- 1. One World Trade Center
Also known as the Freedom Tower, 1 WTC is the main building of the rebuilt World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan, It is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, and the sixth-tallest in the world. The supertall structure has the same name as the North Tower of the original World Trade Center, which was completely destroyed in September 11, 2001. The new skyscraper stands on the northwest corner of the 16-acre World Trade Center site.
2. Willis Tower
Built as and still commonly referred to as Sears Tower, is a 108-story skyscraper in Chicago, Illinois. At completion in 1973, it surpassed the World Trade Center towers in New York to become the tallest building in the world, a title it held for nearly 25 years. More than one million people visit its observation deck each year, making it one of Chicago's most popular tourist destinations.
3. 432 Park Avenue
The building is a supertall residential skyscraper in Manhattan. The structure topped out at 1,396 ft. It was developed by CIM Group and features 104 condominium apartments. Construction began in 2012 and was completed on December 23, 2015. The building has been much maligned by many city residents who find it an eyesore and believe it represents New York's increasing cost of living and ostentatious wealth.
4. Trump International Hotel & Tower
Also known as Trump Tower, is a skyscraper condo-hotel in downtown Chicago, Illinois. The building, named after real estate developer Donald Trump, was designed by architect Adrian Smith of Skidmore. Bovis Lend Lease built the 98-story structure, which reaches a height of 1,389 ft including its spire, its roof topping out at 1,170 ft. It is next to the main branch of the Chicago River, with a view of the entry to Lake Michigan beyond a series of bridges over the river.
5. Empire State Building
The Building is an American cultural icon. It is designed in the distinctive Art Deco style and has been named as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers. The building and its street floor interior are designated landmarks of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, and confirmed by the New York City Board of Estimate. It was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1986. In 2007, it was ranked number one on the AIA's List of America's Favorite Architecture.
6. Bank of America Tower
This building at One Bryant Park is a 1,200 ft skyscraper in the Midtown area of Manhattan. The US$1 billion project was designed by COOKFOX Architects, and advertised to be one of the most efficient and ecologically friendly buildings in the world. It is the fourth tallest building in New York City. Construction was completed in 2009. The building's Urban Garden Room at 43rd Street and 6th Avenue is open to the public.
7. Aon Center
Formerly Amoco Building is a modern supertall skyscraper in the Chicago Loop, Illinois, designed by architect firms Edward Durell Stone and The Perkins and Will partnership, and completed in 1974 as the Standard Oil Building. With 83 floors and a height of 1,136 ft, it is the third tallest building in Chicago, surpassed in height by the Willis Tower and the Trump International Hotel and Tower.
8. John Hancock Center
It was constructed under the supervision of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. When the building topped out on May 6, 1968, it was the second tallest building in the world and the tallest outside of New York City. When measured to the top of its antenna masts, it stands at 1,506 ft. The building is home to offices and restaurants, as well as about 700 condominiums, and contains the third highest residence in the world, after the Trump Tower in Chicago and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
9. Wilshire Grand Center
It is the tallest building in Los Angeles and is also the tallest building in the U.S. outside of New York City and Chicago. Its height surpasses the U.S. Bank Tower by 81 ft. The building will be part of a mixed-use hotel, retail, observation decks, shopping malls and office complex, expected to revitalize downtown Los Angeles and the area surrounding the building. The development of the complex is estimated to cost $1 billion.
10. 3 World Trade Center
Also known as 175 Greenwich Street, is a skyscraper under construction as part of the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan, New York City. The project lies on the east side of Greenwich Street, across the street from the previous location of the Twin Towers, which were destroyed during the September 11 attacks in 2001. The building will have a height of 1,079 ft tall with 80 stories. As of August 2016, the building's concrete core is topped out to maximum height, with the perimeter steel structure topped out on October 6, 2016. The building is slated to be completed in 2018.

