 20 minutes though are pretty disappointing for me because I feel like that movie's novelty runs out of steam. And my complaints are admittedly nitpicky, I just love to overanalyze my favorite movies from my childhood. Glad you brought up Die Hard because its a series I plan on tackling soon!
@@jesustovar2549 hahaha just watched it last Monday and if I hadnt already started my Crystal Skull video, I mighta pivoted to Die Hard. Probably will be moving to Die Hard soon
after watching Temple of Doom restored in 4k with the matte lines fixed, its now equal for me with Raiders. Now the real 4th Indy film for me is The Great Circle.
I think I agree with your rankings when I'm thinking which Indy movie is most fun. But I think I'm more wowed by the craft in Raiders because I think Doom has a weak middle and Crusade feels a bit too similar to Raiders. Thanks for the comment!
@@PointlessRewind-PR I prefer the artifact in Crusade and the third act. The tank is more enjoyable than the truck. The "he chose poorly" moment is more iconic than the melting face. Sean Connery puts it over the edge. McDonald's gave out copies of Indy movies when I was a. kid. Bummed me out when I got Temple. Crazy to think they would give that movie to a 6-year-old! Spielberg trashes the movie now which hurt its legacy. The Retroblasting channel has my favorite analysis of the Indy films.
Yeah I agree about the trail and the third act. I do prefer the facemelt to Donovans death but I prrefer the 3 tests over the climax in Raiders. But I'm not a big fan on the tank scene and while I love Indy in TLC and think theres more depth to his character than in Raiders, theres something intangible about Harrison Ford's performance in the first movie that i prefer.
I was surprised how many people commented on my Last Crusade video that there were only 3 movies in the series. I knew people thought this way (one of my best friends refuses to watch or acknowledge the last 2) but was surprised how many comments I got about this on a DIFFERENT movie
I maasively prefer Last Crusade. I prefer the vibe, the comedy is the best of the franchise and one of the funniest films ever for me, and the film feels like a perfect conclusion to the trilogy and just leaves me so satisfied by the end. The whole grail sequence is far more entertaining than the climax or Raiders for me, and it is also thematically perfect with Indy finally having faith in the mystical, and his dad's arc.
Yeah I think the grain sequence and Connery are its two aspects where it surpassed the other movies. But for me, the non Connery comedy falls flat and the rest of the movie feels a bit stale. Thanks for watching!
Archeology, History, Exploration, Adventure, Spiritual & Religious Artifacts From All Of Human History, The Profiteers & Plunders Whom Try Strive To Obtain & Control.....Always A Story Yet To Be Told.
Love both films! Last Crusade was one of the first movies I watched in the cinema, so it will always have a special place in my heart and mind. And I also think the 3rd act is stronger in LC, so I give it the edge a little bit :)
I love them both as well and yeah, the 3rd act is far superior for me in Crusade. But while the character stuff is generally better in LC, I find it falters more (I hate what they did with Marcus Brody) than Raiders did. Thanks for watching and the comment!
Crusade is basically a remake of Raiders, but worse. It’s a good film, but very safe. Temple of Doom is so much more exiciting direction for the series!
The trilogy is damn near perfect. Yes, Last Crusade is elevated by Connery, but Raiders is the trailblazing classic like Star Wars. Temple of doom is dark and wonderful, like Empire, and Crusade is the clincher like Jedi. Both trilogies are cinematic perfection.
I Consider It A Solid Conclusion For A Trilogy For Harrison. Indiana Should Have Been Treated Like Bond...., New Lead, New Stories & So On....But We Got Aged Indiana.... & That's Not Bad Per Say But We Want A Timeless Hero In His Times.
I sorta agree. I dont think Crystal Skull is a good movie but i think Harrison Ford is great as the character even at 66. Its in Dial of Destiny where I felt his age made it almost uncomfortable to watch the character.
Hahaha I have a weird relationship with Dial. I think its a solid "movie" but absolutely the wrong tone, pacing, and atmosphere for an Indiana Jones movie. It feels so off for what I want out of the series. I think it woulda been a much better sequel to "The Fugitive".
I love TLC and Raiders. And also ToD for a bit. For me TLC is the best because if you look at Raiders and take Indy out of the story, the Nazi’s would locate Marion and get the medaillon. They will find the exact place where the Ark is located. They will bring it to an island, open it up and die.
I love all 3 of them and like the other 2. The issue you mentioned never bothered me because I still think most of it is interesting and exciting. Its biggest weakness is the last 20 minutes after the truck because it literally feels like the story moves independent of Indy but I still prefer it over Crusade. Thanks for watching!
Last Crusade is a crude copy of Raiders. In Raiders Brody and Sallah are real characters. You could imagine Brody when younger going after the Ark himself. Sallah is an expert and a father and a loyal friend. In Last Crusade Brody is a comedy caricature of a bumbling eccentric Englishman. Sallah is a comedy Arab, even the Nazis are robbed of genuine menace. It’s not as racist as Temple of Doom but it’s not a patch on Raiders.
I find Sallah dull in Crusade and Brody just so unfunny (other than the transition from Indy raving about Brody to Brody walking around like a doofus. But thats all about Harrison Fords delivery)
Raiders is best hand down! Crusade added a lot of silly bumbling humor, which watered it down a bit. Plus, Raiders had Indy’s best scene - w/ Belloq (“You wanna talk to God? Let’s go see him together. I’ve got nothing better to do”). Raiders > Crusade
@@edwinmaguillicuddy9069 yeah I'm kinda surprised they went with so much humor in Crusade. I like almost all of the Connery stuff but most of the other humor in the movie is a bit off
@ I’m pretty sure they wanted to lighten up Crusade after the Temple of Doom fiasco. The problem was most the humor was too forced, which made it over the top to me imo. But all three are classics - the next two? Nahhh
I found Connery a bit annoying in this movie, but even that and everything else was a step up from Willie's endless shouting and the excesses of Doom. Nevertheless, I probably would choose Crystal Skull over this one - but that might be based on expectations: I had higher expectations for Crusade and the addition of 007, and low expectations for Skull based on the horrendous reviews. Thus, thanks for your take on this installment, and looking forward to the next!
