I lived there when on April 9, 1948, the Bogotazo broke out, sparking a ten-year revolution (La Violencia) that took an estimated 400,000 lives. I have original photos and write ups. It brings back wonderful, and scary, memories. Glad it is such a great city now.
Harsh Malaiya Yes it is, but be careful with any purses, leaving stuff in the car and don’t ever let any children by themself, there are many people who rob.
Bogota is such a cultural and authentic metropolis. There's really few videos that focus more on the city itself than cliche things to do. There's nothing like walking La Septima from Plaza de Bolivar all the way to the 100th street or Usaquen, there is where you really see the might of Colombia's capital. Going to Centrico and having a beer with the Centro Internacional's skyscrapers in front of you is insane, or watching the city light up from the Colpatria tower on a weekend day. Visiting a rock bar in Chapinero by the Lourdes church and going clubbing to Theatron in Chapigay by the Hippies park, then going on a Sunday to Park Simon Bolivar or just exploring around Ciudad Salitre and looking at the city's skyline with the mountains on the background from Gran estacion mall's terrace. Bogota is an insane very underrated city.
Yessss I recommend going to Mount Monserrate it took me 2 hours to climb and it was a great experience, you loose weight. And at the top you can buy foods like, hot chocolate, arepas , chorizo, and many others delicious breakfasts. And there is a church.but bring a jacket since it’s really cold at the top.
During your time in Bogota, you should have taken some days to visit some towns like Zipaquira, Villa de Leyva, Raquira, Tibasosa, Mongui and the Tota Lagoon. All those places are within 1 to 3 hours from Bogotá and are worth visiting... specially because they are not yet that known for international travellers.
Bogota is beautiful as always and a wonderful city to enjoy and very cultural with alot of things to do .....its a recomended destination for sure... greetings from Bogota
Sure we did miss more place - we only spend about 2 days exploring the city and needed the other 2 to rest, go shopping (not to interesting for a video), get a haircut and to party ;) Anyway I think it could be useful as a rough guide to start out with and add some more sights/tours yourself. If you have more recommendations it'd be great if you could put them into the comments for future visitors!
Once I will visit this country.I am amazed.I love Colombia and spanish language too.I am sure in live all will be much more interesting .in this life there is always so much to be seen
Also, despite being almost on the equator, due to its high elevation Bogota has the climate of London. It rarely gets above 20 C. A friend of mine from Bogota who moved to Canada complained about the *heat* here in the summer! It was amusing coming from someone who grew up a few day's drive from the steaming hot jungles of the Amazon.
Right now, the weather in Bogota is 17 C and will go down to 9 tonight. And it rains a lot. The weather generally ranges between 20 C during the day and 10 C at night all year. London is actually warmer in the summer.
Yes, it rarely goes above 20. That's accurate. AND it rarely goes below 10, so what? It's going to be 22 there tomorrow. I'm two degrees off. In Canada, a few degrees difference day-to-day is barely noticeable. Not when we have huge annual swings from 30 C to -30 C.
Ha! Yes my wife is from Bogota. We live in south west England. My wife's family have visited us here in July and also December. They found July too hot and December too cold.

Bogotá is well-known as Colombia's capital city - located at around 2,640 metres (8,660 feet) above sea level, it's not only one of the highest capitals in the world, but also has an urban population of nearly 10 million spilling across the Andes mountains and the savannah.
I am going to Colombia for the first time in November with my husband. I am excited to see Bogota but every Colombian I talk to tells me I won't enjoy it as much as I think I will and I can't firgure out why! (My in laws are from Manazales.) I think it looks beautiful!!
Some colombians abroad mostly the ones that were forced to immigrate decades ago due to violence and poverty still have a very bad thought of their own country. Although the conditions aren't the best yet. The country has changed a lot in the latest years and allows tourists and even locals to enjoy traveling the most of it and have a great time there. And from my point of view the most of tourist fall in love with colombia when they visit it.
Conngrats on the video but it felt way too short. No offense guys but , you missed out on so much. In Bogota and not visiting the El Museo del Oro ( The Gold Museum) is a sin.
It's cute that Steve's pronunciation of Spanish words sound so authentic...until he comes to conquistador. Thanks for another beautiful view of Colombia. (There; I spelled it right this time.)
Virrey hotel is old, noisy, and broken down. Try Hotel Estellar Windsor House near Parque 93. It is an ALL suites hotel. $55/night including an incredible buffet breakfast. It is not Andres Carne de Res. That one is the original in Chia. The one in Bogota is Andres DC. DC means De Corazon. Of the heart.
If you want to pronounce Bogota correctly, don't put the strength on "GO" but "TA". Everyone who speaks English pronounce boGOta, it's actually bogoTA! Try saying the first two syllables with the same strength, and then scream loud the last one: "TA". That's how it is pronounced.

Nice video. Sadly a common mistake is made. There never existed a country called Gran Colombia, never. There was a bigger country composed of Nueva Granada (which included Panama), Venezuela, Ecuador and parts of Peru and Brazil. This country which existed between 1819 and 1830 was called República de Colombia.
"The term Gran Colombia is used historiographically to distinguish it from the current Republic of Colombia,[2] which is also the official name of the former state."
Really? Have you even read it? This article is based on 19 different sources...moreover I took part in several historical tours in Bogota where I learned about it as well.
BackPacker Steve I not only read Wikipedia and I have donated to support it. I did read the article. Your video is nice and generous with the country. Thank you for that. Sources confirming the Gran Colombia name are simply from ignorant people. There is no legal or historically rigorous document that talks about the Gran Colombia Nation, which never existed. The Constitution of Cucuta and the Angostura Congress both refer to the Republic of Colombia.
I love how this city is in such a beautiful valley! Colombia is definitely on my places to go list.

I have always had a bit of a thing about Bogota so I am watching your videos on Colombian cities with great interest.
Hey Guys, I am from Bogota-Colombia, and I am so happy to see this kind of videos, Bogotá is a beautiful place to live.
Hi Myriam. I am Indian and relatively new to Colombia and it's tourism. Is it safe and sound to travel the country apart from it's capital?