For all those uneducated people making this whole thing about Chicago Vs. New York... for roof height, the Willis Tower (Sears Tower), is the highest at 442.14 meters, while the Trade Center is at 417.0 meters. The original spire for the Trade Center was to be "Only" architecturally, however, after the building was deemed the tallest building in the U.S., antennas were added to the spire to add additional income. This would exclude the spire as height, however, due to the significance of the tower, the powers the be let it stand. Currently 4 tower are taller than the Sears Tower due to a spire... One last note, the Sears Tower also features the highest observation deck at 412.7 meters where the Trade Center is at 386.6 meters.
I'm with ya. The spires shouldn't count. And if they do then the antennae of the Sears Tower should be included too. And thanks for not calling it the Willis Tower. No true Chicagoan would!

PRHILL9696 I've seen you everywhere, but I still agree, Chicago is the greatest city in the US. It is definitely the most beautiful because it has the most diverse architecture on the planet. I mean, take a boat down the Chicago River and you'll see a supertall modern skyscraper like the Trump International Hotel and Tower, and then right next to it, you have the old fashioned Wrigley Building. This definitely makes for an awesome skyline. It's as if you took one building from every city on Earth. We had the first skyscraper (we had 5 by the time NYC had its first one, so we had a bigger skyline than NYC at one point), we had the first ferris wheel, we had the first hot dog, the first car race, and the Chicago River is the only river on Earth to flow backwards. We are most interesting city in the US

Chicago is incredible! I met a guy from Florida who visited New York with his sister and family and was going to move there as he wanted to live in a big city. Then they all came to Chicago and all 4 of them were blown away by Chicago and now he changed his mind and is moving here instead now. Even his sister is thinking of moving here as well

I'm Irish but I've been to both New York (several times over the years - I even have hazy memories of visiting the original WTC as a kid in the 1990s) and Chicago (once but more recently and it was a multi-day visit) and love both cities. My favourites on the list are the Empire State Building (which is deservedly iconic and very beautiful) and the John Hancock (which I think is far more visually appealing than the Sears/Willis Tower, with it's striking look and is also very impressive inside.)

@@Username-mg7dg If you don't count the WTC's spire and the Sears Tower's antennas, the Sears Tower is taller. The Sears Tower has more floors. The Sears Tower's antennas don't count, they never have but they let the WTC's spire count because of the 9/11 sympathy which I think is still unfair.

Yeah, it sticks out a bit but they're planning to make more tall buildings like it in the area so I think it'll look better after a while. I just wish they had put something at the top to make it look better. It being so thin makes me worry how safe it is though.

The north tower of the former WTC towers the antenna didn't count for the height if it did it would've been 1747 feet tall antennas don't count on height spires does count so no 1 WTC is #1 it's pretty obvious

The Aon Center resembled the Twin Towers quite a bit. Actually the same construction method for the Twin Towers was also used for the Aon Center. When it was completed it was the tallest building in Chicago for a year until the Sears Tower took that title away and also the Twin Towers' title as the tallest building in the world. The Sears Tower held the record for the tallest in the world for 24 years, not bad. One WTC now holds the record for the tallest building in America but only because they count the antennas which they didn't before. If the antennas didn't count the Sears Tower would still be the tallest in America. The Sears Tower still holds the record for the tallest building in Chicago and the tallest building in the world made out of steel.

This was 2016. I think NYC got a few more on this list now, or at least ones that are under construction. I think NYC is getting the world's tallest residential tower in a few years.

If you’re counting by where the floors stop, the Willis tower (sears tower) is the tallest. But the one world trade canter has that gay ass point on the top to make it technically taller.

Aon building looks like the World Trade Center from 2001
Actually, the same construction method used for the Twin Towers was used for the Aon Center. It's not as tall as the Twin Towers were. Right now the Sears(Willis) Tower and the John Hancock building are the only 2 buildings in Chicago with observation decks open to the public but Aon Center is currently having a public observation deck made too, including a glass elevator to the top. It will be completed next year.