While I love Connery here, I can see why some might find him annoying but wanted to ask what specifically you didnt like? Ive started to warm up to Crystal Skull. I hated it when it came out for certain very specific things but now I realize those specific things were preventing me from enjoying a fun movie! Also part if the magic of the original trilogy is I would watch and rewatch them so much that I memorized everything. I would go years between rewatching Crystal Skull so in the last few months, ive tried to watch it multiple times to get more familiar with it and that helps the movie as well. Thanks for watching!
@PointlessRewind-PR Connery! Obviously his performance here was what the script called for, and I've liked him elsewhere (check out Outland if you haven't seen it, I'm not sure why it's less known). In this case, I think that I found the father-son dynamic annoying. Interestingly, I just read that Spielberg was working out his own unresolved issues with his father with this movie. Good on him, but I don't know that a psychotherapy undertone works for me with an Indy movie - that's more for indie films 😀. Nevertheless, it's been a decade or three since I've seen this one, so it definitely warrants a revisit!
Yeah thats interesting because the father son interactions are something I enjoy in this movie but when I was younger I just saw it as just jokey banter. I think the movie wisely doesnt make it too heavy or important. When you were anticipating Bond being in TLC, were you hoping Indy's dad was more action-centric? I never thought about that but that could have been interesting! And oNe thing I liked about Crystal Skull is how it switches the dynamic around with Indy and Mutt....at least for the first half of the movie. The second half is too many "wink wink" lines referencing TLC.
"The Last Crusade" is definitely not my favorite in the series for me. "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is my favorite, and I am not even sure I like "The Last Crusade" better than "The Temple of Doom". Aside from Indy's father and Elsie's betrayal I think there is too much lazy writing for me with "The Last Crusade", at least "the Temple of Doom" is more original. But I love "the Raiders of the Lost Ark" it's a shame that I have not seen another movie like it, with the same quality.
I love all of the indy movies. My favourite though has to be Raiders of the lost ark. Why ? It's the first time that we meet Indiana Jones. With out the success of Raiders there would have not been a further 4 movies. Last Crusade was great because we had the Nazis and a biblical artifact with the Holy Grail.
Yeah and I actually think I like how in Raiders, there isnt that much depth to Indys character. Hes fully formed but he is what he is without much in the way of baggage and I think Raiders works all the better for it.
@ well honestly it’s probably because I was born in 83 so obviously didn’t see raiders in theaters. But I remember to this day seeing the last crusade in theaters and that probably adds a lot of nostalgia. On my birthday like 4 years ago it was playing in theaters so I went to see it again. Still on of my favorite movies. I love Sean Connery being in the movie and the dynamic between Indy and his dad and also just the mystery he’s trying to solve dealing with the crusades is a big interest of mine. I think it has the funniest scenes in the series too. Again a lot of them involving the dynamic between him and his dad. It’s also I believe a perfect or what should’ve been a perfect ending to the series
I totally get the dynamic between Indy and his father. If im just thinking about individual scenes, like 3 of their scenes of banter are like top 5 scenes in the series. But i find the first 45 minutes kinda lifeless. Like its fun but it feels like its waiting for that jolt of energy. With that said, I have a huge soft spot for Crusade in that my parents banned me from watching Indiana Jones till I turned 9 when Mola Ram ripped the guys heart out in Temple. They still let me record TLC on VHS beforehand and so i remember my 9th birthday fondly because i woke up and IMMEDIATELY ran to the tv to watch it!
The Last Crusade is my favorite. Probably because it was the only one i saw in the theater. I was two, when the first movie came out. I saw, Temple Of Doom, a bunch of times from a TV recording on VHS.
Man it woulda been great to see these in the theaters! Im a bit younger than you, watched Raiders a bunch of times on VHS recorded on ABC, and then watched Temple of Doom on tv once...then my parents said after the heart ripping out scene that I couldnt watch Indiana Jones till I turned 9. Which sucked because I was 7ish when I recorded Last Crusade. The wait for 1.5 years till the day I turned 9 was excruciating but loved that birthday!
Did you just claim that Last Crusade is the most action packed one in the series???? Raider's and Temple of Doom surpass Last Crusade by a galaxy when it comes to the set pieces and action. Everyone says how great the tank chase scene is, and it's alright, but the truck chase in Raider's or the minecart chase in Doom are way more intense and have the grit that Last Crusade lacks. Last Crusade undercuts every single violent action with a joke. Raider's and Doom have humor, but it's more subtle. To me Raider's is a perfect film, the slower ending is justified after having set pieces (Escape from the well of souls, flying wing fight with the giant mechanic and the truck chase). Temple of Doom has the bridge cutting scene which is one of the most iconic Indiana Jones scenes in my opinion. I will grant you that the Holy Grail is probably the best relic from the trilogy. I do enjoy Last Crusade as a fun movie, but to me it's actually the weakest in terms of action and set pieces from the original trilogy. I don't want nor care about Indy as a character. I just want generic action hero to go on adventures.
I did but maybe i wasnt clear in the video, I dont think the action is up to the level of ToD or Raiders. Last Crusade has "more" individual action set pieces than Raiders or Temple which is what I mean by action-packed but I think they are a bit stale. The tank chase is good but isnt close to the truck scene or the minecart chase which i mention in the video.
@@PointlessRewind-PR Yeah fair, I wrote my comment before the entire video finished which might have been a mistake lol I think Last Crusade just gets hyped up way too much for what it is honestly.

