    I sold my two Foxbodies about three years ago for $7500. A white 5.0L 5sp. notch and a black 5.0L 5sp. hatch. Both cars were nice drivers with some engine/suspension work. The most fun hobby cars I ever owned, and I've owned quite a few different makes and models.
    I've been without a hobby car for the first time in over 30 years since I sold them. I plan on retiring within the next 5 years and will be in the market for an 87-90 notchback 5.0L 5 sp.
    Absolutely love these cars. Relatively cheap go-fast parts, huge aftermarket support, and easy to work on. There are other cars I really like, but the Fox Mustang just scratches my itch the best.

    I had the same color as you did in my 83 .Bought it in 96 .With T Tops it didn't take a whole lot of arm twisting .2 hours later I was on my east driving across Canada .3 days and 3000 miles later I was home.I still miss the old girl once in a while.

    Hey Rich!...Bro. Dave here! Nice Review of the Fox Body Mustangs! I use to own Fords other Fox Body, an 85 Mercury Capri RS 5.0 in Dark Red Metallic with the lower Gray Cladding, Front Spoiler and Fog Lamps in lower Front Spoiler! The previous owner I bought it from took off the Bubble Glass Rear Hatch and replaced with an 85 Mustang Rear Hatchback and added the 85 SVO mustang Dual Rear Spoiler! The Interior was in Gray with Red Piping Trim on the Sports Seats, that too is a Rare Car today!...God Bless!

    I dont know why people have such a hard time accepting these cars as classics. An 87 now is 31 years old. How old are they going to have to be before they lose the stigma of being a 2k dollar p.o.s.? Hell, you dont even really see that many IROC's anymore. I guess you had to grow up in that era to really have given a shit. In the late 80's and early 90's fox mustangs were practically unbeatable as far as off the lot cars were concerned. IROC Z's were about it as far as anything that would have been considered a contender.
    I guess its just the build quality and the boxy nature of the cars that came out of that era that puts people to sleep. I'm 48 and that was my era and I have fond memories of it so they will always be cool and a classic to me. If you grew up in the 60's and 70's then you had some really good memories and some killer hot-rods but foxes were our hot-rods.

      @@johndef5075 Relative to the cars of that era they were pretty much in line with what was being produced. The coupes are popular now but back in the day, a gt with the bigger wing and ground effects we're more popular. I was less than pleased with the downsizing that the 80's brought. Blame all that on the new government mandates in gas mileage standards.

    That white 1987 GT is gorgeous! I vividly remember when the '87 GT models hit the streets back in the '80s. I always thought the white GT with red stripe was stunning! The 1985-86 GT will forever be my favorites though, followed by the '93 SVT Cobra then SSP models I think.

      I have to say I never cared for the 87-89 GT set up all that much , the turbine wheels, rear taillight treatment , "areo" effects. I prefer the early 4 eyed fox look Hard not to agree on the 93 Cobra, SSP and 85-6 some of that generations best~ !

  • @jpp9846
    @jpp9846 5 лет назад +9

    Here's the thing about the Fox, you can buy a nice one for $7-9k, put a little bit of maintenance money in it, drive it and sell it for at least that (possibly more), a few years later. Try selling a new Mustang for what you paid for it, a few years later....won't happen. The "classic" status has arrived for these cars. Every GenXer remembers them. The nice ones that are garage queens, will only become more valuable. There is certainly a following on them.

      @@Anth230 I don't know...I "wish" I could get my hands on a 67-68 Fastback, but the Boomers have driven the price of that car, so far up, I can't obtain one...right now. I can afford the Mustang I grew up with, which is the Fox body. It definitely holds a value to me. The fox was "the" car to have when I was in Junior High-High School. But, I have always wanted a 67-68 fastback. So I think the fox will be a future collector to my generation (GenX)...much like the fastback is to the Boomer. I don't foresee the fox getting $$$ like the fastback tho...But I could be wrong. I could already make about $1500 over what I paid for mine, 2 years ago. Time will tell.

    Oh man, I was predicting this about 3-4 years ago, that values of Third Generation Mustangs were ready to explode! In the past, if somebody had one in "wrapper" condition, it would usually sell for around 14-18 thousand, rarely ever 20 thousand, unless it was a '93 Cobra.

    The 87 and up EFI cars seem to be more popular. I’d be happy to find a plain 79-82 hatchback without rust, T-tops or a 2.3. I had two 5.0 Pace Cars from 87-91.

    That '79 Cobra is not completely original as the rear spoiler was not available that year except on the Pace Car.

      They brought a premium because they are so low mileage,original and the Barrett factor of course. It's hard to compare real world prices against an insulated sale . mossow71 This had a big impact, the average fox body guy is a certain type. This made even bigger egos and almost instantly a $3000 fox became a $6500 fox. The low mile original cars have a reason to bring good money, the limited production ones even more. A (insert year) manual notch or GT with 130,000 miles, Flowmasters, K&N and shorties that ticks and "only smokes when you start it" isn't a $5000 car, no matter what they saw on Barrett Jackson.

      I worked at Carlisle Ford back in 92-93 and it wasnt very often that a triple black gt came in on the carrier. I do remember a guy that would come by that did gold leaf and would plate the emblems in gold on the white and black gt verts.....lol. Ahh, the glory days of fox's.

      @tedddy edwards i live in Northeast Indiana and i bought a 88 GT hatchback from original owner who was in his 70's when i bought it. It had been baby and garage kept since 88. I was only caught once in the rain and never driven in snow. Only things wrong is a small dent and the classic clear coat peeling. They are out there and hard to find but worth over paying a bit when found.

    • @davebrittain9216
      @davebrittain9216 6 лет назад

      Well actually I do know. I sat with my son last night who is an investment counselor and we were looking at the returns on this Mustang investment and it is not very good. For instance in one of my real estate investments I had a return average of 29% per year over a 3 year period. The investment of these Mustangs is in the range of 5%. Inflation is around 2% per year so a 5% investment is close to nothing and I am sure there was cost to store these cars and to insure them and maintain them. By the way I have had near 10 mustangs and have a 68 coupe now. On my last mustang I sold my increase was in the range of 82%. Maybe it is you that does not have a clue!

    • @MustangConnection1
      @MustangConnection1  6 лет назад +1

      Dave,
      Not to jump in but how in the world do you know what his returns are ? You have no idea what his initial investment was or how long he kept the cars. So how can you determine what his rate of return was ? In some cases his returns were likely 100% or higher if you annualized it. It is likely he scooped all of these up in the 6 to 10 months leading up to the auction based on his success from last years auction.

    • @davebrittain9216
