This is the trail that started my offroad journey, that turned into an overlanding journey, that turned into a RUclips channel. It's one of those trails you can do over and over because it changes a bit each year. For many reasons we'll definitely be back to Boulder Basin soon. If you liked this video give our Blake Lake vid a watch, it's one of my favorite parts of Idaho: ruclips.net/video/qebrudVrLiE/видео.html
I have been wanting to see a trail in Idaho, thank you for putting this together! I had a feeling the trails there would be beautiful and they obviously are.
@@Venture2Roam Oh good, looks like I will be doing some mild stalking on your channel. Especially if there are some locations to squeeze in some fly fishing.
What an awesome trip. That YJ at 15:00 was sick! But you know me and my squares. Great video! One day... One day I'll get to your side of the world... and I'm not turning around.
Love the content! I grew up in Coeur d Alene, Idaho. Your videos out in the Idaho mountains make me miss home all the more! I'm actually going to try to get up there this summer for the first time in over 20 years...man time flies... get my overland setup some proper use!
I have a stock YJ and STRUGGLED on this road this summer. After winching up the “Washout” and many other features, you guys did a phenomenal job of documenting not only the hardships but the overall beauty.
Great video Will. The rocky trails up Boulder Basin looks like tons of fun but sometimes you’ll have to make the right decision for the group. The cocktail made by Elsia and BBQ by Chris was the icing on the cake on this video though👌🏽
When it comes to $$$ rigs…everyone has their own level of comfort, and I’d never want to put someone in a position where they resented me because of damage done. So…..we’ll just have to go back….darn it…
@@Venture2Roam Yeah for sure but with Lance having the bronco now, might be good to go back again this year or if you wait again later this year, I can join you guys 😅
What a great adventure!!!! I love the motto go as a group leave as a group with no regrets and just having fun on the trail....plus a great cliff hanger can't wait to see your next adventure back there, such a beautiful place!!!
Looks like such an awesome trail. Not gonna lie, that spot you guys turned around looked like a lot of fun but I totally get why people would have chosen to pass that up. Great video!
I agree, it's a fun obstacle..but to each their own. I'd never want my friends to resent me for pushing to hard if they damaged their rig. We'll be back though. I'm not happy that I didn't get to film the rest of the trail.
Square Headlights Matter. Awesome to see you comment on this. Your group nailed that obstacle. Made me a little envious I wasn’t in a Jeep convoy at that moment!!!
I really enjoy your videos. You have the best narration of any RUclips overlander. The Sawtooths are probably my favorite place out west. I've been there 3 different times. Dying to get back out west and hoping in summer of 2024. Would love to meet up!
Another great video & story! Have to say my favorite area in ID is the Sawtooths. We used to go to Stanley lake each winter just to hear the sounds & groans coming from the ice.
Cool to see this, I just spent some time right in that area. Was down that way for the Tour De Force in our campervan. Didn't get to off-road, but that has become my new favorite area and will be visiting it often. Hopefully soon I'll have my LR3 done and will be adventuring with it.
As a Colorado trail runner and just finding your video off chance, great job! I just subscribed and will hopefully make up that way here soon. Thank you for sharing this incredible adventure!

Agree. That obstacle is actually a lot of fun, there are more once you get past it...but nothing that puts you as off camber as that one. The views at the top are worth it!
This was quite cool. That second campsite was sweet! Beauty spot. ... and I'm really curious about that trailer you showed. I like THAT one. I would have carried on, would live to give that a go. But I would have had to turn around as well. Looked cool though
That Jump and Jack trailer is pretty cool. I think the trailer could have made it up, but Ryan was worried about using a ball hitch on that trail, which I concur with...need an off-road hitch to take something up there.
The hardest part of watching this video is not hopping in my jeep and going out and doing a trail just like this right now. Wintertime is in full swing and I need Summer to come so I can start enjoying majestic peaks all around me.
It’s gotta be the right group though! I enjoy both types of trips (Just fam vs group). We’re experimenting with a two Jeep set up right now…so far so good.
I have not read through the other comments, but I am sure that we all agree that the true measure of success may not be reaching the top, but returning home with limited damage. Another great video, filled with stunning views, wonderful camaraderie and loads of adventure.
I agree. No one wants to rescue a rig up there...and the good news was, there are plenty of incredibly beautiful places to go that are very close to that trail...so while I was not happy I didn't get to film the rest of the trail...it was a pretty great consolation prize to camp near the Sawtooths. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment!!
A good skids plates , rock slider that sticks out far enough and 35's, 4Runner should be able to do, Tundra is question as no rear locker so it will need to winch.
You are spot on. A runner could do it on 33s to (we had a Taco on 33s go up no problem). Tundra needs good bumpers, under carriage protection...and probably a winch, but they could do it I think.
Those shell roads are deceptively tricky. I’ve lost footing more than once trying to traverse one in my jeep. There’s a few here in Utah, that I generally avoid, despite it being such an amazing view, it just makes me nervous.
I like that overland bound statement of It doesn't matter what you drive, but it does matter where you drive it. Some people like Jeeps... I have nothing against them, my daughters barbie drives a really nice pink one.
Yep, this was in August of last year. I was trying to piece together the story of Lance...so I just waited to make the video until everything happened with him :)
I saw the new gen with Rob from Revere last summer. We did 1,000+ miles together and I was impressed with that truck. A Tundra could do this trail, you just need armor and maybe a winch.
Which part are you referring to? There are a couple of forks. If you mean the fork right before the washout obstacle...they are both different each year I think. The rocks are super loose...so they look worse than they actually are to drive...they kind of give way to your tires. The left fork is tricky because you have to make an abrupt left turn right before the obstacle, which can be a mess if not done right.
It's a very common reaction to that obstacle..but it's definitely passable for most rigs. I think full sized trucks can make it too..with a little armor underneath. But there's nothing wrong with knowing your limit...we still had an amazing time.
FYI, talked to my sister in law in Mt Home today. The 2 of us will now be trying this trail ourselves in June. BTW, we blamed it all on you with my wife when she asked why during the skype call. If you see a mad redhead on your street, RUN!!!