I’ve never been big on Last Crusade. The film takes just a little too much from Raiders but becomes even more preachy, even if Sean Connery is good in it. I don’t think Donovan has much depth to him ultimately, and he doesn’t stand out as much. Im also very tired of everyone saying the franchise must automatically end with the cheesy sunset shot, mainly because I actually liked Crystal Skull more for trying unique ideas.

Crystal Skull made me want to walk out of the theater (I still regret not doing so). I found nothing redeemable about that movie. Last Crusade is absolutely my favorite, though. The dynamic between Ford and Connery was magic in a bottle.
Raiders is my favorite, followed by Crusade. Temple's batshit crazyness though makes it the most fun though. And I used to hate Crystal Skull but now I enjoy the first hour. The second hour is trash.
No, it's not. It has a sour ending with Indy on the steps not knowing where the artifact is located and the warehouse scene is just "meh". Our heroes in that movie simply do.... NOTHING at the crescendo of the film while being tied up on a poll while all the villains just get wrecked. Last Crusade has a "complete" story and ending. A "feel good" absolute send off that the first film does not deliver on. Further, the first film has some pacing issues. I'm going to assume you're a GEN X or BOOMER in alignment with your sentiment because that being your first time seeing Indiana.
I think Raiders is much better despite Crusade having a stronger 3rd act. With that said I dont see why Raiders "sour" ending is bad. In terms of final shots I much prefer the warehouse over the slightly over sentimental "riding off into the sunset" shot.
@ it’s bad. The fact that Marcus and Indy are upset for not being told of the location of the Ark is just a farce. The movie is so good and just wanes after they “survive” on the pole. Even as a kid, I was like “really?!”.
@Jerry11011 that stuff never specifically bothered me, as someone who has worked for the federal government, Marcus and Indy being pissed at government bureaucracy and shenanigans felt relatable. What always bothered me about Raiders is how the movie loses steam after the truck scene. The love scene feels like its gonna be the break between two major setpieces....but everything after the love scene feels a bit underwhelming for me until we get back to DC.
Raiders was a classic with very serious moments mixed in with limited comedy in the right spots…….unlike Crusades. Also, as it was shown in Raiders……God isn’t anyone’s servant….much less Nazis😂

@@PointlessRewind-PR Yes, the plot is almost the same thing as Raiders, the acting is atrocious, especially Alison Doody. Ford seems like he doesn't even want to be there, the action sequences are dull, John Williams score is boring as heck, the dialogue is awful ("Giddy as a schoolboy, really?), the humor is beyond juvenile (there are literally Mickey Mouse jokes in it), the prologue was beyond contrived, but I could give all that a pass if it wasn't so boring.

But I do agree that he had enough feelings for her that he would try to save her. I just think that if they fleshed her out more, it would have meant more for me.
Thanks for watching and the comment!
@ solid counter. I’m not saying they were IN love, but rather intense affection. Love your channel though, quality work 👍
Brody still has his share of badass moments, like telling Donovan he'd rather spit in his face and that he's meddling with powers he can't comprehend.
What did you find?
Me: “Illumination.”
I was 12 when The Last Crusade came out and I watched it on video disc from the ‘80s. It was my favorite by far back then. It’s great to see someone who shares my sentiments on RUclips these days. Great review and commentary! Keep up the good work and looking forward to more videos! Maybe Tomb Raider is in the future?!
@@joystickjunkietoat "illumination" might be the greatest compliment a video gets!

Great review, buddy. I go back and forth on Raiders and Crusade for #1. It used to be Crusade, then for many years it was Raiders, and for the last couple years I've gravitated been to Crusade.
Thank you! Whenever I start Crusade I think to myself "this is the time im gonna like it more than Raiders" but i havent got there yet. Still a phenomenal movie
im just glad we can all agree there are only 3 films... Its Raiders for me
Hahaha I might get some hate for what I'm about to say. I despised Crystal Skull for the longest time and i still think thr last hour of that movie is utter garbage. But I think the first half is actually enjoyable.
Now Dial of Destiny....that DOES not feel like an Indy movie
@@PointlessRewind-PR you looking forward to the new game? great circle or something... from what i've seen it looks pretty good
Cant wait but unfortunately I'm on PS5 so i gotta wait till Spring. Just read the review on IGN and it sounds amazing!
I also have a conundrum with Raiders and Last Crusade. Every film has a pattern in the way that things happen;
1. The film usually starts with an adventure that has little to do with the rest of the film,
2. Indy teaches
3. Adventure begins with a red line on the map
4. Shenanigans
5. Ultimate confrontation for the treasure with villain.
6. Said villain gets killed as a result from the treasure
All my memories of movies as a kid are "wow that was awesome!"
Thanks for watching!
YES
Raiders is the more technically superior film but Last Crusade has a more solid emotional core. It's funnier when it tries to be, the Nazis are more menacing and the father son relationship works much better than the romance in Raiders.
Yeah that's basically how I feel about it, though I think Crusade takes a bit too long to get to that emotional core. The first 45 minutes are good but feel a tiny bit empty which is a big reason why I like Raiders more.
Yes
I don't think we can definitively say which film is better between Raiders and Crusade, as it really comes down to personal preference more than anything. With that being said, I prefer Crusade.
Yeah I definitely agree...i prefer Raiders but there are plenty of reasons to feel Crusade is better.
Thanks for the comment!
well duuuh it's the best, it got Sean "the OG Giga Chad" Connery in it, and it's the absolute perfect ending to the TRILOGY of indie movies.
that being said, the other two are also awesome and i recommand everyone watch the 3 movies in orders so they only get better and better.
@@slckb0y65 oh I still think in many ways ToD is the funniest and funnest movie in the series. ToD is batshit crazy
New sub thanks brother!
Thank you for the sub, appreciate it!
I agree. Last crusade feels more refined than raiders. Temple of doom is too weird.
Temple of Doom is so much fun but tonally feels like a different genre. This weird mix of super dark stuff with screwball comedy. I love it but its definitely an odd one.
It can be either for me. However, the chemistry between Ford and Connery really makes that movie to me
Yeah they are incredible together. I actually woulda preferred them cut out 1 or 2 action scenes just to watch them banter.

Capped off a great Trilogy...
that's all it will ever be cinematically... 3 movies...
the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles also count as do the Comics...😊
It was the perfect cap off to the trilogy with an unforgettable final shot! I'm hoping the new video game can count soon...been reading some great reviews. ( I do have a soft spot for the first hour of Crystal Skull but the second half is an absolute trainwreck).

It's my favorite one. It's has such an adventurous atmosphere.
That's a good point about the atmosphere. I'm not a huge fan of the prologue but I think it sets that vibe up very well. Plus the quest for the grail itself just feels more fleshed out.

TLC was a watered down version of Raiders. Temple of doom was the best by far.
@@mynameismudd3134 that's a good description of Crusade though i still enjoy it quite a bit. For me, its watered down but spiked with a strong shot of alcohol in the form of Sean Connery.
You would agree with Tarantino's take on TLC. There's a video essay from Film Speak about why Temple of Doom is the best.
No raiders is.better
Yeah I agree
It’s my favorite for sure
Glad you brought up Die Hard because its a series I plan on tackling soon!

after watching Temple of Doom restored in 4k with the matte lines fixed, its now equal for me with Raiders. Now the real 4th Indy film for me is The Great Circle.

@@PointlessRewind-PR its damn good and Game of the Year for me.

And I remmember McDonalds doing that promotion as well! And I'll check out Retroblasting
@ his Dial of Destiny analysis is the best.
Yrs it is. I had no idea there was even a debate.

Crusade is basically a remake of Raiders, but worse. It’s a good film, but very safe. Temple of Doom is so much more exiciting direction for the series!
I agree...only reason I dont have Temple above Crusade is that I think its not very well paced.
RAIDERS 1 LAST CRUSADE 2 then after that you NUMBER THEM
@@THEBEARDEDTOOLGUY
I have Raiders, Crusade, Temple, Skull, Dual. But I think for my enjoyment, Crusade and Temple are basically tied.
It is damn near perfect. I find flaws in all of them but that doesnt change the fact that watching them is always a perfect experience.
Me: 0:22 to the part he said that “The last crusade is raiders of the lost ark jr.”
😃 Yep...that is how the movie has always felt to me. Not a bad thing but a step below.
I love all 3 films but last crusade is my favorite movie of all time…
Dont fault anyone for that, its not mine but it is such a fun nostalgic trip
All three are great. Crystal Skull is just fine and can be rewatched. But number 5 can’t remember what it’s called 😂😂 does not exist.
The Concept & Storytelling Of Indiana Needs & Should Be Treated In Particular Ways....., Shot On Film, Utilizing Handmade VFX, A New Lead..., ETC.
Agree with most of this but you want a new lead in the part?
I wouldn't say better, it's decent
Yeah I prefer Raiders over it. Sometimes I wonder if Crusades polish makes it better but it always feels like its lacking something.
I respectfully disagree, last crusade is the best as it gets, there are no weaknesses. It’s just as good as raiders, to me.
I dont fault anyone for preferring either movie to the other, I think they both do certain things better than the other. Thanks for watching!
Yes. Yes it is better
Yeah you echo my feelings on Last Crusade. So many people like it more than Raiders but for me its lacking that spark
@@PointlessRewind-PR Yep. Last Crusade is good, but Raiders for me is definitely better.
Yes it is… probably by far for me
What is it that makes you like it much more than the others? I prefer Raiders and between Temple and Crusade, it really depends on how I'm feeling.
@ wow that’s cool
And also my final conclusion is that Raiders is the better movie...i find Last Crusade slightly hollowm
@@PointlessRewind-PR Yeah fair, I wrote my comment before the entire video finished which might have been a mistake lol I think Last Crusade just gets hyped up way too much for what it is honestly.

I think its closer...like Raiders by a kilometer but I agree. Crusade mimics Raiders so much but doesnt have the magic

Nope. Raiders film is the best.
What do you think pushes Raiders over the top? For me its that Last Crusade just has this safe and generic feel to it
No, it's not.
Yeah i think Raiders had the right amount of humor. Crusade has some excellent humor when it stays character based but it becomes a farce when it comes to Marcus Brody.

Helping out your time management skills is a feather in my cap
No , raiders is the best , it’s a tie between last and temple .
I hate short round , I hate jones senior.
Raiders had everything, Karen Allen is sooooo good .
Respect the opinion but wondering why u hate Shorty and especially Henry Jones Sr.?
Raiders didn't have everything. Ending was "meh" with Indiana not knowing the location of the artifact at the conclusion of everything they went through.
@Jerry11011 I agree the ending is meh in that I think the entire third act after the truck chase never really picks back up. But I do love the warehouse scene
Raiders of the Lost Ark is the best Indy film without a shadow of a doubt. Temple is 2nd and Crusade is last which isn't a bad thing for one of the greatest films ever made. People that pose the question that Crusade is the best film in the trilogy are simple attention seekers that didn't live thru the 1980s.
I agree that Raiders is better, but my best friend, my dad, and my wife all like Crusade more. I think its a legit view for that movie to be considered better.
Your summation is utterly incorrect
No.
I agree
